  1. Also, I know you said you wanted 60 degree. Get some and try it! I really don't see why they wouldn't work
  2. I think he used 1/8th oz weights in the video. I had some 1/4's and I think even some 3/8's laying around and used those so you can go heavier
  3. If I'm not mistaken he tells you in this video what hooks he (and ultimately I) was using. The weights are just longer spit shot keel weights you put on hooks for horizontal drop. Yeah...he does. It's literally the very first thing in the video. You can find the Mustad hooks and weights online
  4. Do this.....works GREAT. I made up about 20 of them in no time.
  5. Exactly. I can't count the number of times I've had bass knock my frog 3 or 4 feet in the air because they were slapping at it. PLUS, the muck mats I fish are heavy and thick so there is basically no way the frog can actually be seen. They are guessing based on vibration. If you set the hook on every explosion you will miss pretty much most of them AND now your frog is gone. When they slap or blow up and miss, your frog needs to still be there. Couple of *Pop...pop's* later and it's game on. They are dialed in and will inhale your frog. Cross their eyes and get them outta there...FAST
  6. Few years ago I had 3 new custom bucktail jigs with me and wanted to give them a shot. I tie on first one and cast it only to watch it fly away due to a poor tie..( I guess? I have no idea why, actually). I tie on 2nd one and throw straight into a tree. Way up there. Couldn't get down. Still there mocking me to this day. Well....heck....tie on THIRD one. Cut mainline instead of tag and throw it over the side. 3 new jigs. Not one successful cast. All 3 gone in less than 10 minutes.
  7. I'm guessing the OP is pretty young. To him, I say this......you are posting this on probably the ONE place where virtually EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of the community cares about the quality of their fisheries and do their best to maintain or improve them. We also ALL understand what .5 to 5 acre pond looks like. If people are harvesting fish legally, you are free to be upset but you are not free to try to stop them other than asking them not to.
  8. I kinda figured the answer would be frogs/toads. People get all hung up on "you gotta wait this much time", etc. Frogging is, to me, more about practice, experience, and "feel" than anything else. It breaks my heart when I see people giving up on frogging because of the terrible hook up rate. I have spent hour after hour after hour after hour doing nothing but and I have gotten pretty darn good at it. My hook up rate at the height of the season is somewhere around 90-95%. It's that 5-10% miss rate that keeps me doing it...that, and the fact that it is by far the most excitement this old feller can have with a rod in his hand. I love it.
  9. Spots are great. I have 2 boxes full of lipless and most times, I'll throw a spot. Royal Shad works particularly well for me on the days I'm not throwing Chrome/Blue or Chrome/Black
  10. I see people say the one of the great advantages of DC reels is that you don't need to "use your thumb." I guess I don't understand this as there is NO WAY I would ever stop using my thumb as a brake. I keep my brakes basically turned off on my BC's and rely almost completely on my thumb. I can't imagine that most older people aren't like this. They might be great but the idea of an "electric" reel just seems silly to me.
  11. On any given day during season, I'd say 95% of my fishing is with a Blue/Black or Green pumpkin senko tipped in JJ's or a Frog. Couple of areas will get worked with a Spook or Buzzbait. I have 100 lbs of tackle and need about 2.
  12. Nope. Nor do I carry a camera, phone, or even a scale. I've only ever weighed one fish I've ever caught and it was only because a guy was close to me that had a scale and it was a biggun. He wanted to weigh it. None of that seems important to me.
  13. I liked Net Bait Salty BK Tubes so naturally they discontinued them
  14. My favorite way to fish is froggin in HEAVY slop. The thrill of the explosion (or that toilet bowl flush sound if it's a REALLY big one) is what drives me when I'm dialed in on a warm summer day. When you set the hook on a heavy slop frog fish, you d**n well better NOT be "fighting" them. If they get down in the mess, you have most likely lost. You got to get them up and out FAST. I like to have them skiing over the top of the slop.
  15. Yep...get some KVD. I thought the KVD love was nonsense until I actually got some. It works and you'll be fine
  16. Virtually any other year, I would say Frog but this year was different. BAD flooding early in the year changed my home lake a lot and the frogging was poor this year. In fact the fishing was poor in general in 2019. I did have decent luck all summer throwing a weightless T-rigged Blue/black Senko.
  17. I can tell you exactly what to do.... 1.) Gather your life savings. 2) Drive down freeway 3.) Throw life savings out the window. Easy peasy Do you even fish?
  18. Weightless T-rigged Green pumpkin Senko tipped in JJ's chartreuse. That's why I always START there. 90% of the time, I stay there.
  19. The Whole Century? All of them.
  20. I have thrown...and lost.....every single War Pig I ever bought. No clue why. I enjoyed using them and caught fish on them before they all said goodbye. It's actually pretty amazing. I've snagged everyone I've had (maybe 5?) and never managed to unsnag one. That is NOT an indictment of the lure. Just of me throwing them into areas I shouldn't have been throwing them, I guess.
  21. I think Bluebasser86 uses them and last I knew, was very fond of them.
  22. Do what feels natural to you. No right or wrong.
  23. H&H SpinnerBaits. You can them in bulk on the bay or places like Academy have for less than 2 bucks. They catch fish and if you lose them, who cares.
