Those are sweet rods! You're going to have fun. There's just something about finesse fishing that really appeals to me and my arsenal is evolving towards it: pxl-r w/klx finesse rod, yellow pixzilla w/imx cr 721, scorpion xt (7.1 gear upgrade, avail spool) w/ no rod yet but thinking about a phenix m1, recon2 or dx 701.

It sounds like two rods (733 and 734). If you only want one rod then probably go with the 734.

What fishing gear did you get from others (not stuff you bought for yourself)? In my family, fishing stuff is what I buy for myself because no one knows what to get. So sadly, I won't get any fishing related gifts, lol. I'll live vicariously through you guys.

I sold mine because it felt dead in my hands, but it wasn't a cranking rod. I guess it would be fine for cranking though I just don't like yellow rods.

Pair it up with a ML rod and you'll have no problems.

M/F or MH/F are versatile enough to do most anything.

The px r is the better buy for sure. The airy red would need to be "pixzilla'ed" to be in it's class which would run some bucks.

Completely agree. I prefer the px over the ss sv. And yes, the sv spool in the tdz/steez are pretty awesome.

I just picked up my first klx recently and am really looking forward to catching something.

Pflueger trion ($40) and a shimano crucial I got on clearance at dsg for $65 for a total of $105. This is the cheapest combo that I actually use. I have cheaper ones that I don't use like the cabelas pro guide/shakespeare agility casting combo for $39.

I have had both. I prefer the carbonlite.

I don't like deep cranking. In fact I've decided not to do it anymore. I sold my cranking rod. The only treble hooked baits I throw now are jerk baits, squarebills, lipless and shallow cranks.

I have a couple of new baits that I really like: gycb fat ika and berkley gulp jerk shad. The jerk shad I used for flounder in south carolina. I used to use live bait for flounder, but man the jerk shad just killed them.

Why does everyone pay big bucks for pre-rapala warts? I understand they are discontinued so there is some collector value, but is there something special about how they fish?

That's one of the reasons why I like braid...never an issue with capacity.

I'm piggybacking this post off of the one on line for a new px r. Why do so many people like it vs braid/fluoro/mono? I was all set to try fluoro on my pxl r this year, but now I'm wondering what I'm missing. Up to this point I've used braid w/leader.

Ditto on the sunline sniper. I just picked up some kvd l&l so hopefully it makes it more manageable.

I use a dx 743 and tdz r+. If I'm t-rigging with weight I use a x7 extreme mission.

So far I've been happy with 10lb power pro w/ fluoro leader. This year I'm going to give straight fluoro a try again, but this time using kvd line conditioner. I want see if the slack line sensitivity is better although I don't feel like I'm missing a thing with braid/fluoro leader. We'll see...
