  1. I need a rod for toads. I'm working at it 4 days a week. I'm getting all kinds of explosions and loving it. I've been using my 7' custom Speed Stick Magnum One which has proved fine for 3/4 oz frogs but it's just to stiff for toads. (I favor the Gambler Cane Toad over three others I've tried). I'm thinking a 7' - 7'6" MH Medium Action? All suggestions appreciated.
  2. Just FYI, the 724 is not a broomstick at all. My 6' Avid MH is much stiffer than the Loomis. On another note; the 724 is a fantastic toad rod. I spoke to a G Loomis rep before I bought the rod. If the OP is serious about buying he should call and ask questions.
  3. Oops, Mike.. Not Dave. Call him whatever you want, but call him.
  4. I Bought a 6' CR724 IMX. It's a very light and sensitive rod with a great tip and plenty of back bone. The rod is extremely versatile. I'd like to get a longer version. If you're interested in buying at a deal let me know. I bought it 4 weeks ago.
  5. Mike at DVT and I had talked sometime back about a custom. I decided not to have him build me a rod because I found a rod that was exactly what I needed. However; my next rod will be a custom. Why; I can choose the blank, reel seat, length of grip, grip material, guides and colors. It doesn't get any better than that. Mike builds with HXM blanks. I was able to see and hold one a month ago. What a fantastic blank that is. If I had to guess which factory rod it mirrored it would be a G Loomis at 400.00 + or -. I have 7 rods set up. I am completely satisfied with two of them. I'm happy with the other 5. I'm going 5 customs after I've sold them. Suggestion. Re-think the micro guides.
  6. You know that BB1 reel is fantastic for cranks. You don't need a Pro unless you have other plans for the reel.
  7. I don't think either company builds a poor quality handle. I suggest buying the one that meets your needs and go get a few lunkers
  8. I bought a 6' 4 series IMX a month ago. I would suggest taking John's advice. Nice rod.. Also, you may want to a look at a St Croix Avid Classic too. Mine constantly impresses me. I like it better than the IMX for jigging.
  9. Well said ... lol I love Junk bass... It's my wheel house. Going tomorrow.. I'll be in the junk for hours. Can't wait to get there. Aside from my jigs I found a bait I love using. It's the Gambler Cane Toad.. Give it a go if you get an opportunity. The 49er is a great color.
  10. I just looked on the Lews site at the new and improved BB1 Pro is not discontinued. Who the hell told you that?
  11. You can read the specs on the Lews site. The Pro offers a lot more than different brakes. I have a BB1 too. I use it solely for deep running cranks.
  12. If I see a rod I really like but it's EVA I'll buy it and have cork installed. I like a nice looking rod as much as anybody else but it has to feel right to me or I'll pass. I bought an IMX classic because it felt right.. 260 rod, not fancy at all. In fact the butt is an inexpensive black plastic that can be bought online for .99 cents.
  13. I like Power Pro and Sufix 832 65# in the junk. I'll tie on a 20# CX leader with 40# if I'm in pads over 3' of water or more.
  14. I'm surprised they decided to discontinue the Reel. Must not have sold well. Glad I have mine. I use it mostly for square bills.
  15. I'm going to get back into tournament fishing again. The bug has me.. I'll need a boat. I'm considering a new Lowe or a used Fiberglass that would have to be mint. I wouldn't consider anything less. I'll be fishing the North East.. Would you recommend the new Lowe Aluminum or a pre-owned glass boat? 18' should work for me. $15k + or -..........
  16. Good thread.. A local builder who just replaced a rod tip for me with larger diameter eye and I were just talking about this fiasco. According to him this change was brought on by none other than Kevin Van Dam. Rod builders jumped on the micro wagon because it would have us all replacing our rods. That's marketing.. I do not own a rod with micro guides. I saw the issues they would cause for me. I never liked them.
  17. I tie the FG now. The knot flows through the rod guides with ease. Once you learn to tie it well you won't look back.
  18. The Gambler toad it very durable. I had one hit that bit the legs off one after a boat load of casts in heavy junk. Another lasted at least 3 hours and four good catches.I haven't used a rage tail but I can vouch for the extreme durability of the Gambler.
  19. I had a blast with this toad Sunday. Check them out.. Right now they have a 35 count bag of the Florida O color for 9.99 and 5.00 for shipping. go to: www.gambler-bang.com
  20. Minn Kota shipped me the replacement motor. It should be here Friday.
  21. I' about to get my third Minn Kota Endura Max 55 in as many months. Massive failures, I'm selling it when it arrives and buying a Motor Guide. The service rep attitudes start to suck when they have to replace a third motor.
  22. What year is your Tracker? Model?
  23. I know where there's s Mint 14' Grizzly on a trailer with a foot controlled trolling motor, battery, Lowrance 4x and two pedestal seats for 2200.00 BP wants 4500 for the same boat. This one has been in the water about 10 hours. It's in Long Island NY. I almost went for it but it was just short of the layout options I want.
  24. I use a trailer for my canoe. I'm in or out of the water in minutes.
