For the longest time, I fished only crankbaits and 3" curly tailed grubs in rivers. Throw in an occasional spinnerbait and that was it. For the last week I've been fishing nothing but a jig and the results have been good. Started off this evening throwing a Booyah Baby Boo jig in green pumpkin with a brown trailer. Got a couple of bites before getting it completely and totally hung in a rock. I will say one thing, Hybrid Ultra-Soft #6 and the palomar knot equals something very very hard to break off. Sounded like a 22 rifle when it finally broke at the knot. Tied on the old reliable Strike King Bitsy Jig in black/blue with the Zoom Tiny Chunk in blue. Got bit on the first cast, missed the strike. Threw back to the same area and repeated the retrieve. Stuck this fat pig. Didn't have my scale with me, but it was over a pound. Moved up river and caught 3 more (2 smallies, 1 redeye) alternating between a bottom hopping retrieve, a swim against the current retrieve, and a let it drift with the current retrieve. Missed at least three more, one of those as the jig was on the surface during the last part of the retrieve. Yep, I'm completely and hopelessly jig-verted. I find myself wondering if I'll use anything else this year.

The Cabelas Advanced Anglers rod covers with the PVC section goes all the way to the reel even on 7'6 rods. The PVC section covers any lure you have attached at a keeper. Even helps if you've got a lure hooked to the reel.

Actually you were affected by Dumbo Zumbo's comments. The anti-gun crowd has latched onto his initial statement and have been using it to further their ban. What Zumbo did not realize (and still doesn't) is that the Second Amendment does not have one single thing to do with hunting. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! The Second Amendment is all about protecting the citizens of this nation from government tyranny.

My will power gave out and I went to Cabelas to order one. Get there and they're sold out of the 105H. :'( Somewhat of a blessing and a curse.

All you need are rechargable AA batteries. When I bought my first GPS unit, I went through 8 AA's in less than a week. Naturally, I was pretty PO'ed. Went out and got some rechargable batteries and haven't had a problem since. I use them in everything. GPS, digital cameras, portable depth finder, TV remotes, clocks, etc. You'll pay more for the rechargable batts initially, but the savings in the long run far outweighs that higher investment.

Well, not really having the $$ for it certainly helps. Not needing a smaller reel also helps. But I just hate to pass up good deals. Story of my life. Why oh why did Cabelas have to send that $20 off code to me TODAY of all days? Buying this reel would mean having to buy another rod, so that's another $100 on top of the reel price. Life was so much easier when I just bought Wal Mart tackle... :'(

I handled a Steez rod a couple of days ago at my local tackle shop (very very surprised they had even one as there isn't a big market for high dollar items around here) and was very surprised at the weight. They are nice sticks.

The cast iron cornbread pans? I thought about suggesting that, but you can almost buy an ingot mold for what you'll pay for the cast iron.

While the two listed in the link would work, I would suggest just going with a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40. The two in the link only have a 28 mm objective diameter. If you do go with a 40 mm objective, you will most likely have to use higher rings (or a taller base). Most rimfire rings are not capable of mounting a 40 mm objective. I've got a 4x32 on one of my 10/22's and it does the job, but I often find myself pining for a good variable power scope on it like I have on my other rimfires.

Dave does do good work and his communication is second to none. He'll be getting all of my reels come fall.

Well, I have found that my feet get quite sweaty after 10 hours of work in these things, but I can deal with it. The Islanders (ventilated bottom, leather top) should be ideal for boat fishing. I wouldn't wear them in the river as there's nothing worse than gravel in your shoes.

A G27 or G29 would probably be too big for your canoe. A G24 would probably fit best. They aren't that heavy. You can get an Everstart at Wal Mart for $45. As for a charger, I swear by the Schumacher SC-1200A.

What are you comfortable using? If you can use a 7 footer easily, then by all means use up to that length. If not, experiment with 6'6 and 6' rods and see what works for you.

I saw them for the first time yesterday. No way I'm paying $10 for two jigs.

Good price and shakey jigheads do not go together.

I use 50/12 P-Line Spectrex IV. Why? I want the strongest line possible when dealing with big fish. I don't like using large diameter lines and braid gives good strength with smaller diameter.
