  1. Just joined! Just the two of us now MassBassin... only 45 days left to recruit.
  2. From bassresource.com main page, click "Fishing Forums" and then pick a forum. You should see an "Existing Users, Login" link in the upper-left of the page underneath the BR logo. That's how i do it at least...
  3. God bless 'em! Seriously though... 30 minutes on this forum is all it takes to see that not only are we all whores, but most of us do it for free.
  4. Best jigs $$$ can buy! And my money just bought some more. Thanks BM!
  5. Hey fellow Okies! Normanite here. Several great places to bank fish in and around town. I'm also a new member of the North OKC Bassmasters club. PM me for more details.
  6. Lol! Ok, so let's assume we're talking about pitching. Got my Curado 70 about a month ago and haven't used it a WHOLE lot... still tinkering around with the brakes. Right now, I've got a Bitsy Flip jig and small plastic chunk... guessing I'm at about 3/8oz. I've tried it with all brake settings but don't know that I've developed a preference yet. 25 ft is no problem. I still get a little backlash, but I suspect it's mostly because of the 30# flouro and cold temps. I love it so far. Plan to spool with some 25#, which should help. Have a feeling I'll be able to pitch a 1/2oz jig a quarter mile with this thing.
  7. Whoa, wait a second... winterizing your reels??? How do you go fishing?
  8. I always put a bead between my hook and weight, even if i'm flipping. It gets all squeezed together with a bobber stop.
  9. I'm generally throwing flouro. I don't worry about breaking off 25# flouro, and it excels in wood/brush which is usually what I flip. Braid is great at cutting through vegetation, but it can also have the tendency to cut into wood.
  10. Sweet setup! I'm currently retrofitting an old set of dresser drawers... not going to be that elaborate as I'm still relying on Plano boxes inside. Those drawers are the bees knees. Would be good for tools too.
  11. One of my friends called this afternoon to tell me he was forced into a tree by two pit bulls at a pond he was fishing. No cell phone, so he sat up there patiently for 45 minutes until they lost interest.
  12. I like to organize. I spent the past two weeks remodeling my garage and finally have a halfway decent fishing "workshop". I'm also the Staff Advisor to the University of Oklahoma's Fishing Team, and I just spent a lot of time working with our student anglers on a fundraising campaign we're going to roll out in a couple weeks. And of course, can't beat practicing your flipping/pitching in the back yard.
  13. There are many more things to consider when fishing lakes - especially if you're captain of the boat. But your time is not wasted! Bank fishing ponds can be one of the best ways to hone your skills. As someone relatively new to bass fishing, use this time to focus on technique: casting, proper retrieve, detecting bites, setting the hook, fighting/landing/releasing fish. It's also a great way to test new lures, lines, rods/reels, etc. and to build your realm of confidence (aka, your "arsenal"). I use pond fishing weekly as practice. Each time I pick something to work on or something to test out.
  14. I wonder if their comment might be directed at your reel speed instead of your rod? 8.1:1 is a very quick retrieve... great for flipping and pitching, not great for the impatient among us that need to drag a jig around.
  15. Dag... I've seriously gotta up my game. A-Jay, I'm coming for YOU!
  16. Never had a Duckett rod myself, so I can't speak first-hand, but the "XXH" rating isn't one I would consider for an all around rod... it has a pretty niche use. Personally, I don't like anything more than a Heavy-Fast for "all around" flipping/pitching. Length really depends on several factors, but if you're going to be flipping and pitching, and you're of average height, I'd vote longer.
  17. I just upped my frog setup from a 6.4:1 to a 7.1:1. I get such LOOOOOONNNGGGG casts with a frog, I figure the extra speed will help me cover water a little faster.
  18. My first flipping stick was a Fenwick Elite Tech, and I love, love, LOVED it. You should be able to get one for around $150. I'm using a Dobyns Sierra now, and the Fenwick had a little softer tip which I really liked.
  19. Once you go PP, you'll never go back. At 20#, spend the extra money for the Super 8 Slick.
  20. Had the pleasure of fishing with Mr. Martin in the Opens this past season. Legendary time with a legendary angler... best wishes, Tommy!
  21. 1) The sport we love depends on healthy ecosystems. I'm in favor of anything that helps out Mother Nature. As long as the bans are based on fact (I assume they are), then I support them. 2) The industry is trending away from lead, but lead is so pervasive, I don't think you can say it's been significant yet. Most of the marketing around lead alternatives (especially tungsten) focusses on performance increases over "being green". I think this is smart... not all anglers will agree with me about the impact we make on the environment, but all anglers like the thought of catching more fish. 3) Tungsten is definitely taking up increasing shelf space, but it still makes up only a small percentage of what's available. Lead is going to be hard to get rid of. Not only is it cheap, but it's easy to work with. I'm just guessing, but I doubt there are a lot of folks that pour their own tungsten jig heads. Can you even do that???
  22. I'd either try super glue or try to work some silicone caulk in there.
  23. I don't think i've EVAR used anything that light. Jiminy Christmas!

I know that I successfully broke my first one in half by whapping it into the water to get moss off.
  25. I'm not so sure if the glowing eyes and sound add much to the effectiveness to the lure. I'd say there is an argument to be made that it does purely because it's different. I think you could also make the argument that most of the time a crankbait strike is a reaction strike and it wouldn't matter if there are bells and whistles or not. So my thinking: they are well made baits, so at the least, you have that. Is there potential for the flair to catch an extra fish or two? Maybe... maybe not. Solid buy at 5 or 6 bucks? Yes. Worth 10 or 12 bucks? I'd rather have a pair of SKs. The Classic was won on them three years ago, so we know they catch fish.
