Welcome to the forum. I just got back from a vacation in Williamsburg where I got a day to kayak fish Waller Mill Reservoir. Under nearly perfect conditions I couldn't buy a bite. Talking with a couple locals as we packed up our gear I learned that they caught only two small LMB and a bunch of crappie. They believed the fish were on their beds. I too threw Senkos, which usually catch fish.... not that day. Anyhow, you picked the best place to gain information on your new target. Best of luck!

I use a Spiderwire Backpack and two two-piece rods. It holds more than I need, including the rods.

Maybe Brady will get some bass fishing in while suspended .... ?

Took today to fish Waller Mill Reservoir in Williamsburg while on vacation with the family. I launched my Kayak around 7:30-ish under nearly perfect conditions. Water temp was around 65-67 and barometric pressure sat in at 29.8. The reservoir reminded me of Arron Reservoir in Wampatuck State park. I started with a black/blue flake Kreature and jointed smallmouth looking Rapala. I worked points, coves, submerged trees, and the channel for over two hours without a bite. I found a shallow flat on a point with stumps scattered between 4-10' deep. I tossed a 1/2 oz bluegill jig and a 5" bass flavored Hula-Swim Senko for a while, again without so much as a nibble. I moved down another finger and tossed my smallie Rapala in the channel from both shores, again without success. I tried a 4" watermelon/red flake Senko figuring that would get some attention... Nope. I went back to my truck and switched one of my rods to a ML rig with a Ned on it. I went out again looking for some shallows, but by 2:30 I'd not had so much as a bite, I gave up and packed it in. Two locals were loading their boat as I was finishing packing up. They told me they'd caught only two small bass and a half a dozen Crappie. To take the good out of a goose-egg, my new Conc**t E casts like a dream, I reduced the centrifugal brake to 1/6, and my accuracy was spot on. I'll be back in MA this weekend, and plan on fishing Ponkapog. Hope to bag a few good ones.

Don't get down. Keep a log of what you catch, what lure you caught it on, time of day, weather conditions, etc. I take pictures and use the time stamp to remember it correctly. I caught my PB just a month ago in 45 degree water back home and am 0/4 since, including 6 hours at Waller Mill Reservoir in VA under almost perfect conditions. I'm discovering myself that I have the hardest time in Spring when others are 'killing' it. You'll learn patterns that work for you and get a lot better at lure choice and presentation, which will catch you more fish. Good luck, and keep at it.

Yes, Blue Hills Reservoir & the surrounding reservation (MA) is loaded with them. I'm careful about checking myself before I leave there.

I've been lucky enough to get an hour / hour & half at BHR before work the last couple days. I think the bass are on vacation though, because whatever I threw at them, they didn't like. Today's special was a smallmouth flavored jointed, sinking, Rapala that I've done well with. My backup was a black/blue flake Kreature on a 1/8 oz. weighted hook. I'm still waiting for my first Kreature catch, but it resembles the Chigger-craw I caught my 4/11 right here just month ago, so I figured what-the-heck. No harm. The last couple years here started really slow for me. That, and I'm convinced the bass population is very low. BHR is less than 10 years old and I've caught only one perch here. I don't think the food supply is enough to support a big population. I'm off to Williamsburg VA with the family for school vacation. My Ascend 128T is on the ladder rack, ready to go. I'm going to fish Waller Mill Reservoir one day (maybe two IF I can get away with it) in hopes in catching some VA bass.

My M12XC's are rated for 4aH and the little ones 2 aH. I've never used the little ones on the kayak. With the Hummingbird 1100 series drawing 1.3A, yeah, you'd need a much bigger battery, or perhaps a couple LiOn in parallel. Though my Lowrance owner's manual says .75A draw, which, theoretically, is roughly half, but there are many variables to consider: screen type, GPS receiver, processor, etc... Bigger is 'always' better, so I'd go with as big a battery as you can get.
