  1. I'll use a 6'6" medium action with braid and a mono leader or a 6'6" or 6'0" medium heavy with mono. i have 4 other completely different rods for Frogs and Toads.
  2. It's not the same. It's a rod totally made in Mexico. It's not even close to the Avid. look at an Abu Garcia Villian 2.0 they're outstanding rods.
  3. Take a hard look at the Abu Garcia IKE 70-5 Signature power rod. Super versatile with great hook setting power. I've boated a lot of bass with this rod.
  4. My 7'6" Villian 2.0 is interesting. It's light and has enough tip to make any accurate cast. I use it primarily for toads. When I get a blow up I'll still it and get the tip down. When I set it the tip it reacts really quick and then the 2.0oz back bone kicks in. It's brutal.. it's become my favorite toad rod. My hook set ratio is up a solid 15%. I trust this rod.. I've boated 5+ pounders after hauling them 60-100 feet and thru some heavy cover. Using the Owner 5.0 Double hook has helped as well. Much better than a Stanley 4.0 The Stanley 5.0 is also a good hook for long toads like a Zoom. I prefer Gamblers with the Owner. I highly recommend the Villian 2.0 76-6 for frogs and toads or flipping.
  5. I don't get them often. I suppose using a bait caster for 30+ years may have something to do with my results. Keep on casting.. let the rod work for you.
  6. I fish a lot with toads. My personal experiences with many rods lead me toward the fast tip and lots of back bone when fishing in heavy cover. I like a 6-7 power magnum rod. My toad and frog rods: lews Custom Lite Magnum Grass Abu Villian 2.0 76-7 Abu Villian 2.0 70-6 Abu Ike 74-6 ( softer tip ) good on frogs. Team Diawa 66 MH I use the Diawa MH fast in open water.
  7. I should've taken your advice sooner.. Those Stanley 4s cost me big time. lol...
  8. If you set the hook like Mike ( He's a maniac) I think you will like the rod.. Jelly
  9. This is the Impossible Dream! Anybody like to sing? Maybe humm? i will do your survey!! lol
  10. I would go with a tournament pro g because it has an aluminum frame.
  11. I'm a Lews guy but if I saw a high end Quantum at a deal I may take a shot. If I bought from BP it's an easy return. I've never considered a Quantum.. I think Hackey uses them among others. Has to be a good reel. I think? I suppose the Zebco thing stigmatizes that reel.
  12. Wow, I'd be all over that fuel.. It's probably taxes. RI is wicked.
  13. I use 70-6 and 76-7 Abu Villian 2.0 and a Lews Cutom Lite Magnum Grass..
  14. I have two Team Diawa rods. A 6' and a 6'6". Both are split grip. Both MH. I use them for short casting duties with multiple baits. Great rods... "sleepers"
  15. What the hell is a mini lot? I have a group 29 and a Minn Kota Max. I've never had a day on the water when the battery went dry. Plus, I'm in heavy cover a lot. I have a Bullnose rudder on mine. Keeps weeds off the prop, steers better and helps keep the canoe in place on windy days when I'm not anchored.
  16. I use Maui Jims progressive lenes..
  17. Get the arkie for docks and wood, the punch jig for heavy cover.
  18. Do you work for Owner?
  19. I was using Fphlueger reels then made the move to Lews 2 years ago. I have two of the IKE power rods and two Villian 2.0s. The Villian rods are terrific. The IKE 70-5 is very versitale while The 74-6 is good for frogs and swim baits. The next rod I buy will be another Villian 2.0. I also have Lews and Diawa rods.
  20. Another rod to consider: Look around for a sale price Lews Custom Speed Stick. They offer a few rods that will get the job done for you.
  21. Plop.. This ?! Buy some Gambler Toads and Owner Double Hooks... Just kidding!! ?
  22. I'm big into toad fishing in cover. Mostly heavy cover. I lost two big bass this year using the Stanley 4. The last one was huge 10 or more. Both loses were at the boat. I bought some Owner Double 5 hooks. The have a wider gap, longer throat at they set perfectly and stay in. Also the points are spaced evenly so the rig well and travel thru just about anything. If your throwing toads I highly recommend the Owner Double Hook. They're worth the extra dollars.
