  1. Your experience is just that, you tend to go with that. I changed to an improved albright connection when my leader was repeatedly failing at the uni/uni connection, and I could tell that it was the FC or mono that had been cut. I still break off on the hook set ocassionally, but now the break is at the hook, not the leader connection.
  2. OK, here is one of my favorites: A fella keeps coming to the dock with his limit when everyone else is getting skunked. The Warden invites himself onto the guy's boat on the next trip. They pull up to the first stop and the fisherman reaches under his seat and pulls out a stick of dynamite. The Warden says, "I knew you were doing something illegal!" The fisherman then lites the fuse, tosses the stick to the warden and replies, "are you going to talk or are you going to fish?"
  3. Just a heads up on the uni/uni, sometimes the braid cuts the mono or FC. Not something you want to find out with a big fish on.
  4. Three abilities that equal job security: Availability Reliability Responsibility Be careful of the burnout factor!
  5. Poor thing was hungry!
  6. I was thinking along these lines. It has happened more that a few times. Good thoughts on your part, though.
  7. We do not have many cottonwoods out here but many plants around our lakes put off cotton-like seeds. They clog up the micro guides. They keep the line clean, though.
  8. No clue, but my guess would be that larger mouth = older fish.
  9. Did you fish together?
  10. A buddy gave me a jointed popper bait. It has a piece of Braid coming out of the front that pulls out about 4". When it retracts the rear end of the bait waggles back and forth. I expect this lure to catch fish next summer. We'll see.
  11. So when did they reverse the gearing? Am I reading this right? I have never seen a baitcaster geared to crank forward from the underside of the rod.
  12. No snow predicted here in San Diego, but the water temps are down to 64! Might have to stop fishing top water!
  13. No smiley face here but that's funny! Irony at its finest!
  14. Agreed, looks like overthink.
  15. Was fishing straight 20# braid yesterday on my dropshot. I was not getting bit and I could see the bottom in 15' of water. I tied on a 12# FC leader and ended up with 6 "keepers". (15"+) Coincidence? Not sure, but my confidence is now with a FC leader. As to handling, yeah, FC is a pain. Not only does it seem to backlash more, but the backlashes seem to go deeper due to the springyness of the FC. Tape down in the spool will help control that.
  16. Great news, I just bought that exact lure, I think. Is it a #5? I have a friend who use it almost exclusively. The lake he fishes has a mix of bass and crappie, and, as you have found, it catches both. BTW, he says the 7 is not nearly as effective.
  17. Occassionally I catch cats on my Bass lures. Good dinner on those days! The bad part is the disappointment when my monster lunker bass is not!
  18. There is a fella out here that puts a worm straight out the back of his spro. Calls it a "sprouse". He kills it! I think Mend-it might work better than silicone.
  19. That's when the handwriting was on the wall about the Charger's future. I see them losing the rest of their schedule. Hope I am wrong. Way too many good teams to get through to the Super Bowl.
  20. How come nobody has mentioned the Chargers? Oh yeah, because they are playing like the Chargers! Hot or cold, but now mostly cold! I thought they could beat the Rams, but after the Rams humiliated the Donkeys, I wonder!
  21. If it was an old carbureted engine (like mine) I would say it got loaded up while it was idling. Pretty sure it could not be anything with the trim. Try not warming it up so long.
  22. I kinda thought you would elaborate on this point. I use braid or braid / leader on everything but cranks, but I have a good many fish shake the bait on the jump. I think that could be the fault of the braid. When the fish surfaces he gets just a little more slack. With braid he gets a little more slack due to the lack of stretch. Could be just enough extra slack to throw more baits. I know I could put my rod down in the water to prevent them from jumping, but I so enjoy seeing them thrash on the surface!!!
