9.7lb smallies caught in Lake St Clair

Recommended Posts

Can only dream of catching a fish like this.  Was posted on the Lake St Clair Network this past Sunday.  Michigan state record is 9.99lbs, so this fish was only .27lbs (or 4.3oz) off the state record.  The guy who caught the fish of course received slot of accolades from this of us on the network.  I WILL be fishing Lake St Clair this Saturday ??

Sucks he held it so close... I've seen people who say their bass went 3.9 pounds and it looked just as big as that.

Crazy how the cameras can do that.

It's legit we weighed it 4 times. I posted a better pic in my own thread with the scale pic. I hold all of my fish out like that to showcase the fish. My buddy sent me a pic of a 6.7 yesterday and it was just the worst pic. It looked like a 4lber because the camera was so far away. One thing you can never take though is the size of your knuckles. As long as that is visible along side the fishes head it's very easy to figure out the real size of any fish ;)

absolutly insane, congrats. hell of a smallie. i caught a 6.9. d**n near fainted, i could only imagine a 9er. MA state record is 8.2

6.9 is HUGE lol. This was just a freak and honestly could have happened to anybody this time of year. Though I do credit myself for spending more time on the spot and really finding the sweet stuff on it. I watched people drift right by it but it looked too juicy not to really look at it closely. Glad I did!! Crazy part is that there were tons of 5 and 6 lbers with this fish. Kinda like a school of 3's with 5lbers. It was wild!!

Not doubting the catch... Just hard to get perspective...

I get ya. Wish we could have spent more time with her but just too risky during CIR season. I thought the scale pic was plenty enough

Yes.  To the point where I'm sick of walleye.  I can only jig for so meany days in 40 degree weather LOL.  Can't wait to catch some bass, headed up to St Clair Saturday.

Within an hour you should have your limit, if it even takes that long.  Just Monday I drifted for 45mins and caught eight walleye.   No need to tip jigs with shiners anymore, river has warmed up.   Antifreeze jigs with dark paddle tail worms have been hot.

I've seen this posted a few times now... it's a great fish, but I just can't see how it's over 9lbs.  For comparison, here is a 9lb smallie.  Doesn't this fish look twice as big as the one in this post??  Considering how close it is to the camera, it can't be bigger than the one below.

I think this one is legit... Here is the article where I found it.  I should have included it before:

https://***/outdoors/bass-fishing/Article/This-932-Pound-Smallmouth-Bass-Sets-New-Michigan-State-Record-101452126/

Who knows, it could be fake too... but the fish at least looks big enough to be 9lbs and isn't held 3 inches from the camera lens.  Hey I'm not the fun police... But I've see the guy on multiple forums sharing his own photo and accepting lots of "congrats".  At that point its like come on dude.

GIANT smallie. LSC has been absolutely on FIRE from everything I've heard lately...I'm too close not to figure out how to sneak over there for a weekend soon...

Congrats to the angler that boated this bronze freak!

I can't imagine the fight a 9lb smallie would put up! Congrats to whomever has the stones to drag one of those out of the depths!

That's not at all true... I'm only 5'5" in real life. My knuckles/hands/fingers are smaller than the "average". You shouldn't be assuming using using such arbitrary assumptional measurements. You yourself said your fingers were "over an inch wide" in one of your threads which I have a hard time believing.
