  1. Got one a couple years ago, and it is still as smooth as the day I bought it. Very good reel!!
  2. I prefer both at different time. I really like the gulp sinking worms. I think the taste would have a major impact when fishing worms. I also use Yum Dingers(senko impression) which work really well. The Yum baits are going to be much softer than the gulp (plus and minus). My favorite YUM bait is the houdini shad. I would definatley try the YUM if you never have before.
  3. Thanx for the info. Ring fry, Im actually living in college station, TX now. I just havn't changed my profile because im lazy.
  4. First Question What do yall do when fishing a bed that is right up next to the bank. Ive found that when i flip a jig on top of (within a couple feet of the bass) the bass gets spooked and swims away. Sometimes I cast up onto the bank and drag the jig into the water. Just wondering what techniques everyone uses to get a lure into these beds without spooking the fish. Second Question A local pond that i fish had bass spawning in it a couple weeks ago. Now i can see swarms of small fish in the beds, which i guess are the offspring from the spawning bass. When I went out the other day I found bass sitting in these same areas next to the offspring. Do the males or females stick around to protect the offspring? I though both fish left the bed after the offspring hatched.
  5. Yeah. That is the only reason that I use soft plastic frogs instead of spro frogs. Something about the frog diving under water get the ones that wont chase the topwater.
  6. What kind of line do all of you use for rattle traps. I've started using braid with fluoro leader, which I like because I can easily rip the traps through weeds. Should I be using mono to keep from pulling hooks out from the fish?
  7. Sorry, thought i was in the tackle forum when i wrote this :-[
  8. I picked up some rat-l-traps today and saw that they now have floating traps. Maybe they had them for a while..i dont know. Anyways, i guess they are supposed to have a depth from 3 inches to 3 feet when burned. Kind of got me to thinking what the regular rat-l-traps run at? I guess I never thought they ran deeper than 3ft. Im using 1/2 oz. traps by the way. What depth do these usually run at?
  9. Awesome article about the skinny fish. Thanks for the post

Not really a tube person(prefer jigs), but you might be able to use a straight shiner hook. They have pretty large gaps without the link. Again, not from experience, but just thought you might look at them and see what you think
  11. First of all, I just want to thank everyone who posted on the "hook in the gullet" post. I have caught two fish in the past week with the hook in the gullet, and successfully removed the hook from both going through the gills. My question is if I am waiting too long to set the hook. When using a worm(senko) I will usually let the fish take line for 2-4 seconds after I feel the first bump. Is this correct, or should I be setting the hook right after I feel the bump? Do the bass usually inhale the worm before starting to swim, or do they gradually eat the worm as they are swimming away?
  12. I have some costas, and I love them. Not only are they awesome glasses, but their customer service is second to none. I had a problem with some discoloration on the lenses and they fixed them for free. I have also heard of many people who have had lures come back and hit them(shattering the lense) and have recieved new pairs for free. I always like when a company back's their product. Besides that, they fit really well, they are light(forget I'm wearing them sometimes), and they are awesome as afr as being able to see into the water. I have the green mirror/amber and I love em'
  13. I know the physical difference, but I was wondering what the differences is when you are fishing them. When do you choose one of the setups over the other, and why?
  14. Actuallu just read a long article about this is in an In-Fisherman magazine. An really intersting thing that they mentioned was that the whole "bleeding bait" concept is just hype. They said that bass dont have the mental ability to associate red on the lure with the bait being wounded. As far as the line goes, they said that it really doesnt dissapear any better than anything else. They talked about maybe using in next to red background that you would find in some oklahoma lakes. They did, however, show what color bass see best in deep, mirky water, and red was ones of the best.
  15. I bought the regular Johnny Morris about a year ago and I love it! Havn't had any problems with it so far, and I fish with it atleast every other day. Handles anything from worms to swimbaits with ease!
  16. Senko.......keep it simple in tough conditions. Can fish it deadsticking or like a fluke..both work
  17. Nice fish! Hard to guess from a picture, but it looks like it would go little over 7lbs. What did you catch her on, and where? Awesome fish
  18. Welcome. I would say throw a couple spinner baits in your tackle box as well. Guys have their preferences, but any kind will catch fish. Stick to chartruese and white in the beginning. One thing i will say is that bas fishing is like any other sport.....people can tell you how to do it, but you really just need to get out there and experiment. Every fisherman has his own strong/weak techniques. Just pick up lures that you think will work and try them. You cant mess up!...."A bad day of fishing beats and good day in the office"
  19. Exactly, just depends on conditions and the soft plastic. If you are using a fluke you are probably going to work it faster to immitate a baitfish. Worms can be worked a variety of ways. When using worms I would just say (the harsher the conditions, the slower you will work it). During the winter, and sometimes in summer, I will totally deadstick a worm. Some days you can almost use a worm like a jerkbaits and get hits. Just depends on what they want. Good thing about this is that its hard to mess a spot up by fishing too fast or slow. Just try different techniques
  20. Ouch....not to change the subject, but what it the best way to get a treble out like that. Push through and cut the barb? I've only had this happen once and luckily it wasn't that deep and I coudl just yank it out.....still wasn't very much fun!
  21. I would just call their number. They have excellent customer service. I cant fish without my costas anymore! Just call them and they will more than likely fix them for free. good luck
  22. Frogs are definately effective on small lakes!! I've found they work just about anywhere. I like throwing them in the nastiest stuff I think a bass could live in..... also weeds, lilly pads, brush piles. I also work them in open water every now and then. I throw them pretty much all summer. Recommendation: Spro--best frog on the market
  23. very nice! Ive had a lot of success with the watermelon/red flake crawdads. Awesome first fish of the year!
  24. I just started using jigs a lot this winter. I definately found out why so many people love them! My question is if jigs are just as affective throughout the year. If so, what other times of the year, and where ,during those times, do you fish them?
  25. What did you get her on? .....and What type of cover?
