I do not poke another hole. A larger hook can be CAREFULLY slid into the last gill plate under the chin of the fish. Hold by the lip until the fish is still, then release and let the fish hang on the scale. Have not caused damage yet. I was using the "battery clip" on the bottom lip of the fish, but the reaction I was seeing made me think I was causing the fish pain.

Suit yourself. Been using them for three years. Tested them with known weights. The hook needs to be replaced with a bigger one.

I do all of the above with a Fish n Ski. Mine is an old Glastron. It is built on a Bass Boat hull. Somebody must still make this hybrid.

If you do decide to use a Swivel, use just the barrel swivel with no snap. Use a very small one, size 14, and in black. You do not want the fish to be looking at the swivel instead of your bait.

Whaaaat? Somebody catches fish on a $40 rod! Inconceivable! (yes, I know what that word means!) I have the Composite Cranker, and I really like it for shallow runners.

Just open the reel, spray with WD-40 and close it up! (DON'T DO THIS!)

I think "wind knot" might be a misnomer. Most, if not all of my snarls begin with a loop on my spinning reel spool.

You will NOT like 12 fluoro on a spinner!

If you want to backlash a lot, use fluoro. I have found that braid and mono cast easier. Might just be me, though.

Use the spin set up with the 17lb braid for TW. BTW that 20 FC leader is too heavy for Drop Shot. It will inhibit the action of the bait.
