  1. How long have you had it and when was the last time it was serviced? maybe it needs new drags?
  2. Its offical. Core 50/51 as an replacement of the chronarch mg http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/low_profile_baitcasting/core.html Comes in 7:1 gear 5.5 oz w/ 10lb drags. 7 bearings. I really want to see this reel.
  3. You are kidding me right? A lot of sw fisherman here use braid backing tied to a fluro or mono topshot to get more line capacity so they wont get spooled. If the knot is tied right the mono/fluro would break before the knot fails. Also by using braid you can get away w/ using smaller reels for sw.
  4. where can you get a sol for that price? new?
  5. If you think the buffet at the RIO is good, YOU HAVE TO TRY THE BUFFET AT THE BELLAGIO next time. I personally feel its way better. their lamb chops is so good its not even funny.
  6. fuego if you can still find a bps that has it for $99 Otherwise I would definantly get the sol. It can handle saltwater and the way its balanced when you spin the reel is incredible. I dont spend too much on spinning reel because I feel as long as it has a smooth strong drag, lays line correctly and reels smoothly, it good enough. For fresh water bass fishing anyways. Save the money on a good rod.
  7. I have a brand new in box daiwa luna 203 forsale. Really solid. $155 shipped. pm me if you are interested.
  8. I wouldn't get the calcutta b. its not worth it. If you want to save some money, get the cardiff. It cast great and relatively lightweight. The curado has the HEG which I think is a big advantage when retrieving resistance lures. the regular calcuttas are expensive, heavy w/o the HEG. I'd much rather get a daiwa luna instead of a calcutta b. A lot better looking and solid. If you are interested I have a mint Cardiff 301 forsale for $80 shipped. I also have a NIB daiwa luna 203 RH $155 shipped. The reason I am selling the cardiff is that I have a Calcutta TE 401 for swimbaits and I got a Curado 301d for saltwater bass fishing so I really dont have a use for the cardiff anymore. I havn't used the cu 301 so I can't give a comment on it.
  9. Where did you see about the sol. I looked on the BPS website under the fathers day sale but I didn't see it mentioned. I would definitely like to pick one up if they are on sale for that price. Oh I said I'd rather get a sol spinning reel. Basspro sent out an ad that says they are selling the daiwa fuego spinning reel for $99 on fathers day. In store only I think.
  10. I think I would go w/ the stella out of the two. But if it were me, I wouldn't get either. the money can be used for a Great baitcasting reel and/or rod. I think spinning reels just needs to lay line correctly and have a smooth drag and smooth retrieve which a lot of them do in the $100 range. Unless its for offshore saltwater fishing then you need a better reel. But we are talking about freshwater bass fishing. I still use my $40 shimano aero spinning reel for my loomis drop shot rod and its perfectly fine. Smooth as the day I bought it and I believe I have only serviced it once out of 7yrs of use in fresh and salt conditions. If you want a high end spinning reel and save some money, basspro is having a sale on fathers day on the daiwa fuego spinning reel retails at 249 now 99 on that day. I personally would go for the daiwa sol spinning reel if I needed another spinning reel. but 99 is hard to beat.
  11. Hey ghost! How come you use those floaters on the setups on the float tube but not on the pontoon?
  12. I dont know which setups you should get but I know they make a rod holder for float tubes.
  13. Given your price. Personally I would go w/ shimano citica ($119) shimano clarus 7' mh (79.99) That is if you are paying msrp.
  14. what kind of application are you planning to use it for, lure weight, line size?
  15. I have one forsale Brand new in box for $125 shipped. If any one is interested email me at mikeoway@yahoo.com Its Rh retrieve. I fish LH
  16. If you have the money or shop around for used reels, the calcutta TE 201 is fantastic. This is my go to reel for moving baits w/ resistance. I feel no fatigue in terms of reeling because the gears are so big. I know it weights a little more then some LP reels but once you try it you'll be hooked. Lets just say I have a calais and this CTE. If I only had one choice I'd keep the CTE. The calcutta seems to be just as smooth if not smoother then the calais even though it doesn't have as much bearings. I am not sure about the regular calcutta B. They dont have the HEG. I would not get it. I'd rather get a daiwa luna or a cardiff. I dont think the regular calcuttas are worth the money.
  17. I have some reels forsale all new in box and around your price range http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1240532537
  18. Expensive Gloomis > shimano Less expensive Used Gloomis ,Shimano If you shop around you can get some used rods for 1/2 or less then retail.
  19. I use to use backpack but if you leave it on for a while when fishing my shoulders would feel the fatigue after a while. This is what I bought to replace my current fannypack. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_103318____SearchResults For $12.88 you can't beat it. It was onsale this after thanksgiving sale and the quality was so good and the belt/padding/material was so good I picked up 2 just in case this one rips which I doubt so I'll have another one. you can wear it like a fanny pack in front of you and you have access to the bag easily.
  20. thnx Branuss04, I actually have 3 200's and really like them, I use to only throw Garcia rounds, and did hav 1 Lews. I liked the rounds alot but wanted to try something new so went w/ Curados. It appears alot of guys run the rounds for swimbaits I wasny sure the LP Curados would be up to the task. I am sure the 300 curado will work for your application. In fact I would say it is better then the cardiff 301. It has more drag and HEG. I have a cardiff 301 and I think its nice too so it depends on your preference either LP or Round. If you have the patients to shop around you should definantly look for a deal on the calcutta te 300 unless you need left hand like I do. The TE is a whole lot smoother then the cardiff and I'm sure will last longer then I will. Someone is selling a CTE 401 for $200 in another forum that i go to. PM me if you are interested and I will send you a link.
  21. Went there in person around 2 months ago to drop off 2 reels that I bought used to get serviced. At first they said 3 weeks and then they noticed it was a calais and Calcutta te which both are under the platium service plan which took maybe 2 days. The reason is a lot of saltwater fisherman are getting their reels serviced because its the end of the season. I got my reels back and they are as good as new. I only paid 1/2 of what they cost new at msrp but after getting it serviced, they are as good as new mech-wise. Cant get better then shimano customer service which is why most of my reels are shimanos.
  22. Do yourself a favor and get it. Try it out, dont like it then sell it for $200. If you like it, you scored big!
  23. Why did you have to take off the side plate to put line on it?
  24. I would send it in to shimano just because they will replace anything wrong w/ it for basically a flat rate which they charge for clean and service. If the reel looks so beat up or not worth fixing they may even replace it w/ a new one for you for free! This is why Majority of my reels are shimano. They will take care of their customers.
  25. I would just get it serviced by shimano if I were you. They will make it like new. But if you want to get a newer better reel then I would highly suggest considering the shimano calcutta te. You dont have to buy new because they are pretty expensive. Try to get a used one. I recently got one used and compare to the cardiff, its heavier but the retrieve is sooo smooth that I dont even care. It has a lot more power because of the HEG and it makes a big difference w/ moving baits.
