  1. LOL. Glad I'm not the only one...
  2. That's usually how it was for me on timing. That's why last spring I hit Clinton for a week, and Hillsdale for a week. In 14 days I caught ten males between 15-23", no big females. I take DJ to Hillsdale ONE night, and he manages one 8#. I was kind of peeved, lol.
  3. I just found an exoskeleton from my last Melvern trip cleaning the boat yesterday.
  4. Hillsdale has the next state record Walleye swimming around. Guaranteed. Love the spring spawn there, get to see some incredible fish. And then all the rednecks keep them.
  5. Everyone I know, including my parents, that were on Milvin today did really well. Even with the Backlashers turds out.
  6. Ah, my favorite time of year again. Where this thread should be temporarily nicknamed "So Ya'll Want to Learn Melvern"
  7. My dad is out right now and just sent me a picture of a pig. Said he's caught three over 2 and one over 3 since sun up this morning.
  8. Well the Melv was a bit different on Sunday than it has been for me the past four weekends. Finally got DJ off of his chain, which was nice. It was pretty windy and choppy by the time we launched at 6:30, and only got worse as the morning progressed. By 10-11am there were two to three foot rollers blowing southwest 25+ mph across the lake and started making things tough. But, we pounded it out and fished the same big fish point Lake Erie style and it paid off. DJ got his new PB at 3.1# on a Tennessee Shad Keitech. I did fish a spook in those rollers though and had a few takers, which was kind of funny. We caught probably 35 fish and the best five went just over 11 lbs. Still had fish eating tubes, squarebills, and a few on a shakyhead. Nothing really too different as far as what they wanted, but didn't see as many shallow feeding frenzies and the topwater bite was not on as much either Did have a good one come unbuttoned halfway back to the boat on it's second jump when DJ was landing that first fish in the first pic. Water temps did jump up to almost 80. Should cool down some this week, and hopefully won't be as windy and rough next weekend.
  9. I am too. 4 weeks in a row. No shame.
  10. Like we'd said before though, the fishing there sucks anyway so you're better off just going to Hillsdale, or Pomona.
  11. I suppose a really strong east/west wind would create issues...seeing as that's the direction the lake runs. And I mean it's been rough a few times, but never enough to sketch me out in my deep V.
  12. The wind and chop isn't ever that bad. I fish out of a 16' Alumacraft deep V and I make runs up and down the lake all day with no problems at all.
  13. As long as my guides aren't freezing I imagine I'll be there!
  14. Melvin was extra tight again for us today. Two over 3# in the first hour. Many more close to it. Probably close to a 40 fish day. Conor's big was 3.10, and mine was 3.4. I'll continue be there every weekend until the end of October (by then I will have hopefully broken my 4# curse.
  15. 16.5' deep-V Alumacraft. There were times during the spring Big Bass Bash that we got rocked in the main channel, but my boat handles it *fairly* well. Still hurts though. Deep-V or not, 4 footers don't feel good in any small craft.
  16. I had an amazing time last spring at BBB. Caught so many good fish and completely changed my oultook of LOZ.
  17. Makes me so nervous for BBB this fall in my boat by what you'd told me about last fall
  18. Looks like that boat sold bro, lol.
  19. My garage is 22' deep. My boat is 16.5' and I still have to trim the motor all the way down and put it in at an angle to get it in.
  20. Bottom line is don't settle. Wait a little longer if you have to, making sure you're totally satisfied.
  21. I just can't justify it, and it'll only keep getting better and better. Melvern will be a staple on my weekends until the end of October, at the least.
  22. DJ and his dad went there yesterday while my dad and I were at Melvern. They had probably 12-13 fish, biggest was his dad's at 4.3#, really nice fish. All others were 2# or under and they caught 5 cats over 5lbs.
  23. Had another awesome day at Melvern yesterday. My Dad has been on me for weeks wanting to get him out there. Was a little worried about the front that came through overnight on Saturday, but it didn't seem to effect much. A bit chilly and breezy to start. First cast of the morning on a Sexy Dawg yielded the first fish of the day. My dad followed suit shortly after, but his on came on the Ned. After about 9am it slowed down quite a bit. We bounced from spot to spot, but the only thing that remained pretty constant was a topwater bite. He's never really fished topwater much so getting to teach him how to properly walk the dog, and then get continuously blown up on was awesome. By noon we'd gone back to a point that we'd fished a few times earlier in the day that's usually really good for us with a southwest wind, but yesterday it was blowing northwest and didn't seem to have any effect on the spot. My dad and I both had several fish pushing 4# come unbottoned. He did have big fish of the day just shy of 3lbs. All in all an excellent day, and it'll only keep getting better.
