Congratulations on your 'yak. I've committed myself to buy one this spring and have had much difficulty in choosing exactly which one I want. I'm only limited, like many, by finances. I have a full size pickup with ladder racks, so transporting is no problem. Like you, I'm still frozen here in Mass., so I've got a few weeks to decide. Be sure to post comments on your first few adventures....

My wife & I worked at the same pharmacy after H/S. We each had a significant other but all hung out as a group but went separate directions as we all got real jobs. Roughly 10 years later we bumped into each other @ Northeastern University, finishing our degrees @ night while working full time. The rest as they say.... ... Here we are, 20 years together, married 15. The 'boss' is from Manila, so most people assume I was in the service, or just got her from a catalog (which I once convinced a guy at a bar I did... But that's a different thread...).

To throw out a guess, I'd say Abu has something new coming at a middle price point between $99 & $149, so the Veritas & Vendettas move down from their current price points to fill in the gaps. For example, St. Croix, a very popular rod in this forum has a few models between $99 & $149, as does BPS and Diawa.

Metro Boston is still very frozen, including ocean inlets in my neighborhood. The 'Sox will be playing Fenway before it's thawed, methinks...

Since I really don't follow the pro circuit at all, I'd have to go with Bill Dance and Roland Martin. It seems like they've been on TV forever.

I'm happy to hear there are still some farmers out there - It gets tiring reading/hearing about America being outsourced. Thank you.

X2 - I just got 3 of my baitcasters back from winter service. Mike repaired, tuned, cleaned them and got them back to me quickly. His prices are more than fair.

I traded in a 25 year old Quantum spinning reel for a new Abu Garcia Revo SX spinning reel last Tuesday. Prior to that a new MacBook Pro.

Guess I can chuck my Core 50mg....... congrats...

Keeping busy this time of year is easy: leave job 1, go to job 2. Get daughter to & from dance or swimming. Cook meal, drop laundry in machines. Repeat. Wife is tax accountant so we pass each other coming & going this time of year. In between I'm trying to finish my MBA before next fiscal year to pick up raise. Also looking to buy a 'yak for Spring.... Look forward to fishing soon. I don't work the day between my night shifts - that's when I rely on Bassresource for ideas & opinions.....

There were a few vendors making their own spoons, jigs, and spinners. I didn't buy anything because nothing really jumped out at me. There was one custom rod vendor that airbrushes the lower part of their own branded rods which look very nice. There are many guides/resorts offering trips & such. A few boats and one lonely kayak.

Just got back from it. It was OK, perhaps I expected more. Saw a couple interesting items.

I have a 6'6" Abu Veritas Med/Fast 2 piece I keep in the back seat of my truck in Summer. It's light & very sensitive. I currently have a Core 50mg on it but am still swapping my different reels to find my favorite combo. For $99 I find it a great rod. BTW - the Pro Qualifier is probably one of the best and most popular reels at its price point. I'm sure many other members would agree. IMO...

A++ Great pictures! Especially since it's 25 degrees out & all the fresh water and half the salt water banks around me.

I did as a kid because that's what everyone who fished did and we were taught not to waste; LMB & Yellow Perch mostly. I've not done it as a parent because my wife & daughter raise a big fuss because they think it's cruel.

Makes sense because CC company charges around 3% to merchants and giving me 1% is incentive to use it more. As long as I don't keep a balance on card it works out for all parties except the retailer.

Catching large fish makes fishing is fun for me, but is better when fishing with friends & my nephews. I suppose fishing with good weather and without interruptions is great. Catching something while trying something new is also right up there at the top... Not getting called into work while you're on a roll.... Not getting a call from the wife saying "WHERE ARE YOU".... Meeting new people while fishing too..... Lookie there, it seems there are many reasons fishing is fun

Have to say that speeding up my Master's program and landing a ton of side-work is keeping me from thinking about not being able to fish right now. With any luck I'll make some time to ski too. Luckily, for those late nights after the family's asleep and at the Firehouse, there's still Bassresource.com

Can't help you here, I have a CC from my mortgage company that gives me 1% back on my principle....

I fished a lot between about 8 - 18 years old (1970's - early '80s), I was lucky there was a pond behind our neighborhood, then, of course, work, girls, & college took over. I picked it up again when my daughter was around 5. She's a teenager now and wants nothing to do with me unless it's a ride to swimming, dance, etc. I take my younger nephews at least a few times a year when they ask/show interest. Otherwise I fish alone or with a college friend to get away from 'it' for a while.
