I'm still not convinced Senkos are the magic bait, agreed, I've only gotten back into fishing seriously in the past year and my first fall/winter and am sort of relearning it because I only did it for fun when a kid. Thanks for the tips. If I get a chance I might get out there & try different things out.

I'll give it to you for still getting out there and trying. I put way my gear when the water got to the low 50's. Makes me want to give it another whirl. Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever wacky rigged a senko and used a bobber to keep it at 4' or so in shallow water? Sounds crazy, but I have to ask.

I'd hop in the truck and head to BPS, then go fishing on the way home….

I have 2 Presidents and really like them. Smooth as silk & cast well with both braid & mono (only line's I've used w/them). The larger ones I believe are a snitch over your $50, but IMO are worth it. Good luck with whatever you get.

This is a great thread! I spent almost twenty years in the high-end car audio industry and have to add that these types of threads are the same as the old argument of what speaker sounds best. It was easy to quantify which electronics were better by design, but speaker quality is 100% subjective, just as rod sensitivity is here. I find my Carbonlite & Veritas are the two most sensitive rods I own. My Fenwick Silver Hawk is a close 3rd, and it was $50. Great kitchen table talk, keep it coming. Add: threads like these also make me want to buy more gear 'to try out' which makes my wife roll her eyes and ask why she married a kid !

Have you considered PVC pipe? Foam inserted at one end with a threaded cap and stepping up to whatever size is needed to enclose your reel if that's what you want to do. Cheap as possible & will protect rod/reel very well in bed. Good luck.

Overall a good year. I've improved greatly with B/C gear and caught my personal best. I had particularly good luck from April to early August, but after that, it got pretty thin. I was shut out after mid September and packed it up for the year a couple of weeks ago. This was the first year using soft baits and must say I did much better with Zoom curly tail worms then Senkos, but I'm not giving up. So many of you report great success with Senkos, so I'll continue different approaches and try to accelerate my curve. T-rigged worms worked for me much better than Wacky, but like my success with Senkos, it's something to improve on. I don't get out as much as I'd like, but work & family responsibilities take precedence, but some is better than none. I've learned much from this forum, for that I thank you all, and look forward to learning much more over the Winter months.

I've never fished there either, I fish @ Blue Hills Reservoir (BHR) when I can. BHR was very good until about mid-August when everything pretty well stopped. I got shut out completely, regardless of what bait I tried, once the weather started to cool, which is expected in small/shallow ponds because they'll cool more quickly. Ski season is nearly here, so I've put fishing aside until next Spring. Happy Holidays.

I have a 6'6" M/F & 6'9" MH/F, both 2-piece for travelling, and find they're the most sensitive rods I own. The next closest is a 7' M/M BPS Carbonlight. All three are very light. My 6'9" is very new, so some more practice is needed in the Spring. I also like the way the Veritas' load up while casting. I can't say they launch the farthest, but they feel the smoothest. Great question. The Blue Hills Reservoir near me, according to the state, was completely drained and repaired in 2008 and isn't stocked. I had a great 1st half fishing it this year. There are LMB, Yellow Perch, Bluegill, and Sunnies there. X2 on the Carbonlight. Add: I'm a huge Pflueger spinning reel fan: I find they're really smooth and cast quite well. I have 2 Presidents & 1 Supreme XT, each a different size. A+ on overall rating IMO. Best of luck with your pick.

I have a BPS ML/F Cranking Stick under a Pro Qualifier. I use it for lighter worms & spinner baits. It casts great but I sometimes question it's hook setting ability against a M/F rod. I've not caught many fish on this rig so it'll have to wait until next season to make a more educated decision....

I throw 4" Senko's Texas rigged with a PQ on a 7' MF Vendetta pretty well. Once I cleaned & reoiled it it got better. I've tried weightless Zoom worms with it and find distance to be fair/decent.

Pro Qualifer probably the best $99 reel out there. I have two of them: they're not quite as smooth as higher priced B/C, but mine cast great and are pretty bullet proof - IMO. Others on this forum will likely agree.

Look up Google maps & you'll find plenty of places to fish heading towards Plymouth. Water temps are in the low 50's if not cooler, so fish S L O W. I'm close to Boston and have been shut out for a month now. I'm starting to think the Fall fish is passed. Good luck if you end up going.

I have a BPS Johnny Morris Carbonlight mated to a BPS JM baitcaster and find it a great combo. The rod feels very light and sensitive. A great value for not a ton of $$$. Good luck with your choice.

Overall I'm feeling that my fishing season is finished since I've been shut out since late September here in Boston, but tomorrow's going to be around 60 degrees so I've not scheduled any work and am going to 'practice' casting for a little while. Perhaps I'll try slowing down. If I'm lucky, I'll get myself down to my cousin's house in South Carolina over the winter... Other than that it'll be working, skiing, and family for until Red Sox Spring training next year... Best of luck to the rest of you.
