What kind of line are you tying? I only use palomar for braid. I have used improved clinch for 40 years for mono and fluoro, but I have lost confidence in it this year and am switching to San Diego jam. Now.

I do fine with the anchor in the OP, but I don't use it as much as I probably should. I love my trolley and the anchor is fine....but I need a better system of stowing it between uses. I wedge it behind/beside my seat, but either the anchor or the cord seems to always be getting in my way. I saw a guy the other day with a piece of pvc sticking out of a flush rod holder and he stowed his anchor upside down in the pvc -- worked for him, so maybe I'll look for something like that to attache to my crate -- like a rod tube, but larger diameter. As to length of line, I don't know that anyone has done a decent study for kayaks. The 7-1 ratio, I'd bet, comes from ships that use chains -- the chain lays on the bottom and does all/most of the 'holding'...not so much the anchor. If you put out 70 foot of paracord when anchored in 10 foot of water, you're going to swing an awful wide arc - far from where you tried to stop. I doubt I've put out more than 20 foot of anchor rope in ten foot of water. Also, the steeper your rope, the more likely you are to drag anchor. But for me, if I need to put so much line out to get anywhere near 7:1, then I'm in trouble. I anchor to work a spot with a bit of precision. 7 to 1 on a pivot is going to be the exact opposite of precision.

I bought a Skeet spinning combo at DSG on sale a couple years ago. The reel is junk, but I like the rod.

Nobody bothered to tell my grandfather that he needed a seven and a half foot rod to catch bass. His rods all fit in the trunk, also. He didn't have to buy a full size SUV like I did just to cart around all his gear. Then again he did drive a massive Oldsmobile, so maybe he could have fit my rods in that trunk. Additionally, his casting rods were steel. Casting a 7 ft steel rod all day would probably be a little exhausting.

I'd bet carp, also. But, I'll sheepishly admit that I spent a half hour one night working a small cove chasing a big splash....before the danged beaver came back an slapped the water a few yards behind me.....bout scared the carp out of me

Not a dumb question at all! I ask myself lots of much dumber questions while I'm fishing. That's one that's certainly on the list....and you know, not exactly same question, but especially when I see a dying shad or bluegill, I rarely catch a bass in the immediate area. That said, I expect @Bluebasser86 is correct and I still fish the log. I think we need a thread about dumb questions we ask ourselves about what bass do or think while we're fishing...my mind goes to some crazy places when fishing alone

sounds like quite a day, A. I bought an anchor and rope at Walmart and keep it in the car for when I rent from Fountainhead or Lake Ridge. I've seen some big bass in O, but none as big as my torso...then again, my torso has gotten a lot bigger the last couple years. Are you sure you weren't seeing carp? Nine foot rod is probably a little overkill for bass....but, then again, maybe not if you're getting towed around the rez by them. I got towed around by a 35 or 40 pound catfish a couple weeks ago and didn't lose it using 12 pound test and a 7'1" medium rod.

And...so what is the problem again? Now...if you DON'T have room to pack it....well, then you clearly would just need a bigger car. I have a Durango....but, its replacement may be an Excursion...problem averted

I assume the OP is talking about onboard chargers, but I guess he may be looking at both/either. I've delayed this severance as long as I could, but I am completely done with Minn Kota's portable chargers. My first lasted 3 years and I was satisfied enough to replace it with Minn Kota. The new MK (110) died in first couple months. MK was great about replacing it promptly, but I was without on a fishing weekend and that was disappointing. However, things went from bad to worse...the new replacement would overheat and shut off whenever I charged my size 29. I could get about 3 hours before it shut down and I had to unplug and wait for it to cool and start again. PITA! MK customer service was great and replaced that one, but the next new one did the same thing. If I placed the charger over air conditioning vent or in front of a fan, I could get a full charge, but when it finally died a couple weeks ago, I tossed it - even though it was still under warranty. I've gotten a NOCO Genius from Amazon and so far, so good.

Raul, I saw you over by the Bait Monkey thread...apparently you weren't paying attention. All of them, of course.

95% of the time, I take four; nearly always 3 baitcasters and one spinning. I nearly always have one MHF and one MM. I evaluate the expected conditions and then try to maximize my chances within the techniques that I expect to work in those conditions. Flexibility is good. Given two relatively equal rods, I'll take the shorter handled one in the kayak. I LOVE my top jig rod, but honestly, I've got shorter handled MHF rods that, for me, better suit working from seated position on the kayak. So, flexibility of range of techniques and handle length are key, for me.

Type R with more bearings - and only $110 at the moment - sounds like a steal. I got my newest Type R from ebay for $120 and thought I got a deal....

I agree with @d-camarena re Yo-Zuri. I have 15# but only use it as leader for heavier carolina, a-rig, swim baits, big cranks, etc. If you are targeting 15# 'non-braided' line, for your jig-and-worm rod, then 12# Yo-Zuri is probably going to suit you just fine. (Or even 8#, if you don't hit a lot of heavy laydowns and most of your jigs are under 3/4oz.) In fact, I've simplified my line choices greatly by going with 8# and 12# YZ and 15 and 40 pound braid. I'm comfortable in every application I encounter. I've no doubt that I could probably do somewhat better in any one application, but I'm done with the days of spooling 12 different lines.

Unless you're sponsored, I don't know why, either. I could almost understand if you've tried MANY different brands and were swept away by one...but then, you wouldn't be asking for brand suggestions. I love that I have 10 (or more?) different brands of rods. I've learned a lot more about rods than I ever would have if I'd only stuck with one. And, even with those experiences, if I had a fire and lost everything and had to start from scratch, I'd still end up with at least 4 or 5 different brands...maybe more.
