yea I'm fishing Cali lakes but I'm sometimes dropshoting in 40 feet! takes a long time to get to the bottom even with a 1/4 weight

Abu Garcia rods are good quality and well build but I was not happy with my villain it was a 7 foot M spinning and it seemed like a 7 foot H casting rod! I returned it. so go lighter than you think

Thought id give a shout out to both of these company's, one with is in Japan and the other is in Australia. I have ordered from both and both were Dirt cheap Cheaper than I see stuff going for used on the flea market! and both reels I bought we recived in a week or less. I would give them both 5 out of 5 star...

Just recently ordered one of these form JLS in the 301 size. Planing on using it for swimbaits and light inshore fishing in the ocean. I'm thinking of spooling it with 50 pound braid. Anyways who owns this reel and do you like it? What are your line preferences?

Yep honestly if I was you I would drive a couple more hrs to Lopez lake and fish there. It's primarily where I fish and last time I went a couple weeks ago the fishing was slow but still in mid February I'm sure the fishing is going to pick up. There's no quarentten there just a 2 min inspection. Make sure there's not even moisture from the morning air. ( I always wipe the boat out with paper towels) but honestly in my opinion your best bet for southern ca is probably there unless you fish a private pond or something... Pm me and I'll fill you in on more info on the lake if your interested and going to go.

Both lakes are said too not that great of fishing right now... But by February things might pick up. Just fish slow with finesse. Are you planing on renting a boat? Or fishing from shore? Fish hound is a good website for looking at weekly fishing reports too. FYI
