I used a 6'6" heavy for mucho years, in seriously hydrilla infested waters... Truthfully the whole 7'11" rod is way more trouble than it's worth in my opinion.. 7'5" is a good lenght.. A 6'6" rod is handy to me...

I agree on both statements.. But I'm stoked that we both agree on the chicken came before the egg!

Geez, idk, I can say I've had 100 fish days ( bass) on patoka lake in the early 90's. same lake, 200 bluegill, sunfish, crappie fish days.. Fly fishing on a bluegill spawning flat, I caught 40 gills in 90 minutes on a 3wt rod throwing a black ant.. But I never really counted number of casts, per se at anytime..

I've had many smaller LMB bite, peck at my jig & craw trailers.. Occasionally I loose a pincher, bigger fish seem to just inhale the jigs plain & simple like... Can't speak to rock bass.

I'm no expert, but on smallmouth bass, it's my understanding they will often bite the claws off the crayfish before fully commiting...

Part of the battle of sport fishing is confidence. If a particular style or brand exudes this.. I would just use those baits. After 40 years of this, many of my favorites have vanished, I pick something out & start fresh. Given a bit of time, I either commit to them or move on to something different. You can do the same..

With all due respect to your post. What is ethical? In your opinion...) I think at some point, folks have to come to terms that we ( people ) have very little, if any, control over the issue. I might suggest that if you really feel that strongly, perhaps you could shoot a email to the production company and the " pro's " that you witness what you believe to be a wrong doing. I've heard it said that fishing is a blood sport. I neither agree or disagree with that, to me, it's just a hobby...most bass anglers treat the fish better than at anytime in history, it is just a sport, to some, it's their living.

That sucks, sounds like they are wipping a little of that voodoo on you already.. Hope you get it resolved though.. Good luck & stay safe!

Lochloosa & Orange in Florida & many , many other lakes are tannic in color, I fish plastic worms with great success in those " coffee" stained waters.. Therefore I agree with JF in his statement as well ( worms, craws,etc make up about 75% of my fishing )

April here in South Ind. was very wet, very dry in May, but only a couple inches below normal..

They have seen it, albeit a while ago.. There use to be inflator needle bottles to do that very thing.. I used it a bit but gave up after a little experimentation.. But they do float better, so I would continue with your ideal & enjoy it!
