Re: ANY INPUT APPRECIATED
RR-Well, Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have a good plan with a resonable budget. Where I live, boats less than 12' long do not have to be registered. You can go to your local Motor Vehicle website and find boating regulations. That should give you the info you need. I hope you fill that little boat up with fish! Ronnie

jig trailer
Ben That pork frog is the perfect trailer for your 1/4 oz Strike King jig. If the jig bite is on you'll get em. I would start in shallower water and work toward the deeper water slowly. JMHO Ronnie

Hang on to Your Guns!
Hey Muddy, Try to imagine this scenerio.... Instead of hundreds of helpless students cowering behind their desks waiting to be slaughtered by a lunatic. Imagine one armed college professor or one law enforcement student with a weapon and the courage and decency to put others safety ahead of his own (a hero in a cowardly world) that may have stopped this nut case before he could KILL THIRTY TWO PEOPLE. There are such people out there. They are the cops and friends that you knew in Brooklyn. JMHO Ronnie

Hang on to Your Guns!
Good advice Kent. The bible says "be as wary as a snake and as harmless as a dove". Ronnie

wow, what a storm!!
Bass bus is Ok, but it's hard to resist the urge to cast a buzz bait at the tree next to my driveway. LOL Ronnie

wow, what a storm!!
Yesterday was the fourth wettest day in history here. I believe it! Everything looks like a pond here. Ronnie

BAITS- Big, bigger, biggest
It's not a saltwater lure perse', but I fish a 3/4 Arkie jig with a 9" Black widow eel. Nearly a foot long and weighs over an ounce. One of my favorite offerings. Have caught bass of every size with it. Have even caught bass smaller than the lure. This always amazes me, that even little bass will go after this big ugly monster. Ronnie

static deflection help
Bassripper, This is just another good case for spiral wrapped rods. If you put those guides on the bottom, they cannot touch the blank. Go to www.rodbuilding.org and do a search on 'simple spiral' or 'bumper spiral' and check out what the experts have to say. I guarantee you will not regret it. All of my baitcasting rods are spiral wrapped except one and it will be when I get a little time. JMHO Ronnie

I have a Boat Buddy that was on my trailer.
Robert, I would love to have it for my boat! I fish by myself a lot. That would be a Godsend. I would be glad to pay for the shipping (it's coast to coast for me). If someone else has already grabbed it, that's cool. I will PM you my address if it's still available. Thanks! Ronnie

Lamiglas
With one exception, all my rods are G-Loomis or Lamiglas. I have built 1/2 dozen rods on Lamiglas blanks and they are all super fishing sticks. You will be pleased with the Lamiglas. 1/2 price, all the better! Ronnie

Shimano Chronarch/ St. Croix Avid
I also have a similar setup and it's awesome. You will be pleased with it. Ronnie

Paid forward
Not trying to hijack your thread but I have to tell you that on the Fork trip, Dominick gave me a Pflueger President spinning reel, something about "mooks have to fish with something other than Shimanos sometimes" LOL. Muddy_man is the real deal. Thanks Dominick! Ronnie

P.E.T.A.
I did this to my dog! I left a hook baited with a piece of shrimp in my Jon boat and my boarder collie thought it might be tasty. I had to cut the hook out of his lip with a razor. He lived and prospered (like 99% of the fish I catch) until a stranger's car killed him. How come PETA is not trying to outlaw cars??? Just wondering....... Ronnie

Braided line and fluro leader
Mike, The strongest knot to join braid to any leader is opposing nail knots. They are easy to tie with a "knot tyer" tool, even with disobedient hands like you & I have. LOL This knot will not fail, you will break the leader first. It's compact and if you tie it right it slips through the guides easily. Here's link to the tool & knot. I hope this helps. http://www.tie-fast.com/Knot%20Tyer.htm Ronnie

stand-out dropshot hooks
Me too, I grabbed some to try and after reading these posts I am anxious to see how they work. Thanks, Ronnie

Spinning blank for Casting Rod?
GK, No arguments from me, LOL. This is all about sharing information and learning what I didn't know. I didn't say there isn't one, I just have not seen one. I have a Loomis CR722c and it's the lightest BC rod I have ever fished with. Loomis calls it a medium, but I say it's much lighter power. Maybe it's just me, but this rod is too light for baitcasting IMHO. I fish it with a 50mg and even with this very light reel, I think a heavier rod is in order. But hey, I built a noodle spinning rod from a Lamiglas flyrod blank, so you really can do "anything you want". I was just trying to make the point that if you already have the spinning blank it could be smarter to build a spinning rod as the other components (guides, grips, seat) are often more expensive than the blank and I would be disappointed if I spent the $ and wasn't happy with the outcome. Whatever bassripper decides, I hope he has a killer rod when he's done. Tight wraps, Ronnie

How many
Hey Catt, I don't know how I missed this thread. I grew up in South Louisiana, New Orleans area and Plaquimine Parish. We daily fished the pipeline canals for speckled trout & redfish, some of the best fishing on earth IMHO. We often rented a crew boat and headed from the mouth of the Mississippi out South pass to the oil rigs for red snapper, but you never knew what you might catch out there. Always a surprise, mackeral, blue fish, black drum, sting ray or even a shark every now & then. Louisiana really was the "Sportsman's Paradise" when I was younger. Lots of salt water fishing when I lived there. I still get to go saltwater fishing here in Jersey and sometimes the fishing is awesome. I just don't have a boat big enough for the bays & ocean here. I keep depending on the kindness of my friends with big boats. I love saltwater fishing and go every time I get a chance. Ronnie

Spinning blank for Casting Rod?
You can do anything that you want, but that doesn't mean you should. Spinning blanks differ from casting in taper wall thickness. They are a different animal. I have personally never seen a med. light casting rod and I wonder what reel you would pair it with. If you have a med. light spinning blank, you should wrap a spinning rod with it. Get a heavier casting blank to wrap a baitcasting rod. Good blanks are inexpensive and you will have the right tool for the job. JMHO Ronnie

Favorite worm rod specs?
I use CR722GLX with Shimano 50mg for finesse worms and a MB844C IMX with a Calais for big T-rigged worms & swimming jigs. Mine are also my own builds, spiral wrapped & split grip. Ronnie

C.A.S.T. For Kids fund raising success!!
This event was double fun for me! I got to hang out at Russ' place on Saturday night. He Steamed up a pile of fresh Lobster, clams and veggies for a dinner treat I don't get very often, it was awesome. I really enjoyed visiting and talking with Russ. Sunday was a super day on the lake. I got to meet some more of the BR members and see Craig (cigarlover) ( I thought I just left him in Texas a week ago). LOL I also had the privelige of fishing with Mike (Delainey's Dad). I brought my Lake Fork curse to Rhode Island and kept us out of the running in the tournament, but there was no way to spoil the good time on the water. THANKS RUSS & MIKE for a great time in the biggest little state in the Northeast. Ronnie
