Whats A Good Cold Water Bait For Smallies?
Suspending jerkbait, in deep water and real cold water use a deep diving model. Don't neglect a tail spinner either.

Need A New Jig Rod On A Major Budget
BPS Tourney Special. A TAD bit heavy but not bad at all. It's durable, good action and sensitive too. Go with the 7' MH or if you are fishing heavy stuff with bigger bass around, a 7' H.

Curado I Initial Impressions
My next high speed reel will be a Curado I probably unless time reveals more bugs in the lineup, in which case I will be going with a Chronarch E. I wish Shimano made a Curado or Chronarch with a gear ratio lower than 5.5:1. That's just a TAD too fast for deep cranking IMO but fine for shallow cranks and spinnerbaits.

Don't Throw A Spinnerbait On A Crankbait Rod!!!
I always throw spinnerbaits on glass or composite rods and have a very high hook up rate, and I rarely use a trailer hook because I fish weed choked lakes. A use a 7' MH BPS Crankin Stick for most of my spinnerbait work, and a 7' M crankin' stick for 1/4 ounce spinnerbaits, which I use a lot for slower retrieves in shallow water.

100 Dollar Bait Caster
BPS Pro Qualifier hands down. Haven't tried the $99 Lew's Speed Spool and have never heard anything but great reviews for it. Those two are the cream of the crop for reels at $100 or under.

Front Blade On Spinnerbait Won't Spin
Terminators used to be my favorite spinnerbaits. However I've noticed their newer ones in the double willow models, the front blade (the one on the clevis) often does not spin consistently or won't spin at all. Is there any way to fix this? Say change the clevis to one that is more loose?

1/2 Oz Jigs To Large To Fish With?
I've caught 8 inchers on 3/4 ounce jigs. I prefer 1/4 ounce jigs when the water is 12 feet deep or under and conditions calm. I go heavier in deeper water, windier conditions, OR when there are times the bass WANT a fast fall rate, which they do sometimes.

1 Lure You Have No Confidence In...
Boy I can't really think of one except maybe a plain crawdad plastic without highly attractive claws. I murder them on rage craws, speed craws, paca craws and the like.

Trying A New Soft Plastic, Not That Any Of Them Work In The First Place
You don't even catch fish on senkos? I have yet to fish a plastic that doesn't catch bass at least some of the time. Many of them will catch bass most of the time.

Roboworms
I use them for drop shotting and also split shot/mojo rig type applications. The 6" fat model is great for throwing weightless on 8 pound test line on spinning gear and fished like a fluke or senko.

Crankbaits
I too have more luck on spinnerbaits than cranks, but often that's a produce of the waters I fish where there isn't as much cover to bang a crank off of which is REALLY important in crankbait fishing in triggering a strike. Not to say they don't work for bass around here because they do.

Non-Lead Jigs?
No kidding. I live in a blue state (Colorado) where the biologists here are ruled by an extremist environmentalist agenda and cannot be trusted to be honest, they have zero integrity. In fact they hate bass in most places and have actively tried to kill them in a few. However even in this crazy state they haven't tried to ban lead sinkers and jigheads yet. If they did I would be getting a rope.

Rapala Scatter Raps
They catch fish well and run true on a slow steady retrieve with a SLOW speed reel. I like them when there isn't much cover to deflect off of.
-
Crawfish Patterned Crankbaits
Work great for both largemouth and smallies, maybe a bit more so for smallies though. In areas I fish where there are no shad they are great choices.
