JJ's. Finally a "Made Guy"
Just seems to work for me. JJ's for the plastics and Megastrike for skirted stuff. I actually have a nice little holder I made out of an old rubbermaid container years ago. I've had minor issues with it in the past but this is my first big blow up. It sucks but I'll still use it. I dunno......

Dumb things you have done while fishing
How many times have you guys used a pair of needle nose or another tool to either unhook a bass or some other mundane chore and then dropped them in the water? I don't mean have them slip I mean you dropped them in instead of the fish or lure? Guilty. More than once. Or (I've done this MANY times) not that big a deal but tied on a lure and then cut main line instead of tag. Did it yesterday....again.

Brand Bashing
I was fishing at a local park a few years ago and this guy comes walking up and asks me if I could spare some line and a hook. I had some fluoro leader and, of course, plenty of hooks. I handed him the box of line and he peeled off 6 or 7 ft and took the hook and tied it on the line. He had a carton of night crawlers with him. He baited his hook and THREW it in the water. I asked him what he was doing and he acted like he didn't hear me. He didn't. He was deaf. I went over and cut him off a stick and gave that to him. He smiled and tied the line on the stick and started tossing it out...and catching fish. Turns out he had got into a fight with his wife and rather than continue the fight he went out walking and on a whim, bought some worms. He didn't own fishing gear. He said all his money went to his family. When I left he was pulling out bluegill as fast as he could put the line the water and was having a ball. I guarantee that neither I nor most of you have EVER enjoyed your multi hundred dollar set-ups as much as that young fella was enjoying using that stick with some line and a hook. BTW.....he could read lips and his speech was pretty normal. It was only when you knew that his speech issue became apparent

JJ's. Finally a "Made Guy"
Well......I finally made it into the club. I'm now TRULY a bass fisherman. My Chartreuse JJ's blew up on me today. Got all over my hands, shirt. and even my face/mustache. I'm gonna be yellow and stink for a week...lol. Goop hand cleaner does a pretty good job. The wife is proud. Even with that, I will still never not have or use JJ's. It's the real deal.

Hey Strike King
I disagree. I realize changing hooks is not big deal but a person shouldn't have to feel like they need better hooks on a big name lure straight out of the package.

Starting of frog/toad season

Spinning rod love!
They are a tool. I use spin/BC rods/reels about equally depending on what I'm doing

About to buy myself a frog and jig setup
I'd like to meet the man that could make a 180 yard cast. But I wouldn't want to fight him

panic box
Yes but it's more of a bag really.....it has bubblegum Senkos in it.

The urge to buy stuff just because !
There's your answer. My answer to this is very simple.....if there is something I WANT but do not require I check my finances. If the purchase takes away from something else, I do not buy it. My wants are secondary to the family...period. If not.....GO FOR IT!

Missing fish
I do a LOT of froggin. I have all the right gear now to do it properly. I do not mess around when I'm trying to horse a 6lb bass out of the muck. get em up and get em out
-
Missing fish
Man, when you're froggin, you sure as hell don't want to "fight" them. Set the hook and get them outta there. You can move them with the rod but don't be wasting no time.

Left or right?
I'm a hand switcher with both types of reels. Happens in one fluid motion and I've never missed a fished because I was changing. I can pitch with my left which is what I'm doing with a spinning reel most of the time. Don't like it or think it's wrong? Ok

Reel Snot or KVD Line Conditioner
I made a post about KVD last year. I had never tried it and considered it to be hogwash....until I bought some. It's good stuff and I will never not use it again.

Have you ever caught the biggest fish in the lake?
The lake I fish the most is about 80 acres. It's public but way out in the boonies so not a ton of pressure. MY PB is out of there at 9.3. ABout 4 days after landing that one I hooked one that was bigger but she spit the frog at the apex of a jump. I was heart broken as I know it was a DD. She's still out there.....as is the 9.3 girl. Both should be bigger now. They gotta be in the top 5 of that little lake.

New huge PB!!
I'd watch those "huge" cracks if I was you. That chick appears to have some guns. She could probably break you if she wanted to.

Let's talk Tubes
I just made up a dozen or so home made Phantom jigs. This'll be the year of the tube for me. Tubes have been spotty for me but I am determined to master them.

Lure Selection Flowchart
You are setting yourself for a lot of frustration AND a lot of money spent on lures and bait you will ultimately never use. Everybody else has said it but it bears repeating over and over. Research bass behavior and conditions. Weather, water clarity, blue sky vs. overcast, dawn/dusk vs. mid-day, etc. You've spent 25 years fishing for whatever, what's another 25 learning how to bass fish? Relax and enjoy the journey. There is no destination. You will find that as you get better and better that super highway of info, techniques, equipment, etc., you are on will become a nice country lane. Ain't nothing wrong with color charts and such but when I'm in my boat and the sun is shining, the coffee is hot, and the bass are biting, I sure as hell don't wanna be studying charts. Just my .02. If you want to buy an entire dresser full of baits and technique specific stuff I bought 10 years ago that have never seen the water, let me know!

I'm Done!
If I can tie an Albright with my arthritic, sausage-like fingers, so can you. Pull off 3/4 of that mono and get some 8lb Sufix 832 and tie it to that mono with this fancy new knot you've learned. Make sure the spool is flat and label is up. Fill up your spool. Enjoy fishing. I literally just finished doing this. https://www.***.com/fishing_knots/albright-special I also like the Alberto. Another easy and strong knot. https://www.***.com/fishing_knots/alberto-knot
