I was fishing thick grass this weekend, but required a finesse-y presentation. I was quite glad I had some 1/16 tungsten bullet weights along. They made a huge difference coming through the grass (over the lead. Actually, spider heads were better than both, but ran through the few I had too quickly.)

Any of you NOVA bank fishermen try the 'ponds' at intersection of Prince William Pkwy and 28? Looks like big retention pond, but I used to see people fishing it/them often....not so much last few times driving by, though.

Was on Jones last four days. Fri was awesome numbers, but only 3 over 3#. Sat was fewer, but a couple bigger ones. Sun and Mon were a bit slow. I'm a crank&wind kinda bass fisherman, but they just weren't having any of that. One 3# on a spinnerbait, 4 hook-ups and losses on lipless and zero hits on crankbaits....all weekend. Fish are already in an August state of mind; 12-14' deep and sitting still. Dead-sticking and short-hopping trick worms was the ticket all weekend. Good popper action around sundown, however.

Columbia zip offs that always stay zipped. With Columbia PFG long sleeved hoodie. The older I get, the more SPF-ified I get. Sun screen slathered on any remaining exposed skin. I can't say enough about nylon fishing pants that dry almost immediately... in the yak or in the boat. The SPF hoodies are also fantastic - was out in 90+ degree days thrice this weekend and never once thought the long sleeves or long pants were a bad idea

Long ago, I used to think that I needed a two piece rod.

After a lot of research for my wife, we headed to the shop armed with 4 or 5 models to look at. We left with a Perception Tribe 9.5, which wasn't on that list. However, after a couple months, she absolutely loves it.

That Sienna is a rock - $20 is insane. I highly doubt you'll find another reel under $40 that will last as long as the Sienna

I've bought a number of 'combos' over the years. I don't think you should restrict yourself to a combo. Possibility of saving a couple of bucks...however, you greatly limit your choices. I suggest you consider 'separates', as well.

I've read 1/16, but I've always been more comfortable around 1/8...so, I guess I never noticed a problem with my Tatulas. 1/8 is fine....especially if it feels like it works better for you. As to whether you should remove any line, I guess I wouldn't worry about it. Probably isn't affecting casting and I can't see how it can hurt you any when reeling

I have both (Lews is previous gen, tho.) Of the two, I prefer the Lews by a pretty wide margin. My Orra has served me well, but needed repair after season and a half. And even with good cleaning and repaired part(s), the Lews is better, IMHO. I also have a few Tatulas (R and base) and I much prefer them to either the Lews or the Orra SX

Influenced in no small part by posts above, we went to REI and got a Hullavator shortly after I asked here. Between the new crossbars and the Hullavator itself, it cost more than I would have liked to spend. And...installation was a bit of a PITA. However, after a month of use, I can report that we are VERY happy with this purchase. Works perfectly and my wife can load/unload by herself any time now.

If you single-hook hammer-handles, the easiest way is to grasp the shank of the hook with your long-nosed pliers and turn the hook up. You can have that fish off the hook and back in the water in a couple seconds. Doesn't appear to do any harm to the fish at all and gets them off and back to the deep very quickly. I wouldn't do it if hook is any deeper than mouth area, however.
