Nice. I just picked up a Metanium as well. I got a good deal on it. I was suprised at how much it is like the Chronarch Ci4 I have. I have not got to cast either so I don't know about the performance. The biggest difference is the handle is much longer on the metanium.

I have never even owned a Diawa reel and I am jealous. What is that like 10K worth of reels? Impressive!

Could we start at the beginning for the thermocline idiots (me)? I do not really know much about it so I will be watching. Also maybe some pics of it on a fishfinder?

How would you compare it to a tournament pro? Doesn't seem much different other than the foam grips.

Horsepower restrictions. There are so many lakes here that are huge that have electric only or 9.9 HP restriction. This limits my boat use to about three areas out of about fifty. Most lakes are so big that the thought of even trying to cover them with a trolling motor is crazy. Why not just make them no wake lakes instead? A 9.9 is essentially a gas trolling motor anyway.

I hate the winter.

I have a BB1 with the lowest ratio for cranking. No issues at all with it.

I have the same setup but a MH and a Lews BB1 in the 5.1 ratio. I think the rod was $80 and the reel was around $150 but can be found cheaper.

I have a 7' Clarus MH crankbait rod and I must say that I am suprised how well it fishes squarebills and shallow to mid diving cranks. The crucial is the next model up so I would imagine it would do just fine, just not sure about the medium power.

Between the lack of fishing and our first snow here suicide has been a regular thought. In all serious though, I need to go to some warm now. Lets go to baccarac

PQ on a Megabass? Talk about putting all of the money into the rod The thing that turns me off on the Daiwa is the weight. You wouldn't think that one ounce would be much of a difference but after holding even the 200E7 vs the Ci4 it was night and day. I am used to a Lews Tournament pro which is aroud the 6.5 oz mark so I know I didn't want to go heavier.

I was in the same boat and after doing much research and seeing them in person I went with the Ci4. From all of the reviews I have read from people who have actually fished the reel have nothing but positives to say. Now to be clear I just got it on sunday and it is snowing here so I have not used it. The biggest thing that sold me was the fact that its lighter than an E and is about the size of a 50 series but has the extra line capacity. Now another fact to be clear on is that I have not fished another Shimano other than a G series curado and a Canean. I feel like most of the negative remarks on this reel are from long time Shimano purist who are not willing to embrace new technology. They're dead set on how it compares to their other reels just on feel rather than giving it a try. Like what was stated above, does anyone really think Shimano is going to put out a crap product? Even the hate on the G series Curado is only because it was different. It doesn't mean its a bad reel. Not as nice as an E, yes, but crap, no. Who knows, I may end up hating it and go back to Lews but I can at least say I tried it out. Unfortunatley old man winter is delaying my opinion until some time in March. My advise is go see them in person with an open mind. Hold both E and Ci4 in hand and make your choice that way. Sorry if it turns into another Shimano hate thread.

Maybe just do a sticky thread instead? We also have to do something to clean up the what rod/reel threads. People need to utilize the search function instead of making a thousand threads on the same rods/reels. I am all in favor of getting opinions but to have multiple threads on the same thing is tiresome. I am not complaining. All of the mods do a great job here. Just throwing out some ideas.

I am in the same boat. Looking at a reel for my DX744. Can't decide on this or a Core or a JDM offering.

Stan I have been going back and fourth about joining. Not sure if I am ready to tournament fish yet.. I will think about it.

That Aldebaran is so badass. Definetly on the wish list. I'm jealous.

I am also looking for a finesse spinning rod. I am thinking of getting a Champion 702. Not sure if I want to splurge for the Extreme. I just got my first Dobyns, a DX744 and can't wait to fish it. I am curious to compare a Champion to an extreme.

God Rock, now you have me worried that I got the wrong rod. I got a 744 for my bottom contact rod. I don't throw larger than 1/2oz jigs but with a trailer I would imagine they're at least 3/4. I figured I would be good with the weight range up to 1oz?
