Mattlures and the 3:16 Mission Fish are the only baits mentioned that I would use!

I have the large sidewinder. You are right it does look pretty killer when it is kicking properly. My bait has couple EXTRA ounces of lead in it now. No joke I spent sooo much time nail weighting it, trying to get it to run well, and frankly it just never happened. That bait was way ahead of its time. There weren't any lipless flat tailed baits that swam. I love the company, and I just bought their newest bait, but the sidewinder just sits in a box in my closet. If you can nail weight it and tune it though, I have NO DOUBT that you'll catch fish on it. Jay

I'm gonna be in seaside oregon for a week at the end of june. What is the smallmouth fishing like on the columbia around there. I can travel up river a little if need be, but not too far, and I will be stuck on shore most likely, although i might take an inflatable pontoon w/ trolling motor. I'm trying to figure out any fishing prospects around there at that time of year. Any help, even other species will be greatly appreciated. But I got a yearning for them chunky smallies! Does that mean that there is a time and place for mixing man made noise and natural sound then? I think that forcing OTHERS to endure your man made noise while they are trying to enjoy nature is VERY UNCOOL! But music makes me happy and so does fishing. Chocolate Chip cookies are awesome in their own right, but throw in a glass of milk and it gets even better!

Go for the medium for sure. I use a medium action rod, and alot of the time, I feel that it might just be a little too much rod. Sometimes I wish for a medium light. The power you gain with a medium heavy would be a moot point if you are using the 6 or 8 pound test that is typical for dropshotting. You would not be able to apply any of the extra force that a mh affords you with the lighter lines anyway. Crucials are sweet rods!

I've heard you mention them before, use a bull shot weight. 1/8-1/4 they will probably even be THE MOST weedless, due to lack of metal hardware to catch on weeds. I use them in the rocks and they get hung fairly easy, but since you just crimp them on lightly, they slide right off and are much less expensive than dropshot specific weights.

Honestly I think you should stay where you are at or go to 8lb Evolution. A properly set drag and vigilance over your line's condition should be your focus, but you already knew that

If I can get my 7'11" swimbait rods into my girlfriends Honda CRX, you should be able to sneak a 1 piece worm rod into a saturn! I have one rod that is 2 piece, but it is 9'6" so whats a guy to do... Your two pieces will probably carry you through just fine
