  1. OK guys, after seeing everyone's success with jerkbaits I am going to upgrade some of mine and really dedicate myself to them this upcoming year. I currently only have Rapala Husky Jerk and X Rap. Can anyone put together a starting point for a few other brands/models I should try? All that is available here locally is Rapala so the higher end stuff like Lucky Craft is unknown to me. I will have to buy online so please include as much specifics as possible so I don't buy the wrong ones. Thanks Frank
  2. Nice fish! Those may be the biggest perch I have ever seen.
  3. Thinking of going but can't bring the boat. Anyone from the Southeastern PA/NJ area want to meet up?
  4. My first Dobyns. Now I just need a reel...
  5. I have a St Croix Premier 5' with a Pflueger President and love it. The rod feels great and the reel is so smooth. Cost me around $150 at full price. I'm sure it could be had cheaper. I got a 20" Pickerel on a Gulp alive minnow and 1/16oz jig head with 4lb mono. Lots of fun. PS: GO EAGLES!
  6. I ordered a DX744 and can't wait for it to get here Monday. The only thing that sucks it that I will have to wait until spring to try it out. I still have not even seen one in person lol.
  7. I must be doing something wrong. I don't get how you guys can cast 100 yards. I have a Lews Tournament pro speed spool on a MH duckett and even if I really try to bomb something far like a 1/2oz jig I can only get maybe 25-30 yards. I have the spool loose and mag brakes off and one cent. brake on. At first I thought I was just underestimating the distance but then I thought about it in boat lengths. 100 yards is almost 17 18' boat lengths and I can tell you that i get nowhere near that. Sorry to derail the thread.
  8. I knew that's how he catches all of those fish.. Only logical explanation to me.
  9. It's a PITA. I have done it for a shakey head setup. You just have to keep twisting it until it stretches enough and it will eventually penetrate the worm.
  10. How do you determine what pound it is set at? I just pull by hand to get a feel for how tight it is.
  11. This really makes sense to me. Seems like the same issue I am having. It didn't really pick up for me until the first or second week of April this year. I did really well during the summer when it is usually tough. I don't think the water ever hit 80 degrese which is low for here. It usually gets to about 90 in July/August. Ever since September the fish here have just turned off. I am lucky to get one or two fish at best now.
  12. Chronarch 150Ci4 may be an option as well.. Is this smaller than the 200 but larger than the 50 I take it?
  13. Sweet! Thanks for that Rock. I will be getting in touch with Ron soon. Kickerfish, do you think I am better off getting the Chronarch 50E and just getting some Boca bearings and upgraded drag washers instead of the Core? The Core 50MG7 seems to be substantially lighter than the Chronarch 50e. 5.5 vs 7.1 oz. The core in a 7 ratio is 28 IPT vs Chronarch in 6.4 at 25 IPT. I dont know if its worth changing out the gears for only 3 IPT.
  14. I am going to get a DX744 at the Black Friday sale as my dedicated bottom contact rod. I am just not sure what reel I want. I think I am going to go with a Shimano since I have never fished one. I wanted a 7 ratio and was looking at the Chronarch but I like the smaller size of the 50 series. Maybe I will splurge and just get a Core. Do you find the lower line capacity to be a problem? Do you think the difference between the Chronarch and Core 50 series is worth the extra cash?
  15. I have the same problem. It is acurate though. Those batteries aren't cheap either.
  16. It doesn't matter what you do. The bait monkey never stops and the next thing you know you are carrying hundreds of pounds of gear and upgrading to a tackle boat. I used to use a backpack from Cabelas that worked well. I had so much stuff in it that I wanted to fall backwards lol. I say you just keep your current system and manage your gear you will use during that given trip. Beware of the Bait Monkey!
  17. Unfortunatley with my work schedule and a few upcoming personal commitments I may not be free to get out until December and barring a mild winter I don't know if I will. I am already sad thinking it's over Anyone in Florida want to invite me to their house?
  18. Mitch I must commend you on your reports. Always good pics and info. Being semi-local to me it is inspirational to see someone have some success when I have been struggling lately. I am going to hit the Conowingo dam on Saturday. Have you ever fished there before? PS: No sandwich?
  19. DT series and I just picked up some DD22. The 6xd that I have seem to get destroyed after a day or two of use. Split rings open/rust, bills crack.
  20. I agree. My favorite jig from Siebert.
  21. Holy Happy Birthday list! I need to drop $500 on myself for my birthday in December.
  22. Improved albright seems to be the smallest but still will not fit through the micro guides on my Duckett when using heavier braid. This is one reason I am not getting another micro guide rod.
  23. I just got the same reel. I like it. The ratio is a little scary if a fish is swimming towards you lol. The anti reverse takes a min to get used to but isn't bad. The rubber on my paddles is peeling after two trips out though. Works great for the deep divers.
  24. That sucks from an employment and fishing standpoint. Hopefuly everything works out.
