  1. I bought a 55 variable Minn Kota.. Motor housing leaked and motor was destroyed. Minn Kota rep says its a rare occasion that a seal fails. I want a higher thrust. Motor, I'm going to sell the new one when it gets here and buy a 70#.
  2. I have some nice gear.. But I'll share this with you. I bought a Berkley Shock casting rod for versatility. 50 bucks at BP. I can say from experience it's one hell of a rod.
  3. Anybody using UV knot sense?
  4. I just tied a good FG.. For me the key was the leader and line direction. Tightened it down without issue. Made a few casts in the yard. No more knock Knock! Parties over!
  5. All my rods are cork and " there's nothing anybody can do about it" Quote from Dances with Wolves only he peed his pants! But I still have Eva on my mind..
  6. The Uni knot did a number on Magnum One rod my tip, it busted the ring out. Im dropping the rod off to a builder tomorrow. I'm going to have him install a one size larger tip. Hope to have it back Friday.
  7. I recently bought an IMX and an Avid. Both are excellent rods.. I also held the MHX blank that Mike at DVT uses to build custom rods. I swear it's a G Loomis blank. On a scale of 1-10 it's a 10. I think it was the 824 version. Great worm & jig blank that could easily be used for spinner baits around docks ect..
  8. Don't ignore the Abu Gacia SX.. It's a better reel than the ones mentioned. I highly recommend you look at one before you buy. Following ICast... They're a 150 reel but there are deals in eBay right now. I've seen them for 100. Good luck
  9. I'm having a local builder replace it. I want a top that can handle braid with a leader knot. I also want the eyelet a size larger. Any Fuji model suggestions? I want the best I can get.
  10. I'll try using more force. Thx..
  11. A few weeks ago one of my rods went overboard butt end first. Fortunately I was able to grab the blank before it went down 10 feet... When I got home I rinsed the reel with tap water then used pressurized air to dry it out and relubed it. Since then the reel cast better than ever.
  12. Which reel do you have now? I recommend the Lews Team Lite... Silver
  13. The eyelet on the tip of one of my rods popped out and broke yesterday. Can a new eyelet be installed or will the tip have to be replaced?
  14. I've just started to learn the FG knot. I can wind it alright. I'm having trouble getting the winds to slide down and tighten against each other. Once I become proficient I'll use it for all my leaders. For now I'll use the blood knot. I like it better than the United because it has tapered ends. I use the uni for hook ties.
  15. I don't use swim baits any where near that size. I fish lakes for Bass. I throw 6" at the most. I use my Lews Custom Speed Stick. It's the Magnum One 7'. What are you using?
  16. I'm into them too. I've done well with them with a 3.5" tube on them. I like the Strike King and Bass Pro Tournaments. I've been using Siebert and Strike King jigs.
  17. Hey Mike, I was wondering, How many people do you have in the shop doing the reel services? Why wouldn't you recommend the OP to send you his reel for a cleaning and inspection?
  18. Just sit it in your lap and tap on it. After it burps the gurgling will stop.
  19. Oh yeah, that's my Avid. You're entirely correct.
  20. You have many choices that's for sure. I opted for a Lews Magnum One. Lews also has some pretty slick new rods this year. You may want to give them a look too. I recently bought a G Loomis IMX and a St Croix Avid for working docks, tree's, shore line crap ect.. both fantastic rods.
  21. I've been working on tying the FG.. Slick knot.
  22. I like them better than split grips.. I do have three split grip rods that I like very much.
  23. I had a local builder install the cork grip and black butt for me. It's on my Lews Rod which was an EVA split grip. I do have an Avid though.. Love it.
