  1. I use a small jig maker that specializes in hair jigs. His prices are VERY reasonable, the jigs are high quality, and he'll make any color or variations you want. I'm a BIG fan. If you want to know who it is, message me. I get nothing but I don't want any to think I am promoting anything beyond a good product from a good maker
  2. That's the funny thing....I actually had one of my better days. I caught quantity and quality. It was like...why didn't I do this before? lol Going back out today to do pretty much the exact same thing
  3. Made a plan, worked the plan and didn't give up after about 10 casts to go back to confidence baits. I also watched this video, which someone posted the other day. For some reason this really clicked with me. Especial the part about how he positions his finger so the line lays across it and the way he lifts and reels. It works.... I don't know if this guy is on here but if he is...THANKS!
  4. ....came on for me today. Watched some beginner vids and went out determined to figure out a jig today. It clicked. I think I caught 14 and missed a couple. Other than seeing if the frog bite was on (its not yet) it was the only thing I threw. Another big gun in the holster. It's only taken me 20 years or so...lol
  5. Okey dokey. Glad you like them. Not sure I would give away all my other baits for any particular brand but hey....not my thing.
  6. My favorite thing to do with the JR is to cut the leg skirts off. Yes....OFF. I toss this little nugget into patchy cover, deep into laydowns, and other area where a regular frog might not make sense but you need the weedlessness of a frog. It's like a little weedless Spook. This came about because I found a Jr a couple of years buried in an old tackle box. The skirt wa dry rotted and just crumbled away. For some reason, I liked the look of it without a skirt and threw it one day. Holy smokes did it work!

I'm impressed you could spend 12 hours on a 9 acre pond. Wait......not sure "impressed" is the right word.....
  8. Are you talking about a Cotton Cordell Super Spot? I would compare it to itself. Still a very popular bait. As far as any other bait....I would compare it to any other lipless crank like a Rat-L-Trap or a Red Eye Shad. Vibrating? I guess, just because it has a very tight shimmy as it comes through the water
  9. Ask Bluebasser.....I think he uses an Academy rod and has raved about it as a frog rod. Froggin is my favorite way to fish and my set up is a little pricier than you want to go but that has more to do with how much I use it. You could stick a reel and some guides on a broom handle and have a decent frog rod
  10. Doesn't sound like that will be a problem with the folks on here...lol
  11. Coupla water bottles, thermos of coffee. maybe a bagel or simple sandwich or two. This might seem kinda odd but I always try to eat slowly when I'm on the water. It got in my head one day when I was wolfing down a sandwich that if I choked out on the water by myself, I was a dead man
  12. Yeah but at least Ahab had his leg bitten off. You haven't had a nibble
  13. 30 times in the last 7-8 months and not a nibble? You, my friend, are wasting your time. Put the rod away and take a picnic if you want to enjoy this particular lake
  14. I loved my Diawa Silvercast years ago. Was a solid reel and the price was great. Go for it. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed. Actually, you've put the idea in my head that I need another one even though I do not!
  15. I used to have great luck on a Culprit Fat Max in Pumpkin seed. May have to revisit that
  16. That Hellbender is.....interesting
  17. Frog in heavy slop.
  18. "Timber Tiger crank baits" This......
  19. This. This sounds like a pointless endeavor and frankly, your friend sounds lazy. He can't figure out how to entertain a 4 and 5 year old? A monkey could tie a cinch knot and buy a couple of Barbie poles. It's not like you're gonna teach them the intricacies of bass fishing.
  20. "Part of me says to just stick with what works until it stops working and then try the other stuff. I’m in southeast Alabama." Listen to that part of you. This is a life-long journey with no end. Use your confidence baits and enjoy catching the fish you catch. When you get proficient in those techniques start mixing other things in. Relax, slow down, and enjoy the ride. You can read, watch videos, and study all you want and those things are all useful tools, but the only real way to learn is time on the water.
  21. ALSO WORKS BETTER THAN *!* *why would you put * on your fishing line?
  22. Can't say it any better than this
  23. I know how to work a Trap, thanks. I also know I can let this flutter down into the weeds and then rip it out and then NOT get hung up on the submerged log that is most likely also there. I still have a box full of traps and will still use them. This i jut another tool in the arsenal.
