World record bass
"she nosed up on it (jig)....... and (we) decided that next person would swing on it...couldn't see my jig..." IDK....sight fishing a spawning bass on the bed that you'd found her previous day....and deciding to swing even before you know if she might bite.....the video really strips the romance and mystery from bass fishing...might was well cast a purse seine and drag the lake...I was more impressed before I watched

Went smallmouth fishing on a small river yesterday, didn't have much luck. Any pointers?
http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/forum/32-smallmouth-bass-fishing/ I am not familiar with your river, but you can't go wrong fishing current breaks and holes; downriver side of rocks and laydowns, especially. When you see drop offs and holes downstream from those rocks, ledges, etc., fish them especially hard.

Anyone Hit The Occoquan Reservoir Lately?
Spent most of Friday trolling down out of Fountainhead. One short fish up until 5:30 PM when someone flicked a switch. Last hour on the water was good - quite a few; all on 7 in worms flipped towards cover and/or dragged slowly down ledges. Crazy the way it went from dead to great.

Black/blue jigs.
Is there another color?

Your Best Piece of Smallmouth Advice (vs. Largemouth)
Check the lure weight rating on the rod. Not gospel, but decent enough starting point to guide you. Smaller raps almost need a rod rated down to 1/16 oz. I do have a one pretty whippy spinning rod rated at 1/8 oz that will toss them, but it isn't ideal. I'd never put 12 lb test on it unless it was braid or gliss. Don't give up on those little raps. Once you have right rig, you may find they'll catch fish (most any sort) when nothing else will.

Your Best Piece of Smallmouth Advice (vs. Largemouth)
Probably more about the rod than the test. However, 'only using 12lb test' raised my eyebrows, as well. What specific crankbait are you trying to throw? For example, a 2 inch Rapala only weighs about an eighth of an ounce and cannot be casted by any baitcaster in my inventory. However, on a light spinning rod with 6 lb Yo-Zuri, I can fling it a good distance.

First real tournament against some really good sticks
Sonny, I know of nobody with better attitude and temperament for this opportunity. You've worked hard on getting better and I don't ever see you yielding to 'pressure' of a tournament. You'll do well, I'm positive.

Heron
As I said, I am clear that heron indicates baitfish near. However, I don't think bass are oblivious to their presence. I suspect the mood is affected when there's a large bird of prey hanging out on a laydown branch overhead

I feel the same way about Hydrowave (your money goodbye)....but I don't think there's an Elite Pro without one anymore.

using copolymer and flouro for first time and need help
I know there's a lot of love for P-Line, but I had exact same experience with 8#. Any knot...thoroughly slobbered....carefully tied...palomar, SDJ, improved clinch...no matter. Maybe I got a bad spool, but even when I was particularly gentle cinching the knot, I could break it with what I was certain was extremely little force. I thought it was YZ karma penalizing me for straying....hasn't happened again...promise

Welcome! Take a look here. Afraid the thread is a bit comatose, but there's a lot of places discussed. Dave

Everything one would want in a bass boat
On a 'related' note, some women I've fished with would insist on a baitwell-size livewell. Has come in quite handy while never using live bait.

Is the mama one of the three pictured on their site (craw, swimbait, beaver?)- Heron
Not the @Heron kind... When working shallow cover and running shoreline, do you skip laydowns and lengths of shore that have heron there? Certainly, what attracts heron will also attract bass, but I tend to skip cover that has herons on (or very recently departed.) I suspect that even larger bass that needn't worry about a bird will be wary or scarce. I've even been known to run ahead to move a heron off so I could go back and work towards the laydown without that 'threat' there. If you buy into the theory that heron will 'kill' a spot, how long after the bird takes off do you figure it takes to become 'fertile'? A couple minutes? 10?- Need help finding Baby Mama

One more thing to try is to tune your cranks to run into the ledges and drops. If casting to your right, bend the eye to the left and run your crank into the rocky drops as it comes back to you.- Highest Quality Rod for the Best price
