  1. Ok...I gotta admit that when I wrote this, I thought the OP wrote that he "pre-rigged his baits and THEN put them in a Plano box." I wasn't sure what was going on. Now I get it..lol. Yeah, easy. Leave em in the bag until you're ready to fish
  2. I know.....My reply most likely sounded waaaaay worse than I meant it. Sorry Seriously like others before on this thread, it sounds like the reel is wonky or you need some hands on setup by a veteran. No shame in it, you got good gear and want to enjoy it. I remember the winter I learned to use a BC. I HAAAATED it, until one day, I didn't
  3. You should be able to LAUNCH a frog with what you have now. No offense but you either have a bad reel or no clue what you are doing.
  4. Quit dicking around with that sorta nonsense and do some actual fishing
  5. Agreed. I typically throw frogs where walking and popping are not even considerations but I DO see some application where this would come in handy and maybe wouldn't want to throw a treble. I laugh when I hear people talking about how "good" a bait looks and the quality of the paint jobs. To me that's like putting a 5000 dollar paint job on a demolition derby car. Why? Spray it orange or black or white or green or yellow, put some contrast on it and call it good...lol
  6. I can't stand that Milliken fishing guy so hard pass from me. Doesn't have anything to do with the frog but I use what I use already and see no reason to change
  7. I totally get the first part. The second part is a great idea that I never considered. THANKS!
  8. I use my stuff well and take care of it. At 52, I'm starting into the "get rid of things you don't use" phase of life. I shot the bait monkey years ago. I couldn't tell you the last time I bought something that didn't get immediately put to use or is just waiting until I run out of something. Don't have top of the line gear but it's very good for me and taken care of will last a long time
  9. I've spent multiple hours watching a momma raccoon teach her babies how to wash food. Watched beavers working on dams and watched geese just bicker and fight with each other. My fishing time is very important to me but that includes more than just a bait in the water. It's the whole experience. Those fish will always be there but that huge racked buck that came out to drink 30 yards from me won't be. I always enjoy when a platter sized snapping turtle surfaces to say hi or an Eagle is riding the updrafts, too
  10. I've thought about it but I don't do anything that you can't find on a million other videos and stuff. Plus, that's not my style. I've never actually even taken a picture of a fish I have caught. I'm not against it or anything I just don't have a camera and my phone stays in the truck. When I'm fishing, I isolate myself from the outside world because that is what I need. I don't want to talk to anyone, I don't even want to hear myself talk. I don't want to be connected. PLUS.....as soon as I started doing that I would have a day like a had a week or so ago. Buncha blow-ups, not a single fish boated. Timing waaaay off. It happens and makes me strive to be better. Maybe next time I go out, I'll take my phone and snap a few pictures.....
  11. I think this is a key question in all this. To the original question, I'm a good frogger. I got that way through tons of practice and endless casts and empty hooksets and studying mats. I can look at a scum mat and pretty much tell you what kinda depth is under it by appearance and can tell you where the bass are most likely to be. When I'm really dialed in, I can just about tell when strikes are coming. A lot of times I will cast past a target and bring the frog within a couple yards of whatever I'm targeting. Then I stop and usually light a smoke or something. When I refocus on the frog, I give it a twitch....BOOM! As far as water familiarity, I think this is YUGE! I usually struggle with new water.....except when it comes to froggin. Where those mats or froggy areas are at no longer matters to me. My skill level is high enough, I guess, that prime frog water can be anywhere and I will most likely sniff it out. I guess I'm proud of the fact that I'm good at something that is hard but I certainly wasn't born with it. I've friggin WORKED for it
  12. I don't think anyone is arguing with that. I think most people are just needling Glenn because he's clearly having fun trolling us.
  13. That's the #1 thing I like about them. You could rig the toad dead flat. The little bit of weight doesn't affect the action but does help just a tiny bit when you want some sink. I just did it on a whim one day a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised that it worked well.
  14. I guess I've reached the stage in my fishing "career" that I don't buy a ton of stuff to TRY but have a ton of stuff I USE. On all the stuff I need continuously I have enough to last me for years. A lot of the plastics I use and ALL of the jigs I used are custom made by small producers and they are jammin this year. The couple of things I have needed I found easily on line with no problems and were the type of thing a place like BPS doesn't carry anyway
  15. you sound like a future avid frog man, to me. Get over that anxiety of losing them and you'll throw a frog into anything.
  16. Oh yeah....I've had off days before just like we all have. If you're doing it right, those should just rekindle a spark. I mean, this isn't life or death. It's just fishing and even on those days, I'd still rather be doing that than working!
  17. Oh yeah...it ain't me!
  18. I'll beat that dead horse...if you are hooking up but not boating fish, it sounds like you got your timing down ok. Gotta get rid of that mono for frogging.
  19. I'm guessing that like most, I have a favorite lake I fish the most and have some pretty deliberate patterns of how I fish. I know the lake like the back of hand. Occasionally, I fish it different just to stir things up or I might be trying a new technique or some new tackle or something. I did that today and Man those days can be tough. I caught fish all day but just never seemed right and my froggin.....ooooof. I think I've been here long enough and posted about enough for most to know I'm an AVID frogger. Today I felt like a rookie. I could NOT hook up. My timing was all over the place and out of maybe 12 blow ups I boated...wait for it.....ZERO fish. I haven't had a day like that in a decade. I dunno what was wrong and I'm not really discouraged. More puzzled than anything. Tackle was fine, technique pretty well dialed in. Timing? Waaaaaaaay off. Bad enough I was concerned about my health but I seem to be fine. Oh well...just one of those days
  20. I quit waiting for it
  21. SHOCKING! ?
  22. Get a jar of JJ's and you'll never be without. All my baits get tipped in it
  23. Don't hold your breath...lol
