  1. Generally a 12V deep cycle. I recommend something with 100-120 amp hours, the last thing you want to be doing while fishing is worrying about how much time you have left on the battery. A 30lb motor will be drawing roughly 30A at full power so 100 amp hours will get you a little over 3 hours. 120 amp hours will give you roughly 4 hours at full power (30A x 4 hours = 120amp hours). Can’t speak for lithium batteries as I’ve never used one.
  2. I have Furies, but not my first choice for a bottom contact rod. They excel at other things, but for a mid priced spinning rod, the Fenwick Elites are my favorite. I have a couple and they’re really nice sticks. Fenwick seems to fly under the radar, but every Fenwick I’ve owned I’ve loved, and the best rod I have is a Fenwick even though it’s far from my most expensive. They have rods of all price points and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-FENWIK.html?from=basres

  4. My physically laborious job keeps me in decent fish fighting shape. I’m trying to get more consistent about actually working out, as the older I get the more will need it.

  6. @AlabamaSpothunter Bug Eyes! Awesome fish
  7. @Pat Brown’s response took the words right out of my mouth. My thoughts exactly.
  8. First measurable snowfall looks like its finally headed to my part of upstate NY this weekend. Looks to be a 3-5 incher. Then its saying back to the high 40s early next week. Last year I didn't see a single ice shanty because the ice was too weak, and I have a feeling it will be a similar story this year.

  11. Not that I need anything, but I'll end up buying stuff all year long. I don't even try to fight it at this point. Mainly spinnerbaits and jigs, but swimbaits and poppers too. I just realized that Megabass came out with a Baby Pop X, so that'll be the first domino to fall.
  12. NYS was like this until a few years ago. Third saturday in June. Now we have a year round C&R but true open season is June 15th until December 1st.
  13. You said brother-in-law, so I'm not sure if its your sister's husband or your wife's brother, but I have had similar situations with buddies where there was a significant other behind the scenes that disapproved of things like drinking or fishing or really any time spent that didn't involve the spouse. Just an observation from what I've seen with friends of mine.
  14. Airfare to Los Mochis is surprisngly not too bad right now. Not in the cards for me in 2024, but man I gotta get back there. I have a lot of places in the world I want to fish, but as long as Baccarac exists I have a hard time believing I'll go anywhere but there. The 9-13 on the scale of my biggest bass is etched into my memory. I need a 10lb!
  15. I don’t know if it’s returned to its β€œheyday”, but Lake Baccarac appears to be fishing pretty phenomenally again according to some recent reports.
  16. DT-6 is my #1 crankbait, and all-time has accounted for more smallies for me than most other baits. Love Bluegill, Perch, and Live Pumpkinseed patterns. Sometimes you gotta bend the eye a little to get em to run true.
  17. @A-Jay well I know what I’ll be doing for the rest of the day. Thanks!
  18. I use Google Earth a lot to scope bodies of water that I may not know exist. It doesn’t show contours of course, but the NYSDEC has contour maps of a lot of the lakes in the state. I also email the DEC sometimes if a particular lake doesn’t have a topo map, they may have an unpublished topographical survey or gillnet or electro fishing survey. This can provide a lot of insight. The state environmental agencies are a good, free, and often underutilized resource for scouting bodies of water. You just may have to wait a day or several for a response.
  19. @TnRiver46 for wordle you have to guess the 5 letter word. You guess a random word and the yellow squares tell you that the letter is correct but in the wrong spot. Green squares indicate correct letter in the correct spot. Gray means the letter isn’t in the word at all. So you use those clues to guess the correct word. For connections, there are 4 categories, and 16 words. A word can only be in one category, so you have to group the words together correctly. The words will have some correlation with the other ones in that group. All the colors matched together in a row means you guessed correctly. All 4 rows with correct colors indicates a perfect score with no incorrect guesses.

  21. @Pat Brown way to go man what a nice bass to end the year on.
  22. Well that fits my timeline nicely
  23. I haven’t stayed up until midnight in years. My girlfriend is dragging me to party that friends of ours are throwing but there is a 0% chance that I will not be home sleeping long before midnight.
