  1. The “lift” caused by the blades isn’t as much of a factor the heavier you go with the spinnerbait. I typically use 3/4oz in that depth range so I can use whichever blades I like and still be able to slow roll it along bottom.
  2. @gimruis awesome dude. Doesn’t get better than that.
  3. Sometimes people just wanna catch them their own way. I’ve been in the boat with a buddy, slaying them with a spinnerbait while they struggle with a jig. I’ll tell ‘em “my spinnerbait box is open, help yourself” but they’ll keep chucking the jig to no avail.
  4. The real entitlement is from employers who think they're owed employees who are willing to work for peanuts. Saying someone should be willing to work for personal fulfillment and less money than what can be found elsewhere in order to help your own bottom line is textbook entitlement. Nobody owes anybody low-wage labor. Seeking a higher wage in a job seekers market is not entitlement.
  5. Luckily we don't have that problem around here. I've never marked water warmer than 80° fishing the northern half of NYS, even during heat waves.
  6. Love me some Brussels sprouts. Favorite way to cook them is to take a bunch of raw bacon and cut into 2 inch squares. Par-fry the bacon until there is plenty of fat in the pan, then add halved Brussels sprouts and cook until the bacon and sprouts are crispy. Add a little garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and a tiny bit of thyme. Salt isn't needed with the bacon in there.
  7. @ol'crickety just like an ace pitcher who doesn’t have his best stuff still finds ways to get batters out, a good basser will find ways to grind out a bass even when they are tight-lipped. You’re an ace.
  8. @LrgmouthShad tropical/beach is not my scene at all either. Much rather be up in the mountains in Canada than on the tropics.
  9. Never encountered an angry dock owner. Did have one guy get really excited when my buddy nailed a 2.5lber on a spook right off the corner of the dock. Didn’t even know he was there until he yelled “no way! Did you just catch that off my dock?! I didn’t know there were fish under there!”.
  10. Haven’t used Oakleys, but I love my Costas.
  11. The only way the statement “nobody wants to work anymore” is true is if there are a couple more words added onto the end of it.
  12. Agreed. And that’s probably all I’d be allow to say on this subject.
  13. Toad, tank, bruiser, beast, hawg, horse, freak, stud, mondo…I’m sure there are more that I use when I have one on the the line.

@gimruis If I double up on the omeprazole then maybe I can do 3 without choking to death lol

I’d be good for 2 in 10 minutes if I don’t want to choke to death. I don’t understand how those people don’t die.
  16. If we’re talking docks and lay downs, my favorite is a Siebert brush jig with a Netbait Paca chunk trailer.
  17. During the summer the bait that catches the largest fish consistently for me is without a doubt a spinnerbait.
  18. Is a medical doctor and a taxidermist
  19. @TnRiver46 I’ve seen cormorants on the bigger bodies of water. My first thought was possible cormorant but they flew just like loons, and when I used the binoculars they looked to be loons. I’m like 90% sure. I’ve seen loons on this lake before. But as I type, the less sure I get….
  20. Luckily, around here docks rarely hold fish except for a couple short seasonal windows.
  21. @gimruis that’s another thing I thought about. The bass spawn is wrapped up before any vegetation becomes matted here as well.
  22. At the ramp today, I had an interesting conversation with the DEC boat inspector. He was inspecting the boat for invasive aquatic weeds, namely Eurasian milfoil and hydrilla, as is standard in NYS if you’re fishing waters with these invasive weeds and he mentioned how the milfoil is really affecting the bass fishing in this particular lake. I’ve always understood that milfoil and hydrilla are bass magnets. It can be hard to fish when it mats up, but that doesn’t mean the bass don’t love the stuff. But this gentleman explained to me that because the milfoil is matting up so bad, it’s pushing the bass to spawn deeper. That deeper spawn makes the eggs non-viable in some cases, which of course would affect the bass population negatively. I had never heard of something like this happening. Sure milfoil and hydrilla can completely choke out a body go water, but I’ve never heard of that affecting the fish population negatively. The fish-ability of a lake? Sure I could see how having milfoil as thick as butter could make it hard to fish. But I still can’t wrap my head around it negatively impacting the bass population. But then again I’m no DEC biologist, just a bass head. Has anybody heard of this before? Milfoil or hydrilla reducing the population of bass? On another note, I probably should have told the inspector about all the invasive water chestnut and maidencane I saw on the water as well. Water chestnut is the actual worst.
  23. @LrgmouthShad that brass/copper willow leaf and green tomato skirt combo is killer!
