  3. I was on hand for the event. I made a post about it in the My Tournament or Outing section. It was a pretty cool tourney
  4. Catt, Randall, Rolo. These guys know fish Burley and Jimzee. These guys think like me. Alpster, Sam. Both of these guys have gone out of their way to do something nice for me. I would like to take them out and try and return the favor. Mattlures I would like some of his sight fishing secrets Redline Go out catch some stripers, get him drunk, make off with his gear ;D LBH Always wanted to meet a skiing hobbit. Matt Fly He can show me how to properly fish a Storm. Avid I have a hard time finding people more coarse and offensive than me, Avid might be able to do it. RW Because he's blunt, and I like that. Most everyone else. Except for the 10 or so that I can't stand.
  5. Yeah RW, some guys did and somebody got a 7 on a jig. Since this will be a series there were many small fish weighed in just so the guys could get some points.
  6. Can't even fish it front of other people, sorry!
  7. I was scheduled to go to Reno this weekend and with the giant storm we had coming in, I knew that getting over Donner Pass and back would be a nightmare, so I took my buddy Steve up on an offer to go down to the tournament for free. Sweet! I brought all my gear so we could fish at a different lake the day after the event. I left home at 10 AM and after a 1.5 hr detour around the grapevine, we arrived a little after 8:30. Yep ten and a half hour drive. After some killer mexican food we got to the hotel. I had 4 good friends fishing this thing. Got to bed at 11 and was up at 2:45AM . This was a tournament of a bunch of the top big fish sticks in California. 1 fish limit, winner take all, 50 individual fishermen. The weather was crazy 30MPH winds, punishing hail, and rain so intense I couldn't hear anything else when I had my hood up! I saw on the news that night that this one storm dropped more rain on southern california than they received in all of 2007 After all the boats finally got launched I just hung out and BS'ed and help the TD's setup. I ended up talking to a legend down there who has been swimbaiting lake casitas since the 80's! We ended up going out and fishing the marina ( so as not to beat up the competitors water) and fished for a couple hours. NO fish or anything but it was really cool fishing with one of the OG's and checking out some of his baits. I also found myself talking to a charming lady from texas and we talked about fish aging and biology. All of a sudden it hit me. It was Lane! Creator and owner of the Please Release Me product line and BassResource.com sponsor! After 8 punishing hours everyone made it back. My buddy Matt had to weigh in early to to boat troubles. The win ended up going to a NorCal guy who caught a 10.52 pounder on a 12" Castaic. The bite was absolutely brutal and most of the field blanked and there were a handful of 5's and 7's. Even Butch Brown who has 850+ fish over 10lbs (none of which are bed fish!) didn't get bit despite having caught a 12lber on the last day of pre fish. Sat around the diner table and bs'ed with Byron Velvick which was kind of cool too I guess. I got a ton of respect for those guys that went out there and went big all day in horrible conditions. They still went on stage in front of the cameras with their chins up, proud of their effort. Much Respect! Ended up meeting a ton of the guys that inspired me and a ton of people that were just plain cool. Left the event with some new friends and a couple hundred dollars worth of baits including an A W E S O M E prototype hardbait. Went back to the hotel cold and hurtin and drank a sixer. Woke up the next morning, fished my butt off, got one bite, missed her, and drove 8hrs home with a trailer that had all the leaves of its leaf springs broken on one side. I'm wiped out, but it was a blast. I intend to fish the next HBC event at Clear Lake in July. Congrats Don! That belt is SICK up close!
  8. a jig. there is no point to throwing tiny swimbaits IMO
  9. To the guys that know what I'm about, THANKS! About the line tie, the eye itself is a stainless steel screw eye . The mouth is anchored with a stainless steel pin that goes from cheek to cheek. I watched this bait fly out of a stick that it was hung up in and whack the side of the boat at about 60 miles an hour. not a scratch. that is the reason i pump Mickey's baits. they are straight bullet proof, whack fish, and look pretty ;D I praise the things I like just as much as I bash the things that I don't.
  10. not a thing. you wanna say something?
  11. Hasn't announced it yet. My guess is $150
  12. Check this bait out. Its a bad mother! It is a floating bait. At rest the mouth is open and when you reel or twitch the bait the mouth closes. This bait looks awesome in the water! I want one!
  13. Just because they are cheap isn't why I'm saying not to throw them. As a matter of fact, nowhere did I say that you shoulf be throwing the real expensive baits. Like I mentioned, I will throw the River2Sea Bottomwalker, LA Slider, and Fish traps. Those are all very inexpensive baits. Storms are just crappy baits. I don't have to buy any new baits, I already have a couple hundred sitting around. I am pretty d* sure I do not need someone like you telling me about my priorities.
  14. Bobby's Perfect Frog. Never really cared for the toads.
  15. Randall have you tried the Bottomwalker? That is a quality, head heavy bait that I really like. Pretty cheap too. Some of them have a fiber weedguard. I usually take it off, but sometimes it comes in real handy.
  16. I don't know the answer to your spawning question, but last year my buddy caught a 12lb14oz fish and released it 3 miles from where he caught it. 3 weeks later he caught THE SAME fish not more than 100 yards from where he had caught it previously. That fish found its way home across 3miles of 200ft deep open water.
  17. I am pretty sure Randall and Senko77 throw them. Ask LBH, just cuz you throw "value priced" baits doesnt make you an idiot.....acting like an idiot makes you one. : Randall throws the kicktail, that is a different bait. I don't care what senko throws. I don't have to ask LBH, he posts something along those lines twice a day. I didn't call anyone an idiot. But you did. Way to go big guy.
  18. the only time when the storms are the proper bait for largemouth are when you are too cheap/broke. I'm broke as a joke, but you won't find me throwing those turds.
  19. I run a 2000 Chevy with the 5.3. I am running a cold air intake with a hypertech power programmer and a mild exhaust. With 35 inch tires, I get can get 17mpg@90MPH not towing. Towing I get around 12MPG@60MPH
  20. Well, in that case I am now accepting campaign contributions ;D yeah I would WAAAAAY rather have a slammer, but even the 7" was listed at 35 from TW and everyone gets all bent out of shape when you recomend something outside the price range.
  21. Listen to Randall. I have taken dumps that are worth more money than the Castaic Rock Hard and LC. $30 hardbait? well, thats kind of tough, but one of THESE Wouldn't be too bad.
  22. Huddleston, 3:16, Mattlures
  23. RIGHT F*&$&^$ ON BRO! I'm stoked for you man! You came back into the game in STYLE! We need to get out soon, I'll let you know how tomorrow goes. Guys, this is one of my best friends and he has been on a fishing hiatus until this trip. This fish was well deserved! I was on the camera for that picture in his avatar. We had twin 9lbers that day 8-)
  24. Well with you as a local I'm sure the beavers are safe. As a matter of fact I bet there isn't a beaver within 100 miles of you that is in much danger of being stuck ;D
