  8. I use an old Quantum 381 (3.8 to 1) extremely slow retrieve with a 7 1/2 ft rod 8-12 lb fluorcarbon I am getting old so I keep the rod down on my leg and I sit down crank ave speed when it hits something i wait a moment then speed up the retrieve and lift the rod at the same time but only come up to about 9 oclock ...stop then start the retrieve again usually on the stop they smoke it. if you miss it i have been throwing a carolina rig back in and keep it moving usually you can pick up the short strikers. hope this helps Joe

  12. well I rethunk the trip. Going down May 13th thru 17th maybe it will clean up and warm up a little. Course me puttin it off the gas will probably go from $4.20 to $6.00 a gallon..
  13. Thanks to all for the response. I used to plan all my trips with solunar tables and watch weather trends. I kept very accurate info on everything from previous trips. Then cancer came and visited me and go figger now I go (good weather ,bad weather) I go either way and and always have a good time. Kinda sad to think I had to wait until 60 and questionable health to really appreciate its not all in the catchin. Now don't get wrong I am still counting on gettin my string stretched. It just won't bother me as much as it used too if it just stretches a little. I am really looking forward to the trip. Good luck to us all Joe G

  17. I have fished with Bob out of Horse Creek three times good guy what he meant was at the dam end smallies prevail. If you go with the attitude that you are going to catch them YOUR way on YOUR baits you are in for a rude awakening. If you truly feel this way about seeing something new why did you hire a guide? Just curious Joe g
  18. Been avid river smallie fisherman when young. now body won't allow wading so in early 2000 went to Dale Hollow with a guide who showed me how to float-n fly fish. Next day without guide caught a 7# 2oz on a homemade jighead with a Yamamoto twin tailed grub I have been a serious smallmouth junkie since Dale Hollow, Center Hill, St Clair, Erie LUVEN ALL

  20. Ice out my favorite time of the year no boat traffic usually have the lake to my self. I have tried a lot of things in my 50 years of bass fishing but about 4 years ago I started using a 3" or smaller black neon tube texas rigged thru the side (less plastic) with a split shot about 4-6" up the line. start out slow on warmer banks especially rocky areas bounce if they won't hit it fished slow (works for me and LM)

  23. J Franc, I don't know if I could wait much longer than that. I actually went up this last weekend to ST Clair to see my son and his wife.
