Outboard wiring harness
I haven’t pulled the switch yet. Just pulled the clusters out of the console and checked under the engine cover once I realized the melted wire had continuity to the neg battery cable to the outboard. It is melted at the plug on the engine though to an extent so I’d imagine it is at the switch as well. I think I’m getting what you’re saying. The furthest point of damage away from the ground source is gonna be, or be right at the issue right? Makes sense. I’m hoping end of the line is in the console but I’m thinking that ground may daisy chain through the dash then head to the bow panel. I’ll have to keep tracing. Thanks for the direction. Thanks again.

Outboard wiring harness
Thank you! I “accidentally” found the melted insulation when I pulled part of the cluster to blow water out of the water pressure gauge line. I had just run the outboard on the hose and didn’t notice any issues but I wasn’t looking for them I suppose. I disconnected the ground leads from the batt at that time. I’m not showing any continuity from the ground wire that is damaged to +bat (all grounds disconnected at battery) but I didn’t check from the damaged wire to battery ground for voltage. The majority of damage seems to be on the ground wires at some of the gauges. Worst of it at the tach ground stud. Even melted some of the back of the gauge. I’ll try to attach a pic. I think I might be able to borrow one of those circuit tracers. I appreciate your help.

Outboard wiring harness
98 Stratos boat, 97 Johnson 225 outboard late 90s models. Does anyone off the top of their head know what is grounded off the ground wire coming from the outboard headed to the console/ignition switch? I have some wiring diagrams but they’re kind of vague regarding that. The ground wire had melted insulation behind the console throughout as well as at the plug on the side of the outboard. Just trying to figure out what is going where right now. Anything that will help me shorten the troubleshooting process is appreciated. Im thinking it handles instruments and instrument lighting only given how small it is. Also, do you guys think I should be looking more for a short somewhere or a weak connection. What connections I’ve accessed so far look and test good but I’ve actually never dealt with a situation where the wire is damaged along an extended length. Thanks.

Releasing and thumbing the spool while fighting fish
Ive always done it but only in specific instances. It has worked well for me. For me it’s always when the fish gets close to the boat, makes a hard pull, and I don’t have much line out. I’m not sure if it’s necessary but I figure if it ain’t broke...

Big Fire: Wish Me Luck
Glad you were able to move to safety. I hope the wind is favorable for your home. You’re in my thoughts.

Another Boat!
That sounds like a heck of a deal for someone. I would think the outboard alone is worth that. Whether or not it’s gotten the way2slow treatment, it’s no doubt been well maintained and with the updates I’d imagine is gonna be dependable. I hate that your having issues with your thumb post surgery. Hopefully that improves. I hope you enjoy the new boat. I have a couple buddies with pontoons and they absolutely love them.

Another Boat!
Dang it! I kind of thought that was gonna be the answer to that question. Fuel economy is attractive for sure for a lot of folks. If middle Georgia is anything like central KY I’d say you’ll have no problem moving it right now. Do you have it listed anywhere online yet?

Another Boat!
That’s a great deal for sure. You’ve earned it though with as many folks as you’ve helped on here and in person. Does the Jav come with one of the way2slow modified outboards?

Can't understand why people insist on running bad motor
That’s good advice and a good reminder. I’m not gonna lie and say I’ve never run anything when it wasn’t running quite right. Not an outboard, but years ago I was out on the farm on a four wheeler. This on was a 400 2-stroke. There’s no telling how many miles I had put on this thing over the years. Heading down the back hill the pinging that you hear in those 2stroke bike engines changed in pitch. Just a little bit, but enough I noticed. Laid off of it a bit but kept on riding. About the time I got to the very back of the farm I noticed the high temp light on. It was probably on earlier, it’s kind of hard to see while you’re riding. I hit the brakes and turned the switch off. The thing kept right on running. Pulled the key, still running. Pulled the choke and that finally killed it. Up to that point I didn’t even know that running without an ignition system was a possibility. The inlet to the water pump is a pressed in fitting. It had blown out somewhere on the way out there. It could’ve been worse but I did warp the head. If I had stopped when I knew something was off I would’ve seen that as soon as I stepped off and been out some time, a fitting, and some coolant. When it was all said and done I was still out that stuff plus dealing with a warped head.

New Puppy ~
Congrats on the new addition to the family! Glad she found a solid home. Sounds like you guys are very responsible dog owners.

First tournament
Congrats on getting the first one under your belt! They can be a lot of fun. Make sure it always stays fun. They’ve helped me become a more well rounded fisherman I think. There have been days and places I wouldn’t have fished if not for a tournament. Conditions as well that I would’ve otherwise avoided. I’ve learned a lot that I really don’t think I would have otherwise, most of that by failure. They can take you out of your comfort zone which can be a good thing. Best of luck in your next one!

Camera
I have an aftermarket camera back there. Not specifically for backing the boat in. My buddy bought several cameras on sale a few years ago and gave me one as my truck is old enough not to have one factory. It’s handy for lining up the ball to trailer tongue when hooking up. I use my side mirrors when backing a trailer though. The camera mounts to my rear bumper. I would think that at least in that location, it would be hard to see enough of the trailer to be useful for launching/loading. Maybe it could be mounted somewhere else and work for that purpose though. I think somewhere higher and closer to the cab might give you a better picture of the trailer.

About Sunline Sniper FC...
I believe it’s technically the Swindle Double Shindo over the creek beside the barn foothold knot. I have Sniper fc on several setups. I haven’t had any issues with knots. Typically I tie Palomar or what I’ve always called the Trilene knot.

Question about selling
I would probably just stick with it’s not available till the end of September. I would maybe update any current ads to indicate a specific date. After sept 30th or whatever. First come first serve. I don’t think I’d fool with a deposit although, I have seen that work out on a few occasions. If first come is a Thursday that couldn’t make it till Saturday I’d maybe hold it that long but that would just be a gut feeling thing for me. I think the holding I would be willing to do is if someone was traveling a distance. Example: If I had someone coming from 3 hrs away I would let him know it was still available before he/she got on the road and wouldn’t sell it to anyone who showed up while they were traveling. They’d have first right of refusal. I try to be fair while also protecting my interests. That’s all you can do. There’s always a certain amount of risk in these types of sales. It’s a good problem though that you have multiple interested parties.

Lure color experience
Seems like sometimes the smallest difference matters. Sometimes it seems like you could put some trebles on a ball cap and catch fish. A couple years ago on one of the local lakes, the fish were all about a watermelon with red flake. You could catch them on the same lure in watermelon with blue flake but the quantity and quality of fish was significantly different.

Turning the page
I’m sorry for your pain and your loss. As slonezp said everyone grieves differently. I hope the pain of turning this page leads to some form of healing and that the next page holds good things for you. As others have said, many seats on boats that would be honored to have you. If you ever find yourself in KY you’d be welcome to a front seat on mine. You’ll continue to be in my prayers.

Reaction Innovations
The Little Dipper in white trash was an absolute rockstar for me this spring. Next tackle run I’m going to try to grab some of their other baits and give them a try. I hear nothing but good.

Low voltage on Ultrex
Any update on the situation? Curious how customer service ends up handling it.

Who uses a Jackplate on their boat? - Would you add one to your next boat?
What boat do you have? Stratos 201PE 1.) Do you use a jackplate on your boat? Yes 2.) If so, did the manufacturer, dealer, or other install it? Previous owner 3.) Is it hydraulic or manual? Hydraulic 4.) What brand and model? CMC 5.5” setback 5.) Would you use a jackplate on your next boat? Probably 6.) If you plan on putting a jackplate on your next boat would you change the brand or style such as from Bob's to Atlas and manual to hydraulic and why? It would depend on several things. I’d stick with hydraulic if I thought I was going to use it to run shallow water often. I would consider switching brands but the CMC has been ok. Just a little slow. I think the newer CMC actuators are supposed to be much faster. If I wanted it strictly for boat performance and just needed to tweak prop to pad dimension occasionally I would go manual. I think a lot of it is just personal preference and situation. It’s gonna depend on how you’re going to use it. If it’s gonna be beneficial to you to adjust on the fly then hydraulic.

That was good of you @JeffD I hope that MK takes care of you in a timely fashion the way you took care of that hs angler.

Low voltage on Ultrex
That’s a frustrating deal. I went on their parts portal and searched for 2020 ultrex parts. It showed the boards in the foot pedal unavailable currently. Could very well be a supply chain issue with everything going on right now. Could be that they got some bad boards and are trying to get that sorted and not send out potentially bad parts. Doesn’t change the fact that you’ve dropped some coin on something that should work out of the box though. It’s certainly not ideal, but if it’s still working, could you put back on the motor I’m assuming you replaced with the ultrex to get you through the tournament? You shouldn’t have to but you gotta do what you gotta do to get after those fish.

Low voltage on Ultrex
Hopefully they’ll make it right. I’ve heard generally good things about their customer service. Did you purchase it from a store where you could just exchange it given that it’s brand new and non functional?

Low voltage on Ultrex
Hopefully somebody will be along with some help. I don’t have an Ultrex so I’ve got nothing there. If MK didn’t know that it will work with the remote but not the pedal I’d hit them up again with the updated info. Sounds like you have eliminated the batteries and charger as the issue though so that’s progress.
