  1. Can you speak to this a bit more? How so? Genuinely curious since glass rods seem rather polarizing.
  2. Why is it that your smile in that pic is bigger than your smile in any of your DD pics? I'm amazed you were actually able to lip that beast!
  3. You've likely already caught more fish over 5 than I'll catch all year. Having 3 kids under 4 puts a crimp in my fishin' time
  4. Or perhaps because there are no witnesses to tell us the real size of the fish? Hehe... Most of the time, I fish with my father in law. I can say it has helped us get a clue on the water quicker, as often times he's throwing something I never would have considered for that situation. It's also helpful to have some help loading and unloading the boat. But with that said, I have no issue going alone. I just get a bit apprehensive about who's gonna take the picture of the PB I'm gonna catch that day. Hehe...
  5. In the past, I've thrown full-sized Super Flukes on my Dobyns 683c with 12 lb fluoro. I've had an odd fascincation with spinning rigs the last few months so I picked up a Kistler KLX 6'9" MF spinning rod with Stradic FJ 2500/10lb braid which will see Fluke duty this spring. Looking at the rod specs online, I was hesitant as it was rated for 1/8 - 1/2 oz, but Trey Kistler assured me that the rod is a bit beefier than the rating would lead you to believe. Based on my playing with the rod in the basement, he appears to be right and I'm looking forward to fishing this rig.
  6. To translate to something that may hit a little closer to home for you, perhaps we can consider a chatterbait to be interchangeable with a Scrounga' Would you agree? Seems to be just about an identical principle, with the key difference I see is that the Scrounga head is fixed (and therefore the bait body moves) vs the Chatterbait where the blade is the part in motion. Yes, Brett Hite has won a few more $$$ throwing a chatterbait than I have, but I don't throw it enough to justify a rig dedicated to that technique. When I've thrown it, my spinnerbait rod did the job so I just assume not try to overcomplicate things.
  7. Same rod I use for equally weighted spinnerbaits, MH/F What's the pro logic for MM or MHM? Do they say the same for spinnerbaits?
  8. Agree with the suggestions to go lighter with the fluoro on the spinning reels. In all likelihood, it will not be easy to manage. In general, I agree with 8lb being the heaviest fluoro suggested on a 2500 size spinning reel. I'd even go one step further and recommend you shop by line thickness. I'd recommend staying UNDER .010 inches of line diameter for fluoro on 2500 size spinning reels. For example, Seaguar Invisx 8lb fluoro has diameter of 0.009 inches and manages well on my Stradic 2500. Berkley Trilene 100% Fluoro 8lb test has a diameter of .011 inches, and is significantly more difficult to manage on the same reel even though it's the same labeled line strength as the Invisx. Just noticed one more comment...I'd recommend you stay away from fluoro on topwaters. SInce fluoro sinks, you're not likely to get the desired action out of popping and walking topwater baits.
  9. Yea, yea, yea... Was trying to make myself feel better. Didn't work
  10. Sorry Mr. Hottle, but those aren't DDs HA!
  11. No. Thanks for reminding me.
  12. I've got a gen 1 Zillion 6'9" MH/XF rod I'm looking to get rid of if you're interested...
  13. Gammies. Used to use the EWGs but I find myself reaching for the offset roundbend these days.
  14. Two 8.5ers both came on a mag fluke, watermelon red.
  15. These things have intrigued me lately. Do you guys fish them like shakey-heads/t-rig plastics, or do you chuck & wind?
  16. Do you deliver?
  17. And some real classes
  18. For those of you who use backing to defray the costs of higher-end line, how many uses do you get out of a 200 yd spool of high-end line? Three @ ~65 yards each? Four @ ~50 yards each?
  19. I moved to Marietta ~2 years ago but unfortunately haven't found much in the way of small pond fishing. I recommend you try one of the lakes I mentioned as they're all ~1 hr drive from Marietta.
  20. This guy right here! My folks are retired in Hilton Head SC so I fish the marshes for reds and trout every chance I get. Snook have eluded me so far on a few trips to Florida, one of which was after that freeze in FL, which took quite a toll on the snook population. It's killing me that I haven't knocked that one off my bucket list yet.
  21. Stick jackets work fine but I moved to Rod Socks. That tapered tip makes getting rods into rod lockers MUCH easier
  22. Wasn't sure if this was best suited in this section or the rods/reels/line section, so mods feel free to move if you do desire. What's the lightest line you guys use for super fluke fishing? Generally I use 12 lb fluoro on baitcasting gear but now I'm currently in the midst of an infatuation with spinning gear. Anyone throw these things on 10lb braid?
