  1. Doesn't bother me in the least to hear a pro fisherman tout a bait of his sponsor as his goto bait. I figure these guys are good enough that in certain circumstances it can easily be a goto. In all circumstances, not a chance. If we believe goto means every circumstance, then we must be a little naive. Like Toxic says, they have to make a check. The sponsors help make it possible for them to fish.
  2. Sounds like you made the most from a difficult two days of fishing. Good fishing on KY lake. Your write ups are excellent. Almost like being in the boat with y'all.
  3. Believe I would switch the #1 rod with the #5 rod due to sensitivity. I tend to use my least sensitive rods for topwater. You mostly see the strike then feel it. Keep the jerkbaits and square bills with the Okuma rod. TRD's for me are for spinning and need a sensitive rod. Just my two cents. Edit: My bad. Just move the TRD to Spinning #1 and topwater to #5 casting.
  4. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to many more.
  5. Thanks Kenmitch for the reply. I would never have found the information on the other forum. Based on that information, it seems like your suggestion of replacing the whole assembly is the best way to go. Again thanks.
  6. The Terrova turning gears are making significantly more noise (grinding) when turning to the right vs turning to the left. Left turn sound is normal (whirring sound), like when originally purchased 12 years ago. Have searched You Tube but haven't found this particular problem addressed. Wondering if anyone on this forum has had this particular problem. 1. Do these gears require lubrication? 2. Is it likely continued use will cause an eventual breakdown? Thanks, any help is much appreciated.
  7. I sometimes use the Omega purchased for my grandson 13 years ago when I want to force myself to slow the retrieve way down. Ipt is 15 vs 24 to 29 with most of my other combos.
  8. I use a spincast reel in the cold winter time to keep my hands dry. Sometimes comfort trumps technique.
  9. My fishing is non-tournament and total c & r, mostly in dingy water. Can't see the beds most of the time. Bass are quickly reeled to boatside and released, spawn or any other time of the year. It would be nice if it was practical (it isn't) for all tournament fishing to be handled like Major League Fishing.
  10. Have used a rig like this for the twin fluke (donkey?) rig and didn't have much tangling. Actually worked quite well. If there is tangling, would think it would be exposed hooks catching on line. Tex rigged baits would not have exposed hooks. Why not try it? No extra investment.
  11. At the store where you are going to buy the foam insulation board, would they have some scraps or some way you could stand on a sample to see how much indentation you would make, and if it springs back into shape afterward?
  12. 15 lb. Fins Windtamer and KaskKing 15 lb. 4 strand braid have both worked well for me with no digging into spool line and very few wind knots. Used on 100, 200, and 300 size spools, Shimano, Pflueger, and the 100 reel an Abu. With concern regarding wind knots, for me a couple of things cause wind knots which have nothing to do with the braid. One being throwing way too hard, and the other when the line does not wind tightly back on the reel after a cast (example when "walking" a bait like a light weight spook). No knock on other braids, just personal experience.
  13. Now I've seen sweeping done for northerns and muskies, but never thought about it for LM bass. Interesting.
  14. Glenn's thread is interesting to me. Years ago when BR was much smaller, a sad fisherman started a thread. He had fishing rods, reels and other fishing stuff stolen from his vehicle while it was parked and he was fishing from his boat. He later noticed on ebay the entire lot "of his stuff" as a sale item. Could he prove it as his? Nope. As a result of this particular thread, I have never used ebay. I try to use local stores, that sell American made, then big box stores like TW, and the advertisers on BR. So it costs me a little more. Just means that this retired person will have to go to the poor house a little sooner than later.
  15. Just curious, how does using Paypal keep a person from buying stolen goods? Seems like how you pay is a little off topic.
  16. I grew up on spinning. Never used a baitcaster until age 60. I now have 5 spinning and about 12 baitcasters. In my opinion, they are all needed, based on the time of the year, conditions of the day, wind etc., the mood of the fish. Each has advantages and disadvantages as listed above. It's fun to have options.
  17. Contact them. They were very helpful, and solved my problem similar to yours.
  18. No goals. Fishing for me is strictly entertainment.
  19. Jmpo, I have used Izorline Platinum co-polymer for years. It is about the same stiffness as CXX and about the same breaking strength. Both are about equal in memory. As a main line in various diameters I would give the edge to Big Game, which has a little less memory. I don't use line conditioner except when spooling up new line.
  20. I have one of each. Per Catt, they are the same size. No difference in handling. Both good reels for the money.
  21. Was retired at 60 due to corporate merger. Loved the work. Have never missed it for a moment. Have been lucky with good health. Fish and golf and have about 2 acres of yard work in the warm months which keeps me busy enough. 18 years of retirement bliss. Thank you corporate merger.
  22. I believe y'all had fun!!! Excellent write-up.
  23. Plus MLF is the only fishing show that has the interest value to keep me awake.
  24. I like 15# Fins Windtamer to Fluoro or Mono leader. Have used Nano and Gliss.
  25. Welcome to the forum. Tight lines.
