  1. I may go on Sunday. My club fishes a lot there. I heard the water temp was around 46 or so.
  2. I have a 2013 Pro 165 with a 40 HP EFI. With my buddy and I loaded with fuel and grear it will do about 35 on glass water. I also fish Penn Warner and it does well there but you could not tournament fish from this boat because of the livewell. I would recommend a larger trolling motor. Want to buy mine?
  3. I had Oakley with the VR28 lenses but the frames bothered the side of my head after a long day. I switched to Costa Saltbreak with the 580G with green mirror lense and they're amazing. Nicest glasses I've tried. Got mine well under MSRP from amazon.
  4. I took Grant's idea and used a 7/8 chair cap on my 803. What a difference. I have never really payed attention to balance before but with this cap and two nickels it feels weightless, just floats in my hand with the new Aldebaran. The 7/8 cap fits tight. I should not have to tape it. Doesn't look as bad as some things I have seen and I guess it protects the butt too. Thanks Grant!
  5. Do these caps stay on or did you have to tape them on? Also is there enough room for the washers to have the cap stay on tightly?
  6. Hm.. I didn't even consider a 50 series conquest.. Not sure if it will have enough line capacity. The new HG model would be money though..
  7. I have an 893 as well. It's paired with a Metanium XG and while not perfect, its not too bad. I think a reel in the 7-7.5 oz range would help a lot. I am however having a problem finding a reel for my 803. You would think a rod that short could use a lighter reel. Not exactly. With the short handle it still needs something in the 7oz range. Hey DVT, would it be possible to modify on of these rods to a full grip to help with the weight?
  8. I had a SS SV and didn't even spool it up. It feels like complete hollow plastic. The second I put it in my hand I hated it. The risk of buying from japan without seeing it in person beforehand.
  9. I got mine and have only casted it in the yard and have mixed feelings about it. This is the first DC reel I have used and I guess I was expecting a little more. I have mine on an 803NRX with 12# Abrazx casting a 3/8 jig. I have adjusted the brakes on every setting and still seem to get bad backlashes if doing a harder cast. If I do an easier cast is seems fine but I get no distance. Pitching it seems to do great but just regular roll casting seems to be hit or miss.
  10. Isn't the braid more absorbent than the mono?
  11. Nice. What model NRX?
  12. I have heard of people using Teflon tape for plumbing instead of electrical tape. It will not leave any residue on the spool.
  13. Does that alphas have a clicking drag star? I am a little underwhelmed with the Metanium DC and may pick up one.
  14. That was nice but he's still gutting my team.. Philadelphia Kneeagles.
  15. Nice write up Goose. I have the same one on the way. For now it's goine on my NRX803 for my dock skipping, light jigs and T-rigs. How well do you think the DC will help with the backlashes while skipping? I have a Conquest for my crankbait rod but if I do not like it the Metanium DC will go on that. I have a Metanium XG for my main jig rod but never cast with it, just pitch and flip. I can't wait to see how well this thing can cast.
  16. I see what you did there... The JDM bait monkey is an even deadlier species.
  17. I have officially lost my mind. Metanium DC on the way.. Anyone fish one yet?
  18. There's a reason why the NRX is the benchmark for sensitivity. You can get a rep sample for under $400. I have an 893 and 803 and payed $385 and $325. Contact The Tackle Trap.
  19. With the new aldebaran it's going to be hard to find a stock rod to balanceMy 803 NRX which is a very light rod needs around 6oz or so to have it where I like it. If not custom you're going to need something in the 6' length range thats light. It's cool how light the reel is but I feel that it's almost getting out of hand with how light they are for balance reasons. Maybe try to find a used Cumulus?
  20. Unfortunately I bought mine from another board member but it was brand new in the box. Which parts did you end up needing?
  21. Did you ever get this resolved? I just got a PXR with the same issue..
  22. I just got bit by the NRX bug as well. Picked up an 893 and 803 from The Tackle Trap as rep samples. Gary is awesome to deal with and the prices are great. Anyway, Gary tried to talk me into an 894 for my primary jig rod but I was a bit worried that it would be too heavy for where I fish. The cover here isn't as crazy as down south so I opted for the 893. He said it would handle the 1/2oz jig with trailer just fine plus I mainly fish 3/8. I got the 803 for a close quarters dock shipping rod for finesse jigs and light T-rigs. Upon getting both of these rods just by looking at them the 893 is significantly thicker than the 803. Gary said the 893 fishes almost like a 3 1/2 power. I have not got to try either out but just going by looks I could see that being true. The only concern I would have with these rods is the balance. They are so light and with a lighter reel they can be tip heavy depending on the model. My 893 has a Metanium on it and it is ok. An 894 would need a reel in the 7oz range I'd imagine. I am anxious to fish these rods and want to see if they live up to the hype. I switched from the Dobyns DX line so time will tell.
  23. Dobyns 705CB. I have one but have not got to use it yet. Did lots of research and it seems to be one of the highest regarded cranking rods available.
  24. Mustang HIT here. It's on sale at BPS for $199 now. Don't have to worry about the rain and I believe while the inflators are more expensive they last longer than the non HIT ones. My logic was that if it's something meant to save my life buy the best one I can. I just didn't trust those dissolvable bobbins. The Mustang is comfortable and I do not take it off during the day. It's not in the way while fishing and not hot at all.
