I like Bobby's shakey heads and while they will certainly stand a worm up, I suspect the one he's using is elaztech - maybe SK or ZMan finesse...that tail doesn't droop at all like a Zoom would

Got back to Hunting Run for first time this year on Sunday. I'd always rented their boats in the past, but this time, my wife and I were in kayaks. I have a sonar; wife does not. While she often out-fishes me, she was skunked, while I had one of my better days there. Thanks, @Wayne P. for all your help over the years -- I have learned a lot and applied a lot of it this weekend. I even found a brush pile with my electronics The larger fish were a pretty even split: ned rig and cranking. I never had much luck with hard baits at HR in the past, but the water was calm and it was very easy to find the feeding frenzies -- casting a crank past and through the boils was a blast. The ned fish were much more boring, but fairly reliable. All those over 2# were at or near the bottom in 11-16 feet of water. Not one fish from either of us outside those two conditions, however; plastic on the bottom in about 15', or cranking through boils

Yeah....finesse was never my strong suit...I'm more of a crank and wind kinda guy

Disclaimer, I'm a YZ fan, so I risk sounding apologetic....but I've mitigated two of the bigger TT knocks; price and manageability. Buying 600yd spools takes it down from .04/yd to .02/yd. That would bring that price rating up....a lot. And I use KVD L&L fairly religiously. Sometimes I think KVD L&L was made especially for YZ hybrid....it is a match made in heaven

Scraping the concrete with a cast isn't the same thing as putting a lure alongside the concrete at the middle and bottom. Current, wind blown line, pendulum swing, boat movement....all can negatively affect where your lure ends up. The advice above from Scott F is solid. If actually fishing the pylons, I'd first be trying jig, shaky head, ned...something along those lines.

I suggest you try Yo-Zuri Hybrid. For any single application, there is a better line. But, if you want to buy one or two spools of relatively cheap line that will do everything well, I think you could do far worse than Yo-Zuri. Depending on your setup(s), you might choose from 6 to 15 pound test. Or, maybe one spool of 8 or 12. As @Scott F said, give us some more info of what type of fishing you'll be doing and what rod/reel you're using.

Was in the yak yesterday with just one MH rod, which had a frog tied on. So I threw a smallish chatterbait on a M. Missed a lot more than I landed; and far more than I ever missed with that MH. Never again for me.

Have you validated this assumption? My wife had zero interest in kayaks when I got mine.....a year later, I talked her into going to rent one for an afternoon. By noon the next day we were kayak shopping for her. A week later, she needed cross bars and racks for her car so she wouldn't have to wait for me to be along. Every single time out she STILL tells me how much she loves her yak.

Love the spider heads - I use trick-type worms generally; anywhere from four to 8 inch. These swim great and they come through weeds as well or better than just about any other head or weight.

Not adding anything...just validating some of what's been written above: I have a Veritas 2.0 MH 7' . Over a year of heavy use for jigs, frogs, spinnerbaits, and more. I found it be on the H side of MH. I lost the insert on the tip....BUT, I fully admit that I was abusing it at the time. Despite its faults, it is probably in the yak or on deck more of the time than any other rod I own.

Lead with a hook. Anything plastic attached. Put it on the bottom and leave it...or move it. Not trying to be flip, but it doesn't get much simpler than shaky head. There's tons of more specific fine tuning, but doesn't have to be. I tend to have best luck with thinner worms (trick, drop shot types, etc.) or smaller profile craws....but it doesn't much matter a lot of days.

I've gained a lot of confidence in chatterbaits this year (thanks in no small part to @Bluebasser86 ). I have had success with spinnerbaits for years. I'm starting to get a little set in my ways, though, and in my mind, I've narrowed the conditions that cause me to reach for either; both work well for me pulled across sunken laydowns; if I'm fishing well defined grass edges and there's a good ripple on the surface, I'm going to tie on a spinnerbait. If there's bass in <5 feet of water that has grass within 3 feet of the surface, I'm going to reach for a chatterbait first and pull it over the top. Shallowish stump fields beg for a spinner bait. Of course, there's lots more great situations for both, but those conditions have me reaching for them before other lures, generally.
