Bassmaster Classic 2022
I’m thinking of attending my first classic in 2022. Having never been, I would like to hear from some people who have gone to one. Also, do I need to buy tickets ahead of time for the weigh ins and expo?

Brush hog style lures?
Baby brush hog is my go to, caught so many fish on them over the years. However this season I am interested in trying the KVD Game Hawg, I don’t think it will replace the zooms but I will give it a try.

New St Croix rod
Do you feel this rod Is still underrated, or is it more Inline with everyone else’s MH?
-
What is the story with the new Kistlers?
So does this mean they won’t be made in the USA anymore?

New St Croix rod
I was always curious about the Muse, is it true to its ratings, or is the M say more of a MH?

Douglas Outdoors?
Anyone know anything about their rods? From what I could gather, they have been making fly rods but now are in the bass rod market. I saw them on tackle warehouse, but can’t find much on them.

BPS buys SW.
They also did away with the Bargin Cave in the stores which sucks. I was just at the Cabelas in Hartford last weekend, the fishing section was a ghost town, except of course for the Bass Pro rods. I really hate that it’s all you see in Cabelas now.

Alpha Angler Clutch 7'5" MF. Opinions?
I don’t have the clutch, but I do have the Zilla. It’s an awesome rod and does a variety of things well. I mainly use it for 1/2oz jigs. It’s light, very well balanced and very sensitive. I was also looking at the clutch for light Texas rigs, if I were you I would not hesitate to give it a shot.

Duckett Jacob Wheeler rods
At one time all my rods were Ducketts. Now I only have one, but it’s not because I didn’t like them. I just wanted something different. I have only broken one Duckett, and it was actually my fault. The one I still have is an original Micro Magic from when they first came out, and that rod has caught a ton of fish. I had a Wheeler series rod and honestly, it was my least favorite of the Ducketts. I had a 7’0 MH, and while light, I feel like it was more between a MH and a Heavy. It also was not as sensitive as I was hoping for, so I ended up getting rid of it. Not to say you won’t love it, but for me it was a no go.

Upset with Cabelas/BPS
I have a BPS about 35-40 minutes from me, and I don't go often. They never have anything I want or need, ever. Even before the corona. The fish tank they have always looks horrible like its never taken care of. Most of the people who work there in the fishing dept have no clue what they are doing or talking about. I also have a Cabelas about 50 minutes from me, and one in the other direction a little over an hour. The closer one is very small, about half the size of the other. However both of them have gone really downhill since the BPS takeover. I used to like to go there because they had different stuff and I could actually get some things I wanted plus there was always a good deal in the bargain cave which they did away with in both stores. I don't think I have ordered from either of them online for at least a year now. With so many other places online it doesn't make sense, at least for me unless I have gift cards. I would really like to see someone else move into the area, since all the DSG around here have almost nothing as it is. I feel like say if Academy came in they would put DSG right out of business. There really isn't much in the way of mom and pop shops here either, for freshwater anyway. When BPS came in it sunk all those businesses.

The latest sale thread
Not sure if anyone is aware, but MidwayUSA is having a big clearance sale and they have alot of fishing stuff cheap, and I mean some things are dirt cheap. For example I bought some baby brush hogs for $2.57 per pack and they also have alot of rods on sale like Cashion rods for $115

Refurb and demo rods
I bought one of these, a Legend X. Saved about $100 and it still had the tags on it, still carries the factory warranty. The St Croix rods from them actually have a 1 year warranty, I’m not sure about the other brands.

Marketing/Hype vs Science/Common Sense
I love fishing on the cape, there are 3 ponds in RI that I fish that are super clear, and actually a lot of others that start out that way but end up stained by mid summer

Marketing/Hype vs Science/Common Sense
I use fluoro for a few reasons. A few of the lakes here are surprisingly gin clear, it sinks which will help in certain situations, and I feel as if it has better abrasion resistance than mono for the numerous lakes with rock around here. Also it doesn’t stretch like mono for certain baits but it has more stretch than braid. I also feel it is more sensitive for bottom contact than mono. Of course this is just how I feel about it and confidence is a big thing right? That being said, when I run out of what I have I’m going to try going all mono again and see if I notice a difference. I currently have mono on two cranking rods and honestly I’m not noticing anything different. Fluoro isn’t cheap either.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Yeah, you can still fish in CT from out of state, but then that’s another $55 license and at least an hour travel time. Massachusetts didn’t seem to have a problem taking my money for a license and a Fall River boat ramp parking permit ?

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
They aren’t, but who the hell wants to fish in R.I.? ?
-
Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Well I guess I won’t be fishing the cape anytime soon. Apparently there is a memo on the FBA website saying as if April 27th only Mass residents can use Mass boat ramps. I live on the Mass RI line, so it’s cool if I go to Home Depot in Seekonk and be around 100 people, but I can’t use a boat ramp where I most likely won’t be near anyone?

Trouble With Perch Colored Baits
I caught a perch on a perch colored jerkbait today. I also caught 3 trout on the same jerkbait.??♂️

Lews Reel Problem
Nah, a replacement was cheap enough so I figured if I’m taking it apart I want to do it once and at least this way I will know it is new.

Lews Reel Problem
Drag is good, I ordered a new anti reverse bearing for it so we will see what happens. Thanks guys

Lews Reel Problem
So I’m having an issue with one of my lews reels. It is a tournament lite, I’m currently using it for jerkbaits. The problem is when I’m working it back to the boat, every now and then when I move the rod to move the jerkbait the reel free spools like someone pushed the thumb bar to cast it. Sometimes this will give me a backlash, sometimes not. There is no noise when this happens, but a turn of the handle brings it back to normal. It doesn’t happen all the time but it is pretty frustrating, any ideas?

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
You guys are lucky to live near/on the cape, it’s my favorite place to fish. Unfortunately it’s over an hour ride so I don’t get down there as much as I would like. Up here the fish haven’t really been to cooperative, water temps still in the high 40s.

Jackhammer blade paint chipping off
It happens on a steady retrieve, I haven’t changed the speed Since it was working fine, also haven’t changed the trailer. It just started happening out of nowhere, i am going to try and change the trailer I guess and see what happens.

Jackhammer blade paint chipping off
My jackhammer paint seems to be holding up, but it’s acting weird now. When reeling it in, all of a sudden it will stop vibrating and kind of roll in a circle then start vibrating running true again. Not sure what’s happening with it but it was fine the first few times I fished it.

BPS excel mono/mono recommendation
I don’t see where it’s cheaper. TW has the sunline at $6.99 for a 330yd spool of 12, where as the BPS Excel is $10.99 for 1200yds of 12. Anyway I have used the Excel for probably 25 years without issue, it’s always been good line for me. I wouldn’t hesitate to try the Sunline stuff though, they make really good line. I have had nothing but bad experience with Berkley line so I can’t recommend them.
