  1. Saltwater catfish have venom in their barbs that can hurt a lot. A solution is to rub the slime of the fish onto the wound, which makes it hurt less. I can vouch for that solution, it really does work. Freshwater catfish do not have venom in their spines, but they can give you a good puncture. They have powerful jaws so i dont advise lipping them (I do lip them, but im also stupid). Just be careful and you will be fine.

Well I've already started on my marine bio track. Eckerd college is unique in that you can start on your major from the beginning, there is no core requirement you have to get out of the way. It isnt an easy major by any means, but I'm going to stick with it no matter what. Being so close to the water does take some discipline , but I have gotten used to it. There is a dock on a seawall where I have caught some sweet fish. My biggest fish so far was a disapointment, but still a helluva catch; a 4 foot wide, 6 foot long stingray that took 2 hours to land. I have hooked a few tarpon (none landed yet), and have caught some nice grouper, the biggest bieng a 10 pound gag. I also have 4 cobia under my belt, each about 3 feet long. As I said, I will put some pics on the "other species" forum.

Let me just start by saying good job to Glenn and the mods for keeping BassResource.com on top from what I can see. Some of you may have noticed my absence from the forum, and I'm glad to see some familiar screenames and many new ones. In august I started my marine biology studies at eckerd college in st petersburg florida. The school is right on the water of tampa bay, so i have been able to fish whenever I want. Long story short, since im 200 yards from the ocean, I have not been able to do any decent bass fishing. When I got my bass pro shops catalog today, I realized that I had totally abandoned my family here at BassResource.com. Anyway, its great to be back, and I will be posting some great stories and pictures in the other species section soon!
  5. So, back on topic, just hang in there and make it to college. Like indianakid said, COLLEGE is much more fun than HS. I am on week 6 or so of freshman year and I am having a blast! That also explains why i havent been around the forums much.

I started college 11 days ago and i must say... its awesome! I'm at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg Florida. The school is right on the water of boca ciega bay, so I can fish whenever i want, but no bass unfortunately. I agree with what the others have said, it was hard to keep focused the first few days, but just remember that you are there to learn first then to have fun.
  7. This email actually shows up about once or twice a year, and is not true, sorry guys...
  8. what size weight do you use, if any?
  9. Some time I want to try a twizzlers pull n peel (not the regular 1 piece) as a spinnerbait skirt. They have always reminded my of big game trolling lures when stripped halfway. As for the topic, here is a fun one from a few weeks ago. I think the wierdest "lure" was a pike on a green condom. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1181098129/30
  10. I am sort of the other way around. I have ADHD too, but I like bass fishing because I can actively reel in lures and change location. Just try to find a type of fishing that intrests him for whatever reason and enjoy the time together, even if it is not your favorite type of fishing.
  11. I have had some close calls with bats swooping at my lures on the cast, but they always pull away at the last minute. I have also had one fly so close to my face I felt the beat of it's wings. It was so awesome!
  12. My friend and I were talking on the boat yesterday and the topic came to the best freshwater fighting fish. Now for this to work, we need to be talking about pound for pound, because a big muskie will obviously fight harder than most or the others. Lets set the limit at 5 pounds. So, for a 5 pound fish, which one do you think would fight the hardest. My friend and I were actually leaning towards bluegill. My friend read a book estimating that a 7 pound bluegill would require heavy tackle to land, which would not surprise me. So lets hear it, best (freshwater) fighters anyone?
  13. That was my favorite episode too. I am fishing with a friend tomorrow, so I'l bring some coffee and see what happens...

Check out this UFC clip. The guy wins but conks himself in the process. This is awesome! http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=24033
  15. only 5 pounds so far, but that is due to change very soon!
  16. Fish blood is usually very fast to clot, so that does help them survive a little better. Unless the fish cannot swim away, I will let it go and give it a chance to survive. If I do see it surface soon after, I may keep it depending on the size, otherwise I will let it feed the other animals in the lake.
  17. Yea it sounded like she was reeling against the drap the entire time! Imagine the line twist! It was also funny that they were bickering the entire time...
  18. When I was little I was into pro wrestling, and I found out today that one of my old favorites, Chris Benoit was found dead here in Atlanta. They are thinking murder/suicide, which is a big suprise. Anyone else watch or used to watch pro wrestling? http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=3594146&version=7&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.2.1
  19. Those are amazing Jay! Some are magazine quality, you should enter them in photo contests, especially the otter one
  20. Dude that makes great sense redneck, I never even thought of that. I also like your train of thought BC57. I'm gonna try to remember that
  21. Awesome pic! I love snakes...
  22. When I was little and I heard that talking scared the fish, I decided to test it. I went to both bluegill and bass beds and screamed and hollered at them, with no reactions from the fish. I have also caught plenty of bass while chatting with my friends, even one today while goofing off on a dock.
  23. Use a 4/0 hook (i use a 4/0 gammy ewg) weightless. When retrieved with short jerks it looks like a crayfish scooting backwards (didnt quite believe it until I saw it). Great rig!
  24. Nice bass, but that wiggle rig looks like the "TV" boomerang rig (http://www.renosky.com/boomerang/). Is it pretty much the same?
  25. I have a few pets, my youngest is my 2 1/2 year old chocolate lab, Moose. He is a great dog. At 2 years old he still has that puppy mentality and seeing 75 lbs of bouncing brown dog always gets me laughing. I also have 2 cats, Pogo and Tiger who are brothers. At about 20lbs each, they are each very large kitties. They are 10 years old, and have since adjusted to Moose's reign of the house. While they used to stay on counters and above Moose, they now feel safe sleeping next to him. I also have a small turtle I caught fishing in 2nd grade, and our oldest pet, a cockatiel (a bird) who is 27!
