I've fished size 90 Whopper Ploppers with and without swivels. I find the swivel weighs down the nose and causes the WP to submerge unless my rod tip is high.

I bought a Diawa PXY68 a couple years ago and love it. It's on a certain 6'10" ML casting rod and tosses 1/8 oz Rapalas and spinners quite nicely.

MA's definition of an assault rifle includes a pistol grip, which the M1A doesn't have, so it's legal to buy. I'd guess that it's an anti-gun push because 'non-gun' people only know AK/AR platforms as assault weapons used in mass casualty incidents fed by the news media. MA is a very liberal state and has been anti-gun for as long as I remember. I could go on forever on the subject but won't. Brouse through the MA gun laws if you want, it'll blow your mind.

Can't s**k that bad. Springfield Armory's M1-A line is still legal. I'll go with a 7.62 x 51 over 5.56 any day. My Socom16 is the loudest gun I've ever shot.

Can't help you here. Any AR/AK platform rifle is now illegal to buy in Massachusetts.

Drove to Jacobs pond in Norwell after housework was done. Water temp was 67.x and just a breeze from the west. Jacobs was down 2' from Spring, leaving just 2-3' of water for the fish to play in. I started with a Bluegill Whopper Plopper and small yellow perch Rapala Minnow. After two hours and nothing more than a couple small 'pick' 'picks', I packed up and moved over to Luddhams Ford in Hanover. Luddhams' temp was 62.x and calm. Luddham is an extension of the North River. I found the depth between 2 and 5' so I stuck with the Whopper Plopper and my go-to T-rigged Zoom. The Whopper Plopper saved my shut out, netting me 6 little bass and 4 pickerel. None were scale breakers, but good enough for mid October. Picked up an extra shift tomorrow so my plans of getting down to Long Pond for more trout will have to wait for another week. If I get out of work at a good hour, I'll head out to Ponkie or Sunset Lake and enjoy some Indian Summer Fishing. BTW: Gongrats on some awesome fish Mike!

Pflueger, Pfleuger, Pfleuger... I started with a President, progressed to Supremes and Supreme XT's. Now Ihave a Patriarch XT I bought from Cabelas on sale. I own several spinning reels, Abu Garcia and Shimano among them, and I use my Pfluegers 99% of the time.

It's ice over for me Massachusetts. I'm catching bass and trout right now. I might give ice fishing a whirl this winter, just to see if it's worth it.

I'm working tomorrow so it looks like it'll be opening season next time I get to the Quabbin. Lemme throw this out there: let's try to get a half a dozen or so members out there for a meet and fish next Spring when the boats rentals open again.... For now I'll be happy getting out a few more times before it really gets cold.... Weather permitting Fishing Rhino and I are heading out somewhere next Wednesday.

I'm working nights this weekend and the boss, er wife, has me going to a baby shower Sunday.... No vacation/personal time to burn? Worked an OT shift last night so no Quabbin today. If plans open up for tomorrow, might just give it a go. Will know later today. ADD: Launched at Long Pond in Plymouth around 10:30. Long Pond has trout, salmon, Larries, and Smallies, so I figured there'd be high probability for success. I started at the Southern end and pulled a 2-8 Larry out from a sunken tree using a wacky rigged 5" Senko on a 3/16 oz. tungsten jig head. Shortly thereafter I caught a nice *** salmon on a Helsinki Shad colored Clackin' Rap (!?!?!?) at roughly 10-12'. I lost some fishing time talking to a property owner and getting some ice for my cooler (salmon & trout = DINNER), but back at it, unsuccessfully, for a couple more hours until I found a school of trout in about 5' of water. Surprisingly, one of them struck at the Whopper Plopper I was throwing. The school would follow it and break off. I've never seen that before.... I switched to a 1/4 oz. Mepps in-line spinner and straight away nabbed a 1-4 and 1-6. Again the school only followed the spinner, so I switched it out for a different style Mepps, and sure enough, WHACK, a 1-10 hit it straight away. The 1-10 was caught before: it had a braid strand and two mono lines coming out if it's mouth, with a swivel still attached to one. I guess what I've read is true, that fish will survive with hooks in their guts. I took the trout and salmon home for dinner. My boss, err, wife, did a great job cooking them up and dropping them on a kale salad....

Quabbin Reservoir boat rentals stop on 15 October. Anyone interested in closing out the season tomorrow?

Getting it registered is easy as pie. More of a money grab for the state. I was lucky I kept the receipt for my 128T...

I planned to go out today but had to get tires put on my father-in-law's car. I also spent a couple hours driving around with my daughter who's on her learner's permit. I might take Wednesday off and head to Long Pond in Plymouth. Long Pond has Larries, Smallies, Trout, and (I think... never caught one there) Salmon. I have a drift chute but never used it.... though I keep telling myself I'm going to.

MassYak85, will your kayak accept a trolling motor? My 128T does, so when I fish bigger water like Great Herring.

Salty spinnerbait... funny, I live 300 yards from the ocean, almost at the end of a peninsula.

Maybe I can help you with the wind. My Ascend 128T isn't too bad in wind, but my Lure 11.5 is flat bottomed and drifts easily. My solution came from West Marine. I was cruising through West Marine one day looking for a Lowrance transducer when I found a 7 pound claw anchor. I replaced my 5 pound anchor and have had great luck staying put with the 7. My 128T has one anchor trolley, but my Lure has two, so I can switch sides depending on which direction the wind is coming from. I too would love to have a boat, but I live in a city and my driveway just isn't big enough for such a nice toy as a bass boat. Heck, my 4-door Tundra fills half of it.... My daughter also starts college in two years, so buying myself a boat just isn't right.... in due time, however.

It's easy as pie to take a kid fishing. Evan loves fishing and his Dad works a ton of hours. My work schedule is a combination of days & nights so I have the time. Evan's also finishing chemotherapy so the more he's outside the stronger he gets. Now that it's getting colder, I'm going to take him to Houghton's Pond to try for trout.

You're not watching game 2... Sox are down 4-0 in the 4th inning with David, Mr $1,000,000,+ per start, Price on the mound. Sox' bats are missing too.... If the Sox get eliminated, I'd love to see the Cubs win it all.

Beat the banks of BHR three times in the last couple weeks, taking my wife's friend's son; his first time, the third. BHR is cyclical, and seems to be on a down cycle. My two solo trips netted just a couple tiny bass with some small 'pick' 'pick' action from assumed small bass. I switched between wacky Senko, Fishing Rhino's secret weapon, my go-to Zoom, and a couple jointed Rapala's a generally catch something with. Evan and I worked 3/4 the bank over three hours. I landed two tiny bass and poor Evan didn't get anything, even though he threw a few different crank baits and his favorite white spinner bait. Had half a day yesterday and with the weather being so good, I drove to Great Herring in attempt to land some nice Smallies. Launched just after 2:00 and started by 'the red house' where I've done well in the past. After two hours without a bite I moved back towards the launch. I managed two little Smallies on the Eastern inlet between the two points, one on a yellow perch Rapala DT10, the other on my Zoom U-Tail. From there I moved to the West shore and landed a nice Larry next to a dock. With only a half an hour of light left I fished the open area left of the launch and tossed a Blue Gill Whopper Plopper because not much else worked so far. I landed four small Smallies in short order and had a handful of misses along the way. The soft baits I'd had success with in the Summer didn't work, and with the water temps at 66.x, it's time to figure out what Fall baits might work, IF I can get out a couple more times this year.
