  1. Curado or Tatula. If you look around on here, you'll see quite a number of threads asking what is best in your price range.
  2. I've got one of those old Bionic Blades in a spinning rod. Those were good rods.
  3. Most are whenever I feel like going. But there's always a few trips that are planned months in advance. I usually will spend 2-3 weekends a year at a lake 2-4 hours away. And a week in Canada. And then a weekend in the fall for salmon.
  4. Glad they worked for someone. I'm sure they catch fish, and I'm sure I need to throw them more to give them a chance, but the DT's just work so darn well.
  5. Jerkbaits - never used them a ton in the past, but they were a big producer this year for me (BX Minnow, Husky Jerks, Flap Shad, Pointers) Megabass Pop X and Pop Max - I've used tons of poppers in the past, but I spent the extra $$$ and got one of each of these and they produced very well
  6. Time of year, location, and conditions can all determine what makes a confidence lure. Example: I always do really well on jerkbaits in the spring and the fall. I feel confident with those baits at those times. But in the summer, or right now in the late fall/early winter, I don't have much, if any, confidence in one at all.
  7. I feel your pain. I just got a new Zillion Crazy Cranker and I'm dying to use it.
  8. What am I supposed to do at work tomorrow morning now????
  9. Another lure I bought this year... The Rapala BX Waking Minnow. I saw it come out and instantly bought two of them because they looked really good. I like the action on it, but I didn't have any luck on it.
  10. I've always been big on Shimano's spinning reels. Although I did buy a Ballistic this year and I must say it is very nice, but it is also twice the price as the Lexa. I can't say anything about the Lexa, but I will say that the Symetre is a great reel. Especially at $99.
  11. I bought a bunch of the Rapala scatter lures this spring. Didn't have much luck on them the first few times and just stuck with my regular DT's, countdowns, and shad raps.
  12. Never heard of it. "Firm" is not a quality I look for in a line. Especially a braid.
  13. My vote goes to Suffix 832 for braid. Or if you're willing to spend a little extra, Seaguar Smackdown is really nice stuff for an extra $10. As for fluoro, I'm a fan of Sunline Sniper FC.
  14. That's a victory for you! I'll likely be doing the same once I buy my own house.
  15. I've got a local pond very similar to this by me as well. I don't know the max depth, but the deepest I've found is probably 6-7 feet, and I know 2/3's of the lake is probably only 1-3 feet deep. Really makes you wonder where they go in the winter whenever the ice gets 15-20" thick. Like you, I haven't had any luck since the water temp's have dipped down into the 50's. I've tried small jerkbaits, small squarebills, , t-rigged plastics, Flukes, rooster tails. Nothing seems to work.
  16. I've found that in general, the guys who fail to read the manual are the one's who seem to have the most problems. As listed numerous times, wipe the brake drum off, put a drop of oil on there, and you'll have no problems at all.
  17. I think I can honestly say I'm good for right now. I just picked up a Diawa Zillion Crazy Cranker last week (4.9:1 ratio), and I think that rounds out my arsenal quite nicely now that I can chuck large cranks with ease. So maybe I've already gotten my offseason reel. Although I might not pass up a good deal on a Core or Aldebaran if one comes along.
  18. Nothing wrong with it. I fish a good bit with 3 in the boat, so overhead is almost the only way to cast. Overhead casting also works well for super long bombing. Especially if you're throwing with the wind and you want to get some air under the lure and let the wind carry it for you.
  19. My favorite that I've used is Sunline sniper FC
  20. They're still brand new?! I may be interested in one.
  21. Husky jerks, BX minnows
  22. I bought the 2000 model about a month back at the local shop for $130. It was too nice of a reel to pass up for the price. I haven't used it much, but so far I really like it. I plan on using it a bunch in the spring for crappies.
