If I understand your question, I suspect the answer is 'not so much' As suggested above, if there's a defining characteristic, is often something other than the pads and depth - holes, humps, changes in bottom composition, paths, breaks, etc - seem to be more important than depth alone. One of my absolute favorite things about kayak fishing is getting into extremely shallow pad fields where boats can't. Big bass seem to be just as likely to be cruising in a foot of water in the lily pads as they are in four foot deep pads. Love, love, love pushing into thick fields on a calm day and just sit and and listen...and especially watch - for even very slight movements -- the bass give away their position like no other place on the lake ....unless its a carp...or bowfin....or snakehead...but, you get the picture -- getting that blow up after seeing a pad move just an inch or two and then putting a lure in there perfectly is extremely satisfying

Most I've fished are in water between 1 & 5 feet....in tidal flats, they might be 2 feet out of the water in the morning and in the afternoon, the leaves are on the surface. Deeper than about 4 feet is unusual around here, tho.

I carry Boomerang Snips around my neck and Wm Joseph Hemocuts with my tools. You don't really need both; either will do you well with any braid.

Thought this a good time to update....I've raved about Gliss on BR a few times. I do still love it for nearly all the bass fishing that I do with spinning rods. However, my bass fishing is nearly all for largemouth, always with leaders and rarely in conditions where my mainline contacts rocks. I just spent a week in North Western Ontario with 18# Gliss spooled on walleye and northern rods, using six to ten inch steel and titanium leaders. Even ten inch leaders aren't nearly long enough to prevent quick damage to Gliss in sharp, rocky conditions. Might have been the same with any sub 20# superlines, IDK. But, I probably won't be using Gliss again in northern Canadian waters unless it is with much longer leaders....I did try Gliss to 10#YZH leaders to titanium -- worked better, but while I don't mind tying leader knots for my 'normal' fishing, re-tying leaders combined with extra leaders got to be a bit more than I was willing to put up with.

I clearly haven't been paying much attention...didn't even know there was a Veritas 3.0. I agree that my MHF 2.0 seemed a bit 'stouter' than other brands...however, I have no idea if the 3.0 continues in that sense. 7'3 MHF sounds like it should be a killer all-around rod.

All of the above....and more - - soooo many variants in spinnerbait sizes, weights, depths fished, waters, etc....spinnerbait fishing 18 foot deep ledges is a lot different than targeting laydowns or docks from 15-20 feet out....and both are different from searching vast shallow stumpfields

The handle is longer than I like while seated; and those four techniques are not close to the top of my preferred fishing from the yak. Summer in a boat, however, and the rod is a must-take. ....just looked at Fitzgerald Vursa 7'6" H on TW and it says its rated to 2 oz ...(newer model?) If yours is too, disregard my TCS recommendation - it also is rated to 2 oz, so you may already have the TCS ranges covered.

Maybe. And if it doesn't happen VERY quickly, it probably won't happen. I'm no biologist, but my experiences tell me that if a dead fish isn't eaten in the first hour or so, it will likely still be floating three days from now.

Thanks for keeping it unemotional and providing the story. I think that given the holiday and a weekend in there, not to mention oversized parcel, that it's a bit early for huge concern. Would have been better if seller provided tracking number, but I suspect you are still going to be ok

Resurrecting this old thread as the product has been updated....and the price lowered.... I'd forgotten all about this since I had the same concerns as above related to bulk and cost, but just came across it again recently, and I have to say that it looks much more impressive than the old metal drum version. Trac-mountable is a huge plus, as well. Anyone have the 'newer' low-profile model? They have cut the price from 150 to 100.....Reviews? take up golf? pardon my sarcasm and cynicism, but if fishing ever becomes a chore, I'll do something else....took me over 50 years to learn, but life is too short for me to spend any of my 'free' time doing anything I don't thoroughly enjoy

Sums up my thoughts exactly. I have fished for lots of different species, but I most prefer being an active participant in a dynamic, challenging pursuit.

Stopped in to tell you that the pain will ease over time....but, then realized it would be a lie. Sorry. Mine was over a year ago. About two hours after sunset - no moon, pitch black night. The long fight had me convinced that it was either a flathead or snakehead -- it did some of each, slow, long runs straight away, interspersed with rather violent shakes. Either way, I didn't have a net and wasn't too interested in lipping it. As it got near my kayak, I was trying to control it, while readying my fishgrips and fumbling to turn on my headlamp. As the light came on, I was staring into a LMB mouth that I easily could have stuck my fist in without touching the sides...just the head out of the water, but then at that same moment, she crashed violently on the side of my yak and broke off....Easily the biggest bass I've ever seen live other than at a weigh in or in a tank. Entirely my fault -- had I even considered it might be a bass, I would have handled her much more carefully.
