Types of knots for braided line??
Alpster----That is the main problem that I am having. Palomar knot is not working with my braided line. I have already lost three jigs with this knot and it is not the line that is breaking. I have 30lb Power Pro on my reel and you can tell at the end of the line that the knot failed. TBP, I mostly use 50lb power pro and I don't ever remember the palomar knot failing. I have many times straightened a Gammie hook when snagged on thick cover. Make sure you don't cut the tag end too short. Power pro is very slippery, leave an 1/8 inch of tag. Also, with lighter line, try passing the line through twice (double wrapping) the line when you tie the knot. I hope this helps. Ronnie

got away
At the end of every fishing day, I cut off all baits, back off the drag on all reels and remove them from the rods. This helps me to always, tighten the reel seat, re-tie the bait and reset the drag. JMHO Ronnie

Follow-Up: How Many Lures Do You "USE?"
I want to say that I fish everything in the box to the max, but the truth is, Culprit worms, Arkie jigs w/pork or creature trailers, and senko type baits get 80% of my attention. Then top waters, spinner & buzzbaits get a little action and last on my list are crankbaits. That's how it is now, but I am determined to give some new baits a "hard work" chance. Ronnie

Will someone explain this backing subject?
Andrew, Line backing is as old as fishing reels. If you want to use the best line, you must pay for the excellent quality. The reality is, that most reels hold way more line than the best fisherman can cast. Almost all reels will hold more than 100 yards of the recommended test line. Casting much more than a third of that distance is amazing a best and a lie at worst. It makes sense, therefore to use a cheaper backing for the first half to two thirds of the spool. Where braid is concerned, monofiliment backing serves two purposes. Big $ savings and mono will not slip on the spool, if tied properly. Use backing, it pays. JMHO Ronnie

power pro line
I have 1/2 dozen reels spooled with power pro and I like it. It's the best line there is. That's my opinion. Ronnie

Confessions of a Pflueger Mook
Fishing equipment has to be one of the most competitive markets in the world. Although I am a cerified member of the 'Shimano Posse' I can tell you that Pflueger, Diawa, ABU Garcia, Quantum, and others are working their butts off to get your $. If you stick to the quailty, proven, name brands, you will rarely get a piece of junk, no matter what your price range. It's all about the $. God bless a free market and word of mouth advertising. Types of knots for braided line??
Palomar knot is best for braid. To attach a leader to braid I use a double nail knot. JMHO Ronnie

One helpful word of advice from TF...
TF, I have the price of a new Triton Bass Boat in my daughter's mouths. LOL This too shall pass, however after seeing what my youngest went through, I at least have a little compassion for your pain. Hang in there, it's down hill from here. Ronnie

Abu Garcia has a posse...
I am also a pretty hard core member of the Shimano Posse, but I have 3 ABUs that I am not ready to part with. I have an old red 6000 that I just rebuilt (catfishing reel), a 5600WS and 6600D5, so I don't mind fishing with the Garcia posse. Ronnie

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Me too, since I'm one of those who are not limited to what you can carry on a commercial airliner, I will have a little extra 'inventory' also. I have limited my self to ONE tackle bag and 4- rods for 'fishing'. I will have some extras in case a change up is in order. I will also be bringing along a few basic rod building supplies in case one of our group breaks a tip or steps on a guide, etc. No warantees implied, but we will be able to get you up and fishing again.
