Love hurts. A lot of us have gone thru break ups & worse yet..divorce with children involved. Deak gives good advice in saying lay off the sauce for awhile. It's going to sting for a bit, but it can develop character & make you stronger. Hang tough.

Give up some more information about the crank baits you wanna use, are you long bombing deep divers or target casting shallow divers? Need a budget on the rod & one for the reel too. This should help a great deal on feedback..

I use a 7' Avid ML fast. Yes, it is spinning, but I love it for 1/4 Oz pop r type baits.

I can tell you first hand that Daiwa kicks out a bad reel or two. If your using other zillions, that should help you further define if it is a problem reel or not.

You really want more braking to begin.. There's a bit of difference in the braking characteristics. As you begin to develop your feel for the reel you can decrease braking. Mono is cheap to learn with. It's a easy casting reel. It's a excellent reel. You can run those brakes anyway you see fit. I usually do set them opposing one another.

That's a d**n fine reel you have. The brakes are centrifugal & not magnetic. Set 3 per instructions & practice short casting to get a feel for this reel. Use mono to practice. ( IMO ) eventually, you will realize what a great reel it really is. Shimanos get better as you use them. Good luck & congratulations on a great Christmas gift.

2 cycles are poorly designed? My 55 Yamaha is/has been nothing but stellar.. Best engine I've ever owned..
