  1. What's the difference in performance between the sv 105 and sv1000?
  2. It's not the most scientific experiment, but I just took 3 reel outside and tried each on my cr721 which is rated down to 3/16. I took a 1/8 jighead, but cut the hook off so I could cast in the yard without getting snagged. I weighed it and it was exactly 3 grams which is barely under 1/8oz. The 3 reels: pxl-r, curado 51e and scorpion xt w/avail spool. All 3 reels have abec7's. The pxl-r had 10lb power pro and it casted and pitched nicely. The curado 51e had 20lb power pro and it was more challenging and not really ideal for me. The xt w/avail had 15lb power pro and it casted/pitched nicely. I have used my 51e with a 1/8 plus 3" grub (whatever this weighs) in the past and it worked ok.
  3. dx702, phenix recon2 or m1. Still not sure yet.
  4. I have a pixzilla on a klx finesse rod and pxl-r on a imx cr721. I use 10lb. power pro, but considering yozuri hybrid this year. I also have a scorpion xt with avail spool, but no rod presently.
  5. Most ML rods rated as low as 1/8 should work.
  6. The spool is not necessary nor longer handle.
  7. Agreed. The other important part of the puzzle is a rod that rated low enough to load those weights.
  8. Agree that you might be over lubing the spool bearings. Flush them and add 1 drop and see if that helps.
  9. I just picked a couple up out of curiosity. Does anyone use these and on what rod? Do you walk the dog with them or what?
  10. The alphas ito has a lexan (plastic) side plate and front plate along with bare aluminum body. If durability was your concern it wouldn't be my first choice. I'd look at a tdz 103H or 105 which can be found for well under your price range. The steez are going usually run above your price range.
  11. I learned this the hard way. This way works perfectly every time.
  12. I say it's on the correct side . Beautiful.
  13. I've always used braid with everything. With cranking I used a glass rod and had no worries. Something's gotta give: line, rod, drag. I always heard that braid was the most sensitive on a tight/taut line so I always thought why not use the most sensitive line? Just make up for the non-stretch with the rod/drag.
  14. I used to have issues with knots slipping or breaking, but over the years I've gotten pretty good because it's never a worry anymore. If your knots are slipping you may need to wet it and cinch it better then always test it with a good tug before throwing it.
  15. My first baitcasters were bps pro qualifiers and lews speed spool variants. Then I started to develop a taste for daiwa and shimano stuff. I've since sold all of my bps and lews. My arsenal consists of some of the discontinued classics. IMO if I have $200 for a reel I'm looking for a liberto pixy or a tdz-r+ or something along those lines over a brand new reel. How about you guys?
  16. I have the same exact combo. It is a fun combo and I can't wait to get more time with it.
  17. I have this same rod and use it for a lot of different things. Great rod and handles light t rigs/jigs just fine. It also makes a great jerk bait/top water rod.
  18. My specific rod/reel would be my x7 extreme mission paired up with steez 103hla w/sv 105spool and 7.1 gear upgrade. It would handle my favorite techniques plus it's my most expensive combo, lol.
  19. I was just thinking about starting a post like this. I've wasted soooo much money learning and I still have a ways to go. I keep thinking about if I started over knowing what I know now what I'd do differently.
  20. With those size jerk baits I'd look at the fenwick 6'10" mh/mf that smalljaw mentioned. I'm a fan of klx rods too, but I must admit that I only own a finesse rod. The rod I own is a megabass xx jerkbait special and it is fantastic, but it is an expensive rod at $285. I use rod for shallow cranks, squarebills and lipless cranks as well though so it serves multiple purposes. Lots of choices for you and the guys here will give you great advice. Let us know what you decide because part of the fun here at bass resource is hearing about others experiences.
  21. I use 50 and see no need for anything heavier. Sometimes I think 50 is overkill.
