Going back to budget?
Has anyone ever gone back to budget rods from higher end rods? Years ago I used all BPS extreme rods. Caught a ton of fish on them, even won tournaments on them. Then little by little I started buying more expensive rods. This past season, I noticed I actually caught more fish on my cheaper rods than my expensive ones. For example, a few weeks ago I loaded the boat on an $79 BPS cranking stick while my Orochi XX Swingfire sat in the rod locker. It started to make me think that maybe I don't need to be buying these more expensive rods, maybe I should go back to buying budget rods. Anyone else ever experience this?

Orochi XX Casting Rod 7'5" Extreme Mission Type F?
The new EMTF is supposed to have a different taper to it more geared towards treble hook baits. The new Daemos took over where the old EMTF left off for bottom contact.

Duckett Ghost or Dobyns Fury
I really like the Duckett Rods, however I have broken 2 and I’m afraid to buy anymore because of it. One was a ghost 7’3 heavy, the other a micro magic cranking rod. I had a white ice and didn’t like it, I only have one Duckett left and it’s another cranking micro magic. I have a friend who loves the fury series, but I have never used them.

Favorite and most productive Fall Lure ?
Normally, its either a jig or Texas rigged plastic. Oddly enough, this year for me it has been crank baits and chatter baits.

What am I doing wrong?ADVICE
Don't get discouraged, not catching anything comes with the territory. I have been fishing since I was 8 years old, I'm now 38 and last weekend I got completely skunked both days I went. Didn't matter what I threw, the fish were just giving me the middle finger. There has been a lot of great advice already given so I won't repeat any of it, but you have to try to stay positive. If you lose the battle in your head, you are for sure going to lose it on the water.

Fall fish water temperature

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Cochituate has weeds, weeds and more weeds. Well, it usually does, not sure about the end of October though. I haven't fished there this time of year. It is made up of three ponds. A lot of the tourneys I have fished there have been won in the south pond which is where I normally fish. If you can fit your boat through the tunnel thats where I would go. I never had much success in the middle pond, but I have also caught a few good ones in the north pond. There are big ones in there, I can remember some years back a guy in my old club caught a couple that were pushing 8lbs. Spinnerbaits along the weed lines seem to excel there as well as jigs and soft plastics, in my experience anyway. The ramp is pretty much one big long ramp where you launch and pull straight forward into a parking spot. It is also steep and typically covered in goose ****. Also if they still have the docks in the water at the ramp be careful using them, they can be very slippery.

Baitcasters; Right vs Left handed retrieve...
I am ambidextrous so I can use rods and reels either way. But I prefer a right hand retrieve reel, but I also prefer to cast with my right. I can do pretty much everything equally with both hands like swing a golf club, bat, throw a ball etc. The only thing I can't do with both hands anymore is write, I haven't done it since I was very young and my parents told me I had to pick a hand so I went with the right.

Hit Mashpee last Friday, got 8 smallies all on crank baits. Biggest was probably 2.5lbs, only had one dink. No largemouth to be found. All were caught in 4-5 feet of water, water temp was 73-74.

Why do I even fish?
At least you have caught a fish on a Whopper Plopper. I bought one when they first came out idk how many years ago, still haven't caught a ******* thing on it! I like Baby Brush Hogs a lot, try a different color. I have had the most success with watermelonseed and big texan. Do you have any buddies you like to go with? I have recently found some new fishing buddies and it makes a big difference for me, even if we aren't catching any we still have a good time just hanging out on the boat, talking and making jokes.

Economy Rods
I have used BPS rods a lot in the past, and in my 30 years of fishing I have never broke a single one. The said, I still have a Berkley Stinger 5'6 rod that I like to use for spooks that I got back in the 80's when I was a kid.

Best jerkbaits/squarbill rod?
On a whim I bought a Duckett Micro Magic crankbait rod back when they first came out. I was going to throw square bills on it, which I eventually did, but instead started throwing jerk baits on it. I absolutely love it as a jerk bait rod.I even threw a Pop R and a buzz bait on it the other day, the buzz bait was kind of iffy but I managed to catch a 4lber with it. I had a couple other Ducketts I didn't care for and they actually broke, but this one is still going strong. I have recently been switching over to all Megabass rods but this particular Duckett is one of my favorites.

Personal favorite reel brand
I used to use Shimano religiously, then I had gotten two or three new ones and had nothing but problems with them. I decided to try out Abu Garcia, had a couple revos that I had issues with. Bought a couple of Lew’s and that’s what I have most of now, no issues. I did however just purchase a new Daiwa Tatula Sv Tw, so we will see how that works out. Maybe I just have bad luck with reels haha

How long before stopping?
I will avg 4-5 hours before packing it in if nothing is happening. if its hot and there is absolutely no wind and nothing is going on, it could be 3 hours before I'm out. Although I have been out for 8 hour days and haven't gotten a sniffle before.

Boat friendly lodging on Winni
Hey guys, I have a tourney next month on Winni, and I have never been. I'm looking for some boat friendly lodging so I can spend a couple of long weekends up there getting to know the lake a little. We are launching from Shep Browns in Meredith.

Older boat livewell
Do the older bass boats, from the late 80's to early 90's have a timer for the livewells? I'm looking at a couple of older cajuns, and I know the newer boats have an manual/auto setting.

Looking at a couple new to me boats
Hey guys, so I finally decided to move from my Jon to a glass boat. I have been looking at a couple for sale near me, and would like some/any input. The boats in question are a 1997 Nitro 640lx, a 1994 Cajun 160, and a 1992 Bass Cat Margay. The Nitro and the Cajun are in great shape, the Bass Cat could use new upholstery on the seats and some new carpet. The nitro has a 75hp merc, the Cajun an evinrude 88spl, and the Bass Cat has a 115 merc which looks newer. I'm trying to stay in the 16.5-17 ft range since I never fish anything over 1500 acres, and also storage space is tight. Anything in particular I should look for in any of these boats besides the usual? Any reason one is better than the other?

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Fished a tourney at Webster yesterday. One end of the lake, the water was 57. The other end the water was 62. I saw beds, but they were all empty. From what I gathered at the weigh in, there were only 2 fish caught on beds. We ended up with 5, but missed a few in the process. Couldn't get them to hit anything moving at all. I got a nice 4.2 on an ugly otter, the other 4 were small keepers.

Anyone fished Webster yet? Know what the water temp is?

Good smallmouth ponds or Lakes in Massachusetts
My two favorites for smallies would be Mashpee/Wakeby and Long Pond Harwich, both on the cape. You can only fish Long Pond before memorial day and after labor day, as the ramp is only for town residents in between.

Sunline vs Seaguar
I switched from Seaguar to Sunline FC sniper 3 years ago, and honestly I wish I would have done it sooner.
