  1. And This is why I will never buy a duckett rod! I will saw right off the bat that I have never used a duckett and I wont lose any sleep over it. Not putting a specific action on the rod to let your customers know what type of rod to expect is ridiculous for any rod over $70. I expect it on a house brand rod from $30-$60 Cabelas, Gndr Mtn, or BPS but for $160 I can get a Pinnacle Perfecta, Fenwick, St, Croix, or any number of better rods that will tell me a Power, Action, Line, and Lure rating. Granted they are not the same between companies but lets face we all have brand loyalty to some extent and know what to expect from a power and action from our rods.
  2. Thats the Med-Heavy version for deep diving crankbaits.
  3. Same here on the daiwa S rod. I have a veritas 2.0 medium power winch model and I like it.
  4. I have done the best with Berkley Kicker frogs. The legs can be fragile but I have never missed a hookset.
  5. I have had a few skirts destroyed in the last few weeks and I cant find some that I like. I have bought a few different brands from tackle warehouse and they're ok but I want 1 skirt that has triple or even double the amount of strands as the standard skirts. Does anyone know where better skirts can be found?
  6. I personally like the faster gears. I can just reel slower. that seems easier to me than trying to reel faster.
  7. It depends on the model you choose from the Loomis, St. Croix, Dobyns line. I only know the St. Croix Line-up and can say that there is a big difference between the triumph and a Legend. Personally I would try an "Avid" series rod and see what you think. its in the middle of there line and a very nice rod. I have noticed that there are smaller differences in sensitivity when you get to the higher end of the spectrum of rods. you start paying for the name and other things like finish and better cork. these things might make the rod better but arent going to help you catch more fish. I like to stay in the middle of the range of rods and have only splurged on 1 rod, my St. Croix Legend bass rod and I do love it. I also love my Pinnacle Perfecta, Fenwick EliteTech Smallmouth, and my Avid rod. In the end its all up to you but to answer your question NO there will not be a difference between your BPS rod and a $500 rod like there is between the Ugly Stick and your BPS rod because your comparing a fiberglass rod to a graphite rod.
  8. Suffix 832 over power pro. I know its preference and I think that suffix is better
  9. I drain the livewell at the landing. they have 20-30 minutes before they get cleaned. have I ever cleaned a live fish? yes. do I feel bad? no. Im not about to start cutting the heads, slitting their gills, or anything else. if I was worried about it I would go to the grocery store and buy fish.
  10. 20 gauge or a S&W .40
  11. Hi guys. I have a question about how you rig a crankbait and why. what affects the action for better or worse. I use 30Lb braid and a snap. Most of my cranks have oval split rings, Is there a difference whether round or oval? some dont have split rings, Should I put one on them? How will a split ring or a snap affect topwaters (spooks, poppers, and such), squarebills, and deep divers? Thanks for your input Tight Lines!
  12. I was disappointed. I traded it for a 3607 and it is great.
  13. I really Like my Quantum Accurist PT.
  14. For $100 I would look at the BPS Pro Qualifier.
  15. Small flathead screwdriver inside one of the holes and try and get underneath the plate?
  16. I have been helping my father-in-law fix a few things on his boat and we have gone fishing a few times and he fishes A LOT faster than I like to. I like to troll to a spot like a weedline with a ledge or a fallen tree and work it and then move on. He prefers to keep the trolling motor at half power putting the speed near 2mph and cast the crankbaits and spinnerbaits. this is far too fast to effectively work the worms, frogs, and craws that I like to fish. Any suggestions would be helpful.
  17. Rule #9. Never go anywhere without a knife.
  18. There are specific slip bobber knots that you buy. they come pre-tied around a tube. then you slide them on your line and remove the tube and cinch the knot. after the knot you use a bead and then the bobber. here is a link http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Lindy-Thill-Premium-Bobber-Stops-40-Pack&i=441836
  19. I would suggest the fenwick 6'9" Med/X-fast instead. not that the avid is bad but I have 2 avids, one casting and one spinning and my only complaint is the handle. The fenwick handle is the best handle ever.
  20. I own the 7'1" current gen medium fast rod and it balances about 1/4" past the reel seat. not too bad and thats with a gen 3 revo stx.
  21. 7'11" - Heavy/Fast - Flippin 7'3" - Med-Heavy/Fast - Jigs/Carolina rig. 7'1" - Medium/Fast - Plastics 7' - Med-Heavy/Fast - Spinnerbaits 7' - Medium/Moderate - Crankbaits 6'9" - (Spinning) Medium/Extra Fast - Dropshot/Shakeyhead Thats my list because its what I have...plus about 10 other rods.
  22. Fenwick HMX, or Elitetech Smallmouth series. Or even better a Pinnacle Perfecta 7'3" MH-F
  23. Cabelas Advanced Angler Tackle Bag. 4 sizes to choose from, I chose the magnum. lots of room, check them out.
  24. I feel the same way except for one important difference. after I land fish, I prefer to repeat.
  25. I use 30lb power pro for my crankbaits. I prefer the strength and diameter, and I feel that they fat outweigh the disadvantages. In fact I use braid on most rods that use hard baits or any lure costing more than 5$ (jigs, spinnerbaits, and frogs)
