OK, here are my 'yaks...

Good to hear your 1st trip was good. I've only been out on my Lure once to fish, and my 128T once in the ocean behind my house with my daughter (she drove the Lure) for a little night time spin. When I get out there again to fish, I'll hopefully catch a couple and learn how to post pictures.

It seems to work pretty well. It's made by Vexilar and sells for around $129, or so. It looks like a big green/white bobber that sets its own WIFI signal that your 'smart phone' connects to via Vexilar's app. I use an iPhone 4S and occasionally get connection problems easily solved by restarting the phone. Battery life is decent, and range in plain sight is good. Because it weighs 4 OZ., you'll want a pretty sturdy rod to cast it with.

The couple ponds I've been to so far show low 40's.

I've been out five times this year, each for only an hour or two. I caught one dink LMB @ Blue Hills Reservoir, but am pretty convinced it's been fished out because my Sonar Phone showed only the odd ping here & there, which is supported by comments made by other guys who fish there. I found another small pond (more like a big puddle) where I caught another dink LMB on a Rapala crank bait. My Sonar Phone said the water temp was in the low 40's.

I'm just south of Boston and caught only 1 dink on a Rapala crank bait, which is better than nothing. I've used cranks, jigs, spinner baits, and Senkos so far. I have a castable fish finder & it tells me that the water temp is still in the low 40's. I've seen some small groups @ 10' at one of my regular stops, but not much is moving where I've been so far this year. Hope this helps.

I know about where it is. I hope you meant 100 yards/meters and not years..... that's a really long walk with a Kayak... Thanks, if I can get an afternoon off, I'll try to get out there and check it out.

I just bought a 128T and a Feelfree Lure 11.5. The 128T is a barge, much bigger than the 11.5' and has 3x the storage. I've only been out on both a couple of times. The 128T is more stable and a little slower than the 11.5; heavier too. Even though the 11.5 has a rail setup I think the 128T lends itself to customization better. I'm going to add a fish finder to one, probably the 128T, because of it's large open hull. Overall, I'd have to say the 128T is a great value, especially if you're public safety/military, just 60% of what the Feelfree cost.

The Lure 10 just felt too small, overall. I didn't dare try to stand up while trying it out, though my daughter and I were able to on the 11.5. If you can try them out before you buy, you might feel what I mean,. But like shoes & pickup trucks, it's all personal preference.

Please tell me where you can launch a boat there. I bought a 'yak over the winter and believe (see previous post) Blue Hills Reservoir is void of bass. I'd love to get out there and catch, rather than just practice casting.

Water temps in the high 60's? I have Vexilar's Sonar-Phone, and it showed the surface temp of Blue Hills Reservoir as 41 degrees this morning. I've only caught one little 'dink' up there so far, but the consensus of a few guys that fish there is that it's been fished out & there's nothing left in the water. My little fish finder supports that too, very few pings around the whole place. Best of luck in CT...

Congratulations on your 'Yak! I'm new to 'Yaking myself this season and so far enjoy it very much - a new freedom to explore and fish spots I've only looked at from shore. A++

If you're any taller than 5', the 10' might be too short for you. I bought mine at Billington Sea Kayak and was able to test paddle the different models. My Daughter is 5'5" and found the 11.5 much more comfortable. I'm 6'1" and thought the 10' Lure was like paddling a skateboard. I can lift the 11.5 onto my pickup truck ladder rack myself easily. As far as the seat goes, it's A+ to the point I'm going to try to adapt it to my Ascend 128T, whose seat is pretty comfortable. Enough of hijacking Felix's thread, however, I really like the Lure 11.5 and think it's an excellent Kayak. Good luck with whatever Kayak you end up with.

​Have you picked up your Ride yet? If yes, have you gone out on it yet? I got out on my Lure 11.5 for a little bit last weekend and liked it a lot. It's forcing me to learn to cast a bait caster in new and interesting ways.... good thing I'm good at untangling backlashes. Hope you have fun on your 'yak.

Still waiting for a pic of your new 'Yak! My daughter wants to go with me now so I picked up a Feel Free Lure 11.5 in her favorite color: blue/camo. It felt great paddling around the lake @ Billington Sea Kayak where we bought it. Easy as pie to throw up on my ladder racks, especially compared to my 128T. Get your photo up so we can see your ride, and how big your 1st fish with it is!

Stopped by BH Reservoir for a little bit after work. My Sonar-Phone showed small groups of fish around 10' deep in a couple areas, though the bigger fish were on the bottom. Not so much as a bite. They're out of my casting range (Sonar-Phone weighs 4 oz., it flies). A couple guys who are regulars were there: we all agreed that the place might be over fished because we've all had little luck since last August and often witnessed folks taking their catches home. The pond is not stocked, according to State employees I spoke to last year. A couple more weeks should show great improvement.

Well? Have you picked up your new 'yak yet? I bought an Ascend 128T today; picking it up tomorrow. Couldn't argue with the price. Can't wait to get it in the water.

Nice video, especially since I live on the ocean and just bought a 'yak. Luckily, there'll be little chance of me catching an eleven foot Hammer Head in Massachusetts. Good luck for those who do...

I was in your dilemma just a couple of hours ago, at my local BPS. Staring at the 12T & 128T trying to decide which one to buy. I went with the 128T in the end because for the added $150, it has a bigger deck, storage hatch, and comes with an anchor trolley installed. When you add those few accessories to the 12T to match the 128T, you're within $100 or so, which isn't much more than a tank of gas for anyone who owns a P/U. Additionally, the 360 swiveling seat on the 128T looked to be better quality than the 12T's. I did, however, lean towards the 12T because of the shape of the rear storage compartment, but the 128T's overall package tipped the scales for me. Besides, if you're a First Responder, Cop, or Military, they'll comp you the 10% discount, which helped me rationalize the 128T a little more easily. That being said, I pick my 128T tomorrow after my daughter's swim meet. All I need is some warmer weather and a day off..... Best of luck choosing your 'yak!

Good to hear. Now all I need is a day off so I can get back there and map the place out (basic topo map from: the MWRA's website) my Sonar-Phone and, God forbid, throw a lure or two....

Popped by BHR Tuesday afternoon to snoop around & try out the Sonar-Phone I bought over the winter. The open water between the road and that first point gets to between 24 & 27' deep. Water temp was 33.8, so we still have a little way to go. Soon enough, though.

I bought one for myself for Christmas and finally got out to throw it in a real pond. It appears to be legitimate. It creates it's own short distance WiFi network which my iPhone connected to easily. I cast as close to the ice's edge as I could and slowly reeled it back. Comparing it to a topographic map of the pond shows it to be accurate. It showed a water temperature of 33 degrees. One the bass wake up I'll know for sure, but so far it seems to work well. Seeing as it's $85 to fill my truck, it's not expensive.

Can't post it - Wailing Sounds by Lord Sutch & Heavy Friends. Anyone out there know any of the band members? Hint: late '60s, most were VERY famous....
