  1. It seems like everyone is saying that they're good when fished shallow in stained to muddy water. I guess that this is why I've had better luck on a bluegill colored swim jig than a spinnerbait, because my lake has clearer water. It also has a high population of shad, so they're probably focusing on them.
  2. Do you think that you could post a picture of it? I've been looking at different spinnerbaits online and found several different designs for sunfish colors. Some are super natural while some don't look anything like a sunfish. I've been using the Strike King premier pro spinnerbaits which in my opinion is really realistic. It seems like it has a green pumpkin base color though so I'm not sure how it relates to what you said.
  3. I believe that a white braid would look good because it would bring out the white on the Stradic logo. I think that if you used a red braid along with the red spool there would be to much red. The white wouldn't conflict, but it would make the reel's colors pop more.
  4. In what conditions do you guys fish these? I've got some, but I'm not really confident in them. Every time I start to use one I wind up tying on a white or white and chartreuse spinnerbait. I imagine that they would be really good during the spring when the fish are on beds and maybe around grass, but that's all that I can think of.
  5. That's close enough to $100 that I don't mind. I just fish on a 14 year old's budget so micro magic and other rods in that price range are to high. I'll look into them.
  6. Pitching lighter (1/4-3/8) jigs to docks and similar structure has quickly become my favorite technique. I've been fishing this technique on a 7'MH rod, and I've done pretty well with it but I don't think it's ideal. The 7'MH is my all around rod and I'm tired of retying so much. I really want a rod for specifically target pitching. I'd like something shorter than 7' for better accuracy and because I've been known to accidentally hit the water or a dock with the tip. I'd like to keep it a MH with an extra fast or fast action. Also I'm not a fan of micro guides or EVA, but it's not a deal breaker. I've been considering either an All Star Nano 6'8 MH XF Jig Rod or a H20 Xpress Ethos 6'10" MH F . I will mainly fish 1/4-3/8 ounce jigs, beaver style baits with a 3/16-1/4 ounce weight, and senkos. I'm on a budget of a $100 MAX. I could get a Veritas or vendetta, but I've used models that my friends own and I enjoy fishing the Ethos more. The All Star Nano feels like the same rod with a different paint job, and it very well could be since they're both Academy brands now (All Stars are now only available at Academy). I think it's worth the price though. Any other recommendations would be great though, because I'm still open to anything.

  8. Lucky for you. My dad started me out on spin cast reels, and then realized that he didn't have time to go serious bass fishing any more and sold all his stuff and went to back to spin cast reels. Now that I only use bait casters I can't make him switch back.
  9. This is the first time that our school has gotten cancelled because of a white powder and the cops didn't show up.
  10. Are y'all really going to make me recommend the H2O Ethos in another thread? They're great rods for $60. I own three, and I fish them all in tournaments. A lot of guys on this forum really like them, and several members say that they're just as good as the Abu Veritas($100). In my opinion the Veritas are slightly better, but they're just as good as the Abu Vendettas($80). I'd really recommend that you look into them.
  11. It seems like the general consensus is that LP is the way to go. I felt both at school today since my friends have them, and I like the lifeproof more. It's slim and it passed some drop test at shoulder height. I'm with AK though, I can't believe that I'm going to spend so much.
  12. After being left at school on multiple occasions due to practice cancellations, I finally got an iPhone this Christmas. I really like it, but I have come to the realization that my el-cheapo case just won't cut it. It has a slick plastic back which has made me drop it several times, but luckily nothing has happened yet. Now I'm in the market for a new case, and I've been considering either the otterbox or lifeproof case. The otterbox($60) is really impact resistant and cost $20 less than the lifeproof, but it's not waterproof and it's bulky. The lifeproof($80) seems to be impact resistant, waterproof, more ergonomic than the otterbox, and it has an aftermarket lifejacket($35) that you can put over your case to make your phone float, but it's $20 more plus the $35 for the lifejacket. So far the lifeproof seems like the way to go, especially since you can make it float, but I know a lot of people are happy with their otterboxes. So I would like y'all's thoughts on this.
  13. I want to thank everyone for their input. I didn't want to reply until I tried it out. I got some jigs in a pumpkin/watermelon color and some pumpkin trailers. All of the things were small, borderline finesse. I did really well fishing were the creek runs into the lake along riprap with a slow drag followed by a few short hops. Thanks everyone.
  14. I'm a huge fan of the Berkeley power shaky worm, just don't put it on a drop shot lol.
  15. Because the guy who drinks water out of elephant turds knows so much about phones.

    That was awesome.
  17. After a very un-scientific experiment, I found out that their are two different species of crawfish in our lake that are pretty common. The majority of our crawfish are a pumpkinseed color, but the others are a green pumpkin color. The pumpkinseed colored are a little smaller, around 3" and pretty slim. The green-pumpkin colored are about 3.5" and a little bit bulkier. The smaller ones have smaller sized claws, but the larger craws look more like the Yum Crawbugs in shape. I've always fished with green pumpkin or watermelon based lures, because my lake is slightly stained although it's fairly clear (5'-6' visibility). After seeing all of these crawfish that are a much lighter color, I'm thinking that I should be using more pumpkinseed colors. I've always considered that pumpkinseed is an ultra clear water color though. What would you do?
  18. I've been fishing the YoMamas for about a year now, and they've become one of my favorite beaver style soft plastics. The smaller size has always been a proven tatic for more finicky fish. They perform really well on a light Texas rig, shaky head, and as a jig trailer. Well, I'm always looking for something that performs better, so today at Walmart I found some Strike King River Bugs at an awesome price of $2.96. That's a really competitive price point, and even 3 cents cheaper than what I've been paying for the YoMamas which are super cheap any way. They both come in packs of 10, but the YoMamas seem to be easier to find. I bought a pack of River Bugs in green pumpkin to try it out. I didn't realize how small they actually were in the store, but when I got home I realized that they're only 3". The same size as the smaller YoMamas. That's when I compared the two side by side. I realized that they're the exact same size and shape. The YoMamas appear to be made of a softer plastic and use more salt, but I have had durability issues with them in the past. The somewhat stiffer plastic and lower salt content in the River Bugs may fix this problem though, although I'm not really concerned because of the price. I was expecting these soft baits to be similar to the perfect plastics, and was disappointed to find out that they just had a run of the mill feel and scent to them. I'll post some pictures I took comparing the two.
  19. I got the Bass Pro Extreme Qualifier 360 Backpack for Christmas. It has more than enough room. It actually holds 10 360 boxes. It's going to be something else trying to fill it up, but I'll manage.
  20. Talking about looking fantastic, yesterday I finally got my girlfriend into my Tackle Warehouse hoodie.
  21. Whenever I spend a lot of money on something and momma wants to know, I've found a way to get out of trouble. I just go "Now momma I know I shouldn't have...but I bought some (insert tackle here). At least I didn't buy anything like crack." That's when she realizes that I'm in a public high school and I could be spending my money on things that are much worse than a couple live targets. Just be honest, but make sure to draw attention that it's at least not something bad. NOW GIRLFRIENDS ON THE OTHER HAND...
  22. Besides for Spot Removers the only ones I've used are the Big Bite Bait's version that they sell at Academy. I've caught fish on them though.
  23. Am I the only one who thinks that the hoss in your avatar is over 4.8?
  24. Chattanooga,TN (lived here all of my life), Montgomery,AL, and Birmingham,AL. Guess those honors English classes I'm in haven't done much for me.
